Where do you stop? We usually drive straight through but coming home next time we might stop over? (coming home not going to WDW), we always have energy for the rtip down but might need a break driving coming back. Thanks

A lot of people will disagree, but we like South of the Boarder. Decent rooms, Choices to eat, and lots to do.

We live on Long Island......coming home to NY we usually stop in Virginia around Emporia. It is a little past half way (711miles from WDW) and leaves us with 500 miles the next day.

We stayed in Emporia last year on our way down to Myrtle Beach. We stayed at a Comfort Inn because we just wanted a clean cheap room to sleep and get on road early the next morning. Nothing fancy. We got it for $49 with my Entertainment Book. This included a Continential Breakfast-cereal, danish and fresh fruit. Was a cute little breakfast room. It was one exit south on RTE 95 compared to where the other Emporia hotels and restaurants were concentrated. But it was less than a five minute car ride. That 5 minutes saved us a lot of money room wise. Just thought I would share the info in case you stay in Emporia. Have fun!!!

Thanks, Emporia VA looks like a good choice.

We have stayed at that Comfort Inn also, Nice place and a Denny's on site. We've also stayed at the Best Western at the other exit.Another place we like if its off season is the Best Western at Kings Dominion (just above Richmond) Great prices when the park is closed.

When we take two days to drive to WDW we usually push hard the first day and make it an easy day upon arrival. We like to stop at Santee, SC which is about 100 miles north of the SC/GA border. There is a very nice Ramada Inn and a good Days Inn at this exit (exit 99 in SC on I-95). We have been making this area our stop on our trips to FL since the mid 70's. There is also a great Shoney's right across the street for Sunday morning breakfast or a good Cracker Barrel just down the road.

We take 95 and have driven straight through a couple of times, but stayed over on most trips. We did stay in a Comfort Inn one year which looked really nice from the outside, but the room was dirty and smelled like an ashtray which was really bad for my son's asthma. It was about 3 am so we stayed anyway - my husband slept for about 2 hours and then we left. The next trip we stayed at a Hampton Inn which was a little more money - $89 a night - but I always find the Hampton Inns to be clean so it was worth the money. We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Industrial Park Drive in NC which is right off of 95. I actually kept the receipt so that we know where to stay if we ever drive down again.

Emporia is a good choice. Another place with lots of hotels and restaurants is exit 173 in North Carolina (just south of the Virginia line). Sorry, I don't know the name of the town, but just the exit number.
