For those who rent out their points.......

Hi all...

I am a new DVC'er via resale at BCV. My contract came with 74 banked points that I probably won't be able to use before they expire. I'd like to offer them for rent, but I'm not sure the best way to do this. I read the FAQ's on the Rent/Trade board, but they are mainly geared to those who are looking to rent points, not those offering points to rent. (And of course, "Search" is down!)

Anyone care to offer advice on the best way to go? Is it better to book actual dates, then offer that....? Or is it better to just offer up points and let the renter decide on the dates? I'd love to hear how others do this...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Rent points rather than dates, and you will get many more offers. State clearly in your ad how much per point you want, and I would suggest no bargaining (ex: $10 per point firm). That's clear to the renter, and they can choose themselves whether or not to contact you at your price. I always make sure they agree to my terms before I contact MS for dates: $100 payment within 48 hours--I usePayPal--and then I set out how the remaining money is to be paid. You will know within 48 hours whether or not they were actually serious. If you don't receive the money, cancel the ressie. And I would be careful about renting points close to their check-in date, or transferring points without prior payment--you lose some control over those points.
