? for those that bought resale and called for member #

Did you try calling Member Admin and asking for them? I never receive those things in the mail when I bought a second UY last spring.
Yep...that's what kicked off this thread. I didn't think getting those numbers would be hard after having my member number. Apparently it can take a couple days after your member number is created before those numbers are in the system. :confused3

Sorry, got confused. I was pretty sure member ID and online stuff were created at the same time. And then points are loaded later. I'd call back regularly until you get someone nice.

That's my plan...I called again this afternoon and the person was much nicer. She said to call back tomorrow and didn't say anything about having to wait for the mail.

Well, day 12 since deed recorded and still nothing. :( Oh well, here's to tomorrow! :worship:
Fingers crossed for you!

My contract was recorded on March 9th and I was able to call Member Services option #3 (accounting) and ask for my member #. It took a few minutes and I was able to get it. It took about 2 weeks from the time it was at the OCcomptrollers site until it was available when I called DVC. I was then able to call Member services option #1 and get my PIN. The woman from accounting told me to request a membership card to be sent to my home when I called to get my PIN.

I too called again this afternoon and the lady I had said she could not see it, but the guy this morning could??? If they are going to make you wait for it in the mail then that is fine, but don't have some people able to get it over the phone and others not....it is very frustrating. They need to be consistent. Rant over, I will call again tomorrow...

That's good to know about the card. I assumed it was automatically mailed.

I agree. I think that's why people call so many times...you get a different answer depending on who you talk to. It is very frustrating.

Yeah, that CM must be having a bad day. We closed last July, after five business days of calling my husband called DVC accounting, since I read they are "friendlier". With in 10 mins, we had our member number, the access code to go online, and they banked the 2013 points that we're going to expire in a few weeks since we have an Aug use year. You have some patience waiting this long! Plus the packet that came in the mail took like forever, I would keep calling till you get what you want. :)

We bought resale and I have talked with member services several times since regarding a couple of upcoming vacations (adding magical express, changing dates/hotel, booking a cash room with member discount, etc) and everyone I have talked to has been friendly and treated me well so I don't think there is any stigma/second class citizen worry. Obviously they know you bought resale because they have to have a way to track if the points are eligible for non DVC bookings (other than rci exchange) since they no longer allow that on resale contracts.

I wonder if because of forums like disboards it is becoming more common for people to call rather than waiting for the info in the mail and they are starting to enforce not giving out the info? I know our broker and title company when we closed both emailed us info explaining that Disney would mail us all our contract info and once we received it in the mail we could go online or call to book-it was only because of here that I knew we could call to get it-if there are lots of resale buyers calling every day and it is increasing phone wait times significantly I could see Disney putting an end to it (since it never was policy to give it out anyway). Anyway just want to say that once you have all your login info I don't think you have to worry about being treated differently (other than the known resale point restrictions)

The policy is that they will mail you the info but they receive so many phone calls that they give in and spend time on the phone trying to look things up. Ironically, since they are on the phone, they aren't processing the new accounts so the wait for new accounts to get set up is even longer.

MS doesn't really care if members bought direct or through resale. Management and DVD, the sales arm of the DVC really cares. One guide told me that resales take food off of his families table. I expect additional changes will be made to deter resales.

:earsboy: Bill

Just a couple of points for clarity:
  1. Everyone calling for their member number purchased resale. Direct purchasers get their ID and online access from their guide when they sign the papers
  2. DVC doesn't care if you purchased resale. DVC is supported by maintenance fees from members; they don't get any money from sales. DVD cares, and they control the "added benefits" that resale buyers don't get
  3. There can be a delay between the membership being created and the points loaded to the account. Some CM's won't give out the membership or online information because it just causes more trouble when someone logs in and they see 0 points available. Just call back the next day.

We are already members (first purchase was direct) and about to close on our first resale add-on, same resort and same UY. Since we already have a member number and on-line access, and this contact will be titled/deeded exactly the same as our first purchase.....should we just be waiting for the additional points to show up??? Does anyone have a sense if this process (having points available to use after closing) is quicker for those who are current members vs. new members who need more initial start-up? TIA

It's about the same. Someone internally has to switch the contract numbers over to your membership and then load the points. When we did that, I just kept logging on to see if the points are there rather than calling. :goodvibes

Just wanted to post an update. I called again this morning and talked to a super nice man who gave me my club ID and activation code and even had me try to log in while on the phone to make sure everything was working. He also spent time talking to me about being a new member and services available if I have any questions. So it was a very positive experience and now I am able to log in and book. Let the fun begin!

Congrats! Did you talk to Member Services or Member Admin?

I called today to try and get my member #. It's been 7 days since the deed showed on the comptroller site. Member Accounting said that it showed sale activity on the contract but hadn't been switched to my name, to call back in two days. Fingers crossed!

I also closed on 3/6. Got the letter on 3/20 with my member number. Called member services and they gave me the number and activation code to log in online. Even sat with me while I did it, but NO POINTS have been loaded. Got my membership cards and points charts today. STILL no points loaded as of today. I can see that it shows our home resort and how many points our contract is, but not able to use any of them. Is this normal?!?!?

Hope you have better luck than I have ours showed up on March 11th and I have called everyday since. Some say they can see it and call back in 2 days, one sweet lady even gave me our new contract number....but still no member number. The lady I spoke to yesterday said we should have our letter next week.

Still no luck and the 7mo window is fast approaching. :sad1:
