For those with Caller ID

We screen ALL calls. If I don't know who the caller is no way do I call back. I only call back those that I want to talk to. So of course that means someone trying to sell me something or DHs family never get a call back. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I called someone back once, just a few months ago. My phone was ringing at 5:50 AM and I figured it was DH's work and they needed him in early so I got up, located the phone and said Hello as nice as I could at 5:50 AM. CLICK! Hung up on me. I figured wrong number waited a minute to see if he'd try again but he didn't so I went back to bed.

Got the covers pulled up to my chin and started to snuggle with DH and RING! So now I JUMP out of bed to get the phone. Same dang thing, the idiot hung up again. So I called him back...big chicken wouldn't answer his phone. So I left him a nice little voice mail telling him that he was rude and people were trying to sleep and he's lucky he didn't wake my baby up. I told him that if he's going to be calling peoples houses at 5:50 AM that he needs to be smart enough to dial the correct number or not call at all. Then if he does misdial then he needs to apologize to the innocent party whom he just woke up! I then told him that if he called my house again I was going to call the police and tell them he was stalking me.

Ok, I wouldn't have called the police but its just so rude to hang up on people! Say you're sorry for crying out loud! Didn't mama teach you any manors?

If I don't recognize the number or name and they don't leave a message, I figure they've called a wrong number. I never pursue it.

No, I wouldn't call back someone who didn't leave a message, especially if it's someone I didn't know.

Colleen's situation is different and I have a time or two in a situation like that. I would if they kept calling and calling and hanging up, but that's maybe happened one time. In what I assume is a wrong number situation there's no way I would.

I should have added that in normal circumstances I do not call people back. I will even answer the phone sometimes for numbers that I don't know if they are local. Our phone number is one digit off from a nail salon and every now and then I'll get a call for the salon. I just tell the lady (always a lady, lol) that she misdialed by one number and I'm nice about it, heck I've misdialed before but I always apologize.

This is a little off topic but I really hate it when the wrong number calls you and says "Who's this?" I follow up with "You called me, who's this?!" Usually I get the oh sorry wrong number, but it goes back to the manors...do you have any? Some people should not be allowed to use a phone!

I always screen my calls, if I don't know the number, I don't answer. If they don't leave a message, I don't return calls. I have Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora on my answering machine, so if they don't know us, they usually don't leave a message!!! :rotfl2: Puzzles the heck out of those few telemarketers who still call!!!! :confused3

I check caller ID all the time - that is why we have it!

I also don't call back numbers that called unless there is a message.

My favorite is the time someone left a message on my machine - wrong number and it sounded like an important message. I called back to let them know they dialed wrong - they cussed at me for bothering them :confused3

I hate it when people do this! I was receptionist for 6 yrs here, every week someone calls "I saw this number on my caller id, do you know who called me?" We have 30 employees here, I have no idea who called you. So they waste my time trying to remeber who they know that may have called them. If they need you, they will call you back (or leave a message!)

I screen my calls and if it's the ILs and dh isn't around I hand the phone to one of the kids to answer it! Caller ID = perfect invention!

I never call back names/numbers I don't recognize. That's why we have an answering machine.

I always screen our calls. That's why we have Caller ID.

My husband STILL answers the phone when it says "UNKNOWN"! I cannot convince him to let it roll over to the machine - and then he doesn't know how to end the call. Stubborn, stubborn.

I had the most bizarre thing happen to me a few years back. The phone rang so I picked it up and said hello. The person then said "Who is this?" I replied, "Urm you phoned me, who are you?" She then got really snotty with me, and said that I had just called her, why was I calling and that she had used caller ID, so who's not so clever now. Completely astounded I had to tell her that I was alone in the house, had been all morning and no one had called her or anyone else for that matter from our number. It was so weird. She got a bit huffy, and insisted that our number was on her caller ID, I said that I was sorry but it had to be a mistake. We parted ways, and that was that. The only thing I can think was that she had noted down the number and had made an error in dialing it, I can't imagine the redial function on a phone would misdial, it was really very odd. Perhaps she liked to phone up random numbers and hassle them!!

I really loathe how people, when you answer the phone, ask you "who's this?" I always think that's kind of odd, don't you know who you've called?

DD's and I screen all calls. If we don't recognize the number, or if it's "unknown" then we don't answer. Dh answers because he wants to know who it is. I figure if they don't leave a message then it isn't important. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who won't answer the phone if the IL's call...and like a previous poster, if DH isn't here I hand it to the kids! My MIL is a nut and my FIL is her enabler :teeth:

If the phone rings, I answer it. Whether or not I recognize the name/number. I think caller ID is handy for knowing WHO is calling, but I don't use it for avoiding people. I figure hey, either I deal with them now, or I deal with them later. Might as well get it over with.

My mother doesn't have caller ID. So she screens her calls through the answering machine. It drives me CRAZY!!! :furious: EVERYTIME I call I have to talk to the answering machine: "Hi Mom, it's Kel. If you're there...." then she picks up: "Oh, hi honey...just wanted to make sure you're not selling something." :sad2:

Do we have the same mom? :rotfl:

At least our moms answer. I know someone (I take care of her DD), who never answers her phone. She always lets it go to the answering machine and doesn't usually pick up, even when they are home. I've quit calling, and I was just talking to a joint friend yesterday and she commented that she doesn't ever call this person. It's most than annoying, especially since they don't even return calls. I wait until she's at work and e-mail instead.

I do usually answer the phone, unless I suspect that it's a telemarketer. Even those I answer sometimes if I'm in the mood to deal with and we're not busy.

I always check the caller ID. IT really bugs me to not check it and speak to someone I didn't want to hear from. I still play nice though. :) A couple of weeks ago, our power blinked off and when it came back on none of our cordless phones would work, only the regular corded phone which doesn't have caller id. So for 2 days I answered the phone not knowing who was calling, hubby finally fixed the other phones, and I was so happy with the convenience of knowing who's calling before you answer. I never want to go back to the old "answer the phone and see who's calling, if it's for me, I'm not here" days. Now all I need is caller id that shows up on the TV screen. It would be easier to run to the TV than hunt for a phone, phones are often hard to find around here, at least the TVs are always in the same place. :)
