Which non-signature restaurant on the dining plan is currently serving the best steak?

We are planning a trip in August. We have a reservation at Kona Cafe, but we are thinking about switching it to one of the following:

Captain's Grill
Le Cellier (lunch only)
Grand Floridian Cafe
Wolfgang Puck Cafe
Other (please post name of restaurant)

Thanks!

I voted for Kona. We love the teriyaki steak there. The chicken wings are a yummy appetizer too! We also dine at Le Cellier each trip, and it is great as well.

I voted 'other'. The strip steak at SSR's Turf Club was excellent!

As a steak lover.....Whispering Canyon Cafe delivers big time with their New York Strip.

Best 1 TS steak on property.

The steak at Kona is wonderful, a great pleasure. Believe it or not, my ds also had a very good steak at the coral reef- but i wouldn't go out of my way to eat tehre.

I have a friend who would totally agree with you on this. She ordered steak at each non-signature restaurant for ten days. She said that, hands-down, the strip at WCC was the best.

I can tell you I have been very disappointed with just about all the above restaurants at some point. Our Le Cellier steaks in Feb. were just awful. Our teriyaki steak at Kona was a cheap cut but good flavor. I had lamb (horrid) at Turf club so can't judge the steak...though my kids were not impressed by theirs...but that's been a couple of years. In May of last year all nine of our steaks were a disaster at GF cafe...both the rib eye and the strip. Truthfully, our best steak in Feb. was the BBQ one at the Wave. It wasn't earthshaking but it was good. Much, much better than our steak at Le Cellier which was like eating an over cooked roast beef.

Mama Melrose's has an awesome steak. I actually liked the steak there better than I did at my dinner the night prior at Artist Point. The sauce at Mama Melrose's was divine.

I voted for Le Cellier....both DH and I really love the Fillet with Mushroom Risotto.

I voted for "Other" Les Chefs de France.

BTW - Le Cellier is now Signature

The Wave also has a wonderful filet.

This information is really helpful! Thanks, everyone!

We used to love Kona (2002-2006), but it wasn't as good in 2008-2009. I heard Kona changed chefs about that time, so maybe that is why. Recently, I have seen some good reviews, so maybe it has improved?

From what I read here, I need to seriously consider Whispering Canyon Cafe. We love the Lodge, so it would be a joy to go there for a visit this trip. That one has moved to the top of my list.

The other one that I am curious about is the Turf Club Grill. The menu looks OUTSTANDING, but it appears the Disboard reviews are mixed. Bummer! I would love to find a place like that, that was more consistent. The menu has so many of my favorite appetizers, that I may give it a try anyway.

I may look into The Wave, too. We already have a reservation for Coral Reef on another night. I agree that the steak there is good, although I always order the Mahi Mahi.

Quick question for those who have had the steak at Whispering Canyon! Is it good for people who order their steaks rare? My brother-in-law is who I am trying to impress--and he likes his steak medium rare or even rare, if it is a good cut of meat. What do you think?

Thanks for all of the info, everyone! I appreciate it! :goodvibes

I voted Le Cellier...but it is a signature restaurant now..isn't it?;)

Technically it is not a signature restaurant, as it does not accept any Dining Plan (except Platinum) - Victoria and Albert's!

Don't worry! Le Cellier is a regular TS location for lunch. That means you can still get the wonderful mushroom filet for a single credit! But you have to book lunch instead of dinner. Dinner is overpriced anyway, everyone should book lunch instead ;)

Well in December we went to

Kona - I had the ginger crusted ribeye, dh had the terriyaki? We both liked the ribeye

Shulas - we both had the ribeye that was the special of the night, not on the menu. It was really $$. It was good.

LeCellier - I had dh filet. It was small but good.

Le Chefs De France - Dec. too - we both had the beef filet and it was very good.

I ate at Le Cellier, Wolfgang Puck and Chefs De France last year and surprisingly the filet with blue cheese at WP was superb and just edged the mushroom filet at Le Cellier.

Maybe I just got lucky but I'm not complaining.

We were there the end of February. Best steak was at Coral Reef! It was delicious and we were shocked. Also dined (and ordered steak) at LeCellier, Mama Melrose, Yachtsman and Kona. Second best was Mama Melrose.
