I'll be at SSR on NYE 07/08. Me, DH, DS(6), DS(2). Staying from 12/29 - 01/05.

Which section would you "request" at SSR. (Knowing it's only a "request") If you had to choose Congress Park or Grandstand?

That's always a tough question. We like CP and the view of DTD. We like it's proximity to the pool, DTD etc. I guess right now I would lean towards GS because it does have a themed pool and pool bar, depending on the building you can be just as close to the main pool and restaurants and it is the first bus stop. I like being able to get a seat and to get off first coming back. I would vote for GS.

I'm in complete agreement with vandy on this one.

We have been to SSR twice and have stayed in Congress Park on both occasions. The short walk to DTD, the quiet pool, and the view of DTD are all strong points for staying in CP.

That said, I'd like to experience Grandstand for the extra short walk to the Carriage House and High Rock Springs Pool, Artist's Palette, Turf Club and the themed Grandstand pool too.

With the age of your children and the time you will be going, I would definitely request Grandstand.

I would request the Springs. Last time we went down they were almost finished with that section. We stayed in Congress Park and you had to drive to the pool with 2 small kids. Springs is an easy walk across the street to the pool w/slide, kids play area, the Turf Club, Artist Palette, Carriage House and the boat to Down town Disney. We were going to say at SSR in May 08 and I requested the Springs. We have since moved the ressie to VWL.

Stayed

Congress Park 2x (1st time kids were 4 & 5) The walk wasnt bad, the view was incredible, we used the quiet pool alot!

Paddocks 1x The walk wasnt bad, it was a nice location, nice view, used the quiet pool alot. When we were assigned the paddock we were disappointed, but it turned out to be a nice location and enjoyed it :)

The grandstand area wasnt complete when we were there a year ago. Seeing the pictures on here, I would love to stay in that area too :)

I think the only area I dont want to stay in The Carousel :scared1:

I find we use the quiet pools alot, less crowded and quite :)

After much deliberation, I voted for Grandstand and then had to laugh when I saw it is a 50/50 split. I have stayed in both CP & GS and loved them both. I think with kids I would prefer GS for the cute themed pool area and the easy walk to the main buildings. Although I love the quiet pool, easy access to Downtown and the possibility of a great view at CP, I still think with kids the slightest bit of an edge goes to Grandstand. But either one will be fantastic, and to celebrate New Year's Eve there will be amazing!

We just stayed at SSR last weekend for three nights before moving over to OKW (where I am at this moment). I have to say the Grandstand was absolutely wonderful! My favorite section thus far (have also stayed in the Springs and the Paddock). To me what makes this section so nice is its the first to be picked up and dropped off on the bus route which was so nice. And its a very quick walk to the Springs.

The pool area of the GS is so fun, my kids had a ball there. And my husband and I were happy there was a pool bar!

Congress Park does look nice but unless the walk to DTD is your biggest criteria, I think the Grandstand is better.

I voted "Grandstand", but I've only stayed in The Springs.

I voted for "Grandstand" because I think it's closer to the main building, right?

There are 4 buildings in the Grandstand. 2 of which that are closer to the front entrance than to the main area. Still very nice views, location, but could be misleading if someone requested GS and didnt get the 2 closest bldgs and they wanted to be close to the main area.

I think those bldgs are no closer to the main area than the Carousel or Congress Parks 2 closest bldgs.

We enjoy SSR very much, and think it was very well done. We enjoy our morning walks there moreso than any other resort we have stayed at.

The awesome DTD views from Congress Park, trumps all for us, so I voted for the view. I also like the CP quiet pool, path to DTD and the Pavilion.

We've found no section to be no more than a 10 minute walk to AP.

I voted for the Grandstand section. We stayed in this section in August and it was a short walk (5 minutes) to the Carriage House but more importantly it is the first stop for pick up and drop off for Disney transportation. We've never been for New Years but I can only imagine the crowds are heavy. If you are not renting a car (?) then with the ages of your children you'd be assured a seat going to the parks and will be the first ones off the bus at the end of your day at the parks as well.

We're in the same boat. Going 12/30-1/2.

But our room has already been blocked since it is HA. (I have no idea where because they won't tell me.)

Our first thought was Grandstand since my dad and I will both have motorized vehicles but no car. I expect crowds will be beyond insane.

Then again, in Congress Park we'd be closer to the NYE party. If it's cold like it was last December, I'd appreciate the shorter walk.

As far as distance to AP, I don't think it matters much. I'm not planning on hitting any pools and CP is on my morning coffee walk anyway.

Now that I'd discovered the West End walkway, any of the front areas (Grandstand, Springs, Congress Park) is equally accessible to DTD. But I've stayed in Grandstand and Springs. Would be nice to try something new.

Stayed at CP this past NYE and the view of the fireworks at DTD was fabulous!! Plus the added bonus of the party being right outside our room!! And isn't walking what you do all day at the parks anyway...walking to the main pool isn't a big deal. Have fun:banana:

I really think you can't go wrong either way. But since you have children I would try for the Grandstand. They will absolutely love the themed pool.

Agree 100%. I have stayed in both and would recommend GS for this exact reason.
