We usually use Dollar when renting a car and have always had great service. Alamo is providing a better rate this time. For those who have used both Dollar & Alamo, who seems to have quicker service and movement through the lines? I realize that time of day may impact your experiences but does one seem to get you in and out quicker than another? Thanks!

I prefer Dollar. Their CS has been exceptional and they are very quick. Join the Quick service membership and your counter visit will be even faster. Have fun!!

Dollar...

However, I have only used Alamo once. IT was a nightmare and I don't plan to give them a second chance...

Just used Dollar in Denver and have to say that I could not have been more impressed with their efficiency and service. For my trip in Nov. to WDW, I have an Alamo reservation because i prefer getting car at Car Care Center (plus their rate is a little lower right now than Dollar's) but I will change if i can get a great deal with Dollar. By the way, *********** membership helped us get our car quickly! Join!

My gut, and positive prior experiences, were telling me to stick with Dollar. I think I will. Thanks for sharing your opinions everyone!

Ditto, never again, I don't care if they are the cheapest.

We've used both several times. Alamo seems to have longer lines, they used to really push insurance but they haven't the last couple of times. We're using them again this November because they were a lot cheaper than anyone elese.

We have a reservation with Alamo and Dollar. Alamo is about $40 cheaper. And, I had planned on using the online check-in with Alamo. Will it really be that much of a problem to rent from Alamo? We've had good luck with National in the past at MCO (Emerald Club), and I figured since they are in together, it can't be that bad?

I'm curious what exactly makes a "nightmare" experience. I have rented cars at probaly 20 airports including in Europe and have never had what I would consider a nightmare. As long as there are cars I'm content. That being said obviously an EA rental is easier than the counter but I would, and have used just about all of them including the dreaded Payless with no issues.

There is little difference, I suppose, until something goes wrong. Some rental car companies, like Dollar, Avis and Hertz, make your problems their problems, or at least share the burden. Some rental car companies, like Alamo, make your problems even worse problems. In one instance, Alamon decided to make me miss my flight rather than providing assistance when their vehicle experienced a maintenance problem, threatening me that they'd surcharge me if I didn't return their car in working condition, while Hertz, in a very similar circumstance, rushed to pick me up and take me to the airport, and then dealt with all the problems with their vehicle themselves.
