I'm trying to understand how this works when you own at more than one resort. For instance: let's say your home resort is OKW with 200 points. You also own 75 points at VWL. You want to stay at VWL so you book your 75 points at the 11 month time period. But that doesn't cover a week. So here is where I'm confused. Do you book a week and say you'll pay cash for the remainder but then at 7 months call back and say you want to use your OKW points? Or do you just book what you can at 11 months and then call back at 7 months and hope you can add on more days? One other question, once you've banked your points do you have to wait until the next year to use them, or could you pull them out in a month for say, a spur of the moment trip? Thanks!

You only get the home resort advantage for the points you own at that resort.

You have several options. 1) Book what you can with the points (maybe borrowing or planning ahead and banking) and then hope you can book the rest at 7 months. 2) Book what you can at VWL and then book the remainder at OKW as a back up. When the 7 month window opens up at VWL, you can book and/or get on the wait list and cancel what you don't need at OKW. 3) Same idea....book a back-up at another area hotel and cancel once you are able to book at VWL.

Once points are banked or borrowed they cannot be changed again. Example: You have an April Use Year. You bank your April 2002 points. They can now be used for trips between April 2003 and March 2004. In June 2002, you decide you really need a DVC trip. You can't "unbank" those points but you can "borrow" from your April 2003 points. Say, you use 100 of your 200 point total for this July 2002 trip. In April 2003, you will have 100 points plus the 200 April 2002 points you banked -- a total of 300 points.

What could be done with the VWL points is to bank a year's points then use the banked, current and borrowed points the following year....so you'd have 225 VWL points to use that year and can book it with the 11 month window. This way you'd have that many points to use every third year.

To try to book using OKW points I'd get my VWL room for as long as possible with the VWL points at 11 months. Then I'd book the rest at OKW with the OKW points at 11 months. At 7 months I'd call back to try to switch the OKW reservation to VWL and then link the 2 reservations so you can stay in the same room. No guarantees that it will work out though.

Personally I don't like dealing with the whole 7mo thing...I bought where I want to stay. Probably the only time I'll try it is when we invite my dh's siblings to join us...I'll want all the space we can get so we'll probably try to go to OKW. We are trying to do the every 3rd year thing with our tiny VWL add on....it works to a degree, but gets weird when there are just one or two extra points..or we're one or two short. I'm not sure how it will all work out in the future.

As for banked points...once they're banked they can't be returned to the original use year. But you can still borrow from the following year for a spur of the moment trip...just not the banked points, which will then need to be used by the end of the use year they've been banked into or they'll expire. They can only be banked once.

I'm with Lesley. Life's short..........smell the coffee..........eat dessert first;) ;) ;) . I know that there are many who have points at various DVC resorts and keep excellent track of their usage with spreadsheets and the like. My mind is wayyyyyyyyyy tooooooooo simple for all of that. Our points are all at BWV, though we certainly have used them with the 7 month window at other DVC properties.
