? for those who have granite countertops

While cutting on granite won't hurt the granite, you'll do a number on your knives! The best thing to cut on is either a wood or plastic cutting board. Good knives are too expensive to ruin on granite.

I'll second this... but then again, I am a person who uses my sharpening steel before I cut anything and sometimes in the middle of my slicing project.

I finally got a chance to take some pix of our blue pearl granite for you:

Here's the 'beveled' edge:

Here's the backsplash:

Here's the nook table we had made with the granite:

Here's the granite tiles we used for the fireplace - we also used these tiles for the flooring:

We have natural cherry wood flooring in the kitchen/family/dining area and it goes very well with the natural maple. You don't need to use the same exact color/type wood for both - the contrast is very pretty. Also, I'll probably get in major trouble for posting so many pix on the board, but I didn't think they would all fit into a pm. After you see these, I'll go ahead and edit the post to get rid of them. You'll be very happy with the granite.

Trish, your granite looks so pretty!

I especially like your table. My DH mentioned to me the other night that if I hate my tile topped table so much, we could have zodiaq, like our countertops put on it to replace the tile. I like the look of my table... I hate the grout.

Having seen yours, his suggestion has gone from a maybe, someday to a let's get some pricing.

How beautiful, trishy!! Thank you so very much for sharing!

I LOVE the table! Where do you go to have something made like that?

Wow...thank you for introducing me to google. First time I've visited there and I'm hooked. Have found tons of picures and I'm still in love with granite.

I went to the custom stone place yesterday to get more information and to actually see big slabs vs. small samples. I'm a believer in everything everyone of you said. She also mentioned that you only have to seal every 2-3 years. Wow...was I completely off base when I said 1-2 times a year. Still not real sure why people try to convince me to go with quartz vs. granite. I'm not listening! We are going with granite. Now we are considering going with a full backsplash with the granite. This can make me crazy! All the backsplashes I see (granite, tile) are so beautiful. I'm horrible at making decisions. This is not a cheap decision to make either so I better make sure it's the right one.

One other question regarding the edges. The lady last night told me that the price for a 1/2 bullnose and a bevel edge would be the same. What, in your opinion, is a better edge to go with for a kitchen?

Thanks for all the great help!

We have granite backsplashes as well as counters. It took the installers three tries to get it right though. They lost money since every time they made a mistake (wrong cut) they had to start with a brand new sheet of granite since no two are alike. We have the ogee edge and it is beautiful.

Thanks for liking the pix :p

A friend did them, as well as our kitchen/family room and nook. When we ordered the granite, we ordered extra slab for the table and 2 end tables - they cut it into smaller pieces for us. Sometimes you can get leftover pieces from broken slabs for cheap. Just let your granite guy know about it ahead of time. Any good word-working person could do it - it's basically building a table, then inserting the granite pieces and sealing it.
