15 yrs ago I took a backpack apart at the seams that my DD liked and used that for a pattern to make her a backpack that was totally cloth. No plastic lining etc.
I used a lightweight light colored demim. This can be thown in the washer and dryer and has been many times.
DD has used the backpack almost daily for 15 yrs it is still goin strong.
The big advantage to it being totally cloth and light colored is it is not near as hot to carry in the heat of summer.
