For those who plan to go to Universal for a day, when do you plan it?

My DH only agreed to go to Disney if we go to IOA... I hope his sour attitude changes when we are there and he enjoys Disney with me.

I was wondering if I should put IOA towards the beginning of the trip to get it out of the way? I was thinking he'll be happier to get that out of his system maybe? Or should I leave it for towards the end? Or does it not matter? I asked him and he said he didn't care.

No kids so no anxious kids wanting to see Mickey that we have to deal with...

Well, bear with me because this is my first time on the boards.

We went last year to Universal Studios and we did it our 1st full day. I guess for us if we did not care for it, we had something to look forward to. We did not go into Islands of Adventure. Universal was okay, but I think our family is too spoiled by Disney. Have a good time when you go.

We did our IOA at the very beginning - first whole day. I liked it better that way. Then we did not have to leave Disney again until we headed home.

I say hit Mk and IOA in the first couple days-

We made a point to hit MK on a day that Spectro Magic and Wishes would be running. This past trip SM only ran on Friday or Sunday so we scheduled around that.

I suggest asking about Universal on the Universal board here on the DIS. They can give you lots of great suggestions.

My fiance and I are planning on doing IOA the first full day we are there too. We just decided that getting it out of the way would make it easier to pick what days we wanted to go to the Disney Parks. Then we will not have to leave the resort until it is time to go home.

In December we split our parks too...

The first few days were spent at Universal with one side trip to DTD
and our last two days were spent at Disney.

My DH made the same "demand" on our trip a few weeks ago. There's so much to do at Disney, I never think we'll have enough time to go to Universal or IOA. We planned the UNiversal/IOA day on a day without an EMH, so on our trip it was Monday. It worked out really well. The day before was our first day in the parks, went to MK in the am and then MGM in the late afternoon, and stayed for Fantasmic and EMH. Crowds were low at that time, so we were able to do practically all of both parks. We did Universal and IOA in one day... I didn't really want to go, as I am a big disney fan, but I have to admit I really had a good time, I'm sure you will also!!!

were going the first day. if u go the last day you will be spoiled by the friendly cast memebers and disney atmosphere and wont be able to enjoy universal. this is what ive been told ne way.

If you are going to stay at Disney and go to a Universal park then I don't think it matters to much...If your husband is the type that will be o.k. with Disney and have something to look forward to i.e. universal then do it at the end of your trip....If you take him there first and he really likes it then Disney may really be a disappointment to him.

For our trip in June, we are staying on Disney property for 6 nights and then staying on Universal property for 2 nights. We will have front of the line access at Universal so we are doing it at the end of the trip so we don't get disappointed when we have to stand in line at Disney.

I'm glad to hear you did Universal/IOA in one day - we hope we can fit it in. We'll aim for IOA and if we get done by 3 or 4 we'll do Universal as well. Can I ask did you buy a 1-day 2 park ticket at the gate? Is the price about $84 (that's what I found online)? I just want to know so I can budget.

When did you go? We are going in May before Memorial day and schools let out when crowds are still suppose to be light. I hope it's not crowded. I'm really not much of a morning person so I don't know if I can get up and get to IOA by 8:30 in the morning to park - oh well Husband will be drivin I can sleep in the car I'm actually going to force myself to get up for AK's EMH morning !

This was the only way I could get ds 17 to go back to disney. The other 2 ds seem to be disney weary too. I tentatively have universal scheduled for April 26. I had to take into consideration when spectro, wishes, and mk late emh were etc. I only want to do one of the parks, the ds want to do both universal and ioa. I am cashing in our hilton points to get free tickets, so its only costing us food and the rental car for the day. I might have to pay extra if they go to both parks, I am still researching this one.

we always do universal on our trips to disney and we always go mid way into our stay imo it breaks up the trip . we do disney disney disney and then universal than more disney. have fun and dont worry universal is a great place my older ds would freak if we missed going there while at disney.

I agree with NYGrl . For our next trip, DBF asked to visit UO/IOA, so I made an effort to fit it in. Since our trip is 10 days long and we are staying on WDW property, our two days at UO/IOA will be mid-way. (We are going Thurs. through following Sat., so Mon and Tues will be Universal days). Truthfully, WDW was my first priority and we worked around those schedules. Also, we're going in Dec., which lessens some crowd-level considerations.

We are staying onsite at wdw for 10 days in May. I get two free 2 day IOA/universal tickets through work so we are planning to go there just one day and do both parks. We are doing it on the 3rd day of our trip.

When we've gone to USF/IOA it has been mid way through our Disney stay. It gives us a needed diversion for one day.

We usually do it mid way through our Disney trip too!!! Last summer, we were able to do both IOA & Universal in one day. And, we took a nice lunch break at Hard Rock Cafe!

We too normally put our Universal Days half way through our trip..depends on the length of the trip, sometimes it is one day sometimes it is two. If we have two days we start one day in each park and then park hop to the other mid day....
