For those that say they don't shop at Walmart ever........

Well I can't say I've NEVER been to Walmart but I certainly don't go there more than 1-2x a year and that is usually enough to remind me why I don't go to Walmart.

:thumbsup2 Same here.

I'd go to several stores with that shopping list - most likely Target and Macy's.

I would have to pass two Targets to get to a Walmart. Add the fact that both my DS & DDIL work for Target, you bet I'm not going into Walmart. (Actually, my aversion to Walmarts started before they were hired by Target.)

We don't have grocery stores in the Targets or Walmarts around here. I'd go to a Bed, Bath & Beyond for some stuff, Safeway for groceries & Costco for everything they carry.

Usually target.

What bugs me though is that people have bumper stickers on their car against walmart, and what do I see in the backseat? A walmart bag.

Keep in mind sometimes appearances don't tell the whole story. I don't shop Walmart ever, for any reason, because of their business practices, but my inlaws don't share my opinions and often buy the kids things there. I even have a few of their reusable fabric shopping bags, because the local WM was giving them away on Earth Day and my MIL picked up a couple for me after DD told her how the bag I had in the stroller for grocery shopping tore.

I am NOT being snarky or judgmental at all but I cannot wrap my brain around why someone would drive out of the way or farther and spend twice as much on something to avoid going into Walmart?? I just don't understand it. My time and money are way too precious to me! I have been in some yucky Walmarts before but if it is gonna save me time and money I suck it up. Just my opinion. I am very fortunate that our closest Walmart is in a very nice neighborhood and is a very pleasant place to shop. Maybe I haven't been in some of the kinds of Walmarts you guys are talking about:scared1:

Why does it have to be all in 1 store? I don't get that.

I'm not one who downright refuses to shop at Walmart, I just make them my last resort. Hubby however shops there all the time, so they do get our $ in the end.

I do shop at Target, but normally only get what is on sale and I don't buy clothing at any of these stores. Video games are 99 times out of 100 marked down at Target MONTHS before Walmart even considers dropping the price. Really, unless it's a new release game, Walmart should be the last place one shops for games.

If I needed a blender, I'd probably check out Target, Macy's, Kohl's, etc... I'd say if you bought it on sale, all of the above would beat Walmart's everyday price (which will likely never be reduced in price at Walmart).

Pool chemicals are bought at our local pool supply company.

Staples has a lot of office supplies, but so do so many other stores, including your local grocery store. Again, if you wait till it's on sale, the price will beat Walmart. If you need it now and can't find it on sale, I would probably head to Walmart. I'm not out to hurt myself by refusing to shop there altogether.

As for grocery type items, I try to stock these items as they go on sale at our local grocery stores and these sales normally always beat Walmart's everyday low price. I downright refuse to buy and/or eat, Walmart's meats. Sorry, I don't need the dye.

I shop at mutiple stores. Office supplies I get from Staples, any general cleaning products I get from the grocery store, and I do most of my food shopping at Farmer's markets.

that's another good point- as far as pricing goes, sales elsewhere almost always beat Walmart's price.
I don't go out of my way to spend more- I just shop smarter

For me, it is a simple matter of not wanting to spend my money with a company who's corporate philosophy is in contradiction to my personal beliefs in so many ways. Yes, there are flaws with any company, but Walmart's business model is based on undermining something I believe very strongly in - local, community based economies - so I'm not interested in helping them profit. I don't mind spending a little more to support a local business, and if I am going to shop a "big box" store, I'll shop one that is at least somewhat more socially conscious/responsible than WM.

My town has 2 nice Super Walmarts, a Target and a Kmart. I go in Kmart about once a year. I go to Target too much and Walmart at least once a week. Ours are clean and the people are nice. You see all kinds of people shopping there but you see all kinds of people everywhere.
While I remember hearing about a business practice they had that bothered me, I am trying to think if there is more I do not know about--esp. since it seems like everyone here shops at Walmart. Maybe someone can fill me in--it might change my mind about shopping there.
Our Walmart has the same people working there for years and years so they must be pretty satisfied with it.

And OP, I am someone who doesn't like to shop so I do buy almost everything there--like paper, glue, a blender, etc. Speciality items though would come from somewhere else--like Target or better.

Consider yourself lucky.

The Target is actually closer if that helps any.

I am a firm believer in buying American whenever possible and shopping at local, family owned or otherwise small businesses. I work for a small business (office equipment sales & service) and it bothers me how many people assume that we do not carry what they need or that our prices are higher without ever actually finding out for themselves! Not to mention we actually support our products and are by far more knowledgeable on our products & services than any big box store I have ever come across.

I grew up in a manufacturing family and I married into one as well... buying American made products are very important to me :thumbsup2

I do go but it's about twice a year. I avoid walmart as much as possible. I get everything at the grocery store or super target. (for those I need clothes and bagels kind of trips LOL) I only buy sneakers at the mall or a shoe store so I make special trips for stuff like that.

When I lived in TX I went to walmart a lot. Didn't have much choice but it was a lot better than the one here!

For the person that can't understand it, you have a lucky walmart. Trust me! Mine is in the hood and sketchy people are in the parking lot and the majority of the people shopping (or heck even working there) belong on the people of walmart site. It's not clean, it's not nice.

W-M is 2 minutes away from my office, and 12 minutes away from my house. I would rather drive the 40 minutes to Target or Staples than set foot in W-M. To me, it's worth the added expense and time to drive that far. If it's something needed quickly, I'll go to the K-Mart that is about 1 minute further away from W-M, but they don't have much selection (will probably go out of business next year.) I might get things at the Kroger-affiliated grocery, but their prices are higher, although I would pay that before entering a W-M.

I NEVER go to W-M, as I don't agree with their business practices.

You do realize that Target & K Mart are no better, right? Wal Mart just gets picked apart because it's perceived as being more ruthless not really true, and is a bigger comapny.

well, i don't have much of a choice where i live. my local super wal-mart is nearby, clean, and the prices are lower than the ONE local grocery store we have left. our k-mart is all but closed down and we don't have a target. if i want to shop for groceries and other household necessities, i go to wal-mart. if i need clothes, shoes or accessories, i go to jcpenney or buy online.

you couldn't pay me to walk into Kmart...every time I would go its a mess and your lucky if 1 cashier is working.

I have to agree with that too. Every few months I seem to forget why I don't go there, and each time I leave saying "never let me go there again" to DH.
There are 4 within 15 minutes from me in different directions, and I've left ALL of them irritated because only ONE cashier is working. I give it 5-10 minutes, and end up leaving my stuff and walking out. I don't need anything that badly that I'll wait behind about 8 people, for what likely would be 20+ minutes!

I loathe Walmart. Luckily, the closest one is about 15 miles away so I never have to deliberate about whether to go there or not.

Target, Kroger, and Meijer are all within a mile or two of my home. Frankly, I try to avoid Meijer at all costs because it's just too crowded. If I have to go there, I'll try to go REALLY early in the morning.
