For those of you who use Coolers in the Hotels...

I brought a folding one I got at Walmart for about $5. I brought it right back home unopened when I found my room had a frig! My pledge this year is to not overpack... We'll see.

Prior to ME we used a towncar service with a grocery stop and just purchased a cheap styrafoam cooler at the grocery store.

The last two trips we have had a mini fridge - AKL and Poly. IIRC all but the values have comp fridges now.

According to rumours the values are all getting fridges gradually over the next 12 months

IF you are driving take one in the car. If you are flying you could just ask the hotel if they have one befoe you go off and buy one. Also you could go to the local store and buy one under 10 bucks that you can just throw away before you go home..

I too take a small collapsable one from Walmart. This way it fits under the stroller and we always have cold juice bags and water. The CM's will fill up the cooler with ice- free- if you stop at one of the little carts and ask. It saves us a ton of money.

it depends, i once bought one at the dollar store there and threw it out, next time i am going to get the one that looks like luggage and on wheels, i will pack it with clothes, then un pack it and fill with ice, it is insulated but looks like a piece of luggage.

At those times when we combine a beach trip with parks, we bring a hardside from home, we use it as checked baggage for the flight, with beach towels and extra shoes, etc. For short park-only trips, we carry a softside cooler that also comes from home, it's small, so if we need more space we pick up a styrofoam one from a convenience store as well.

He couldnt care less about the fact that he has to lug it around (up to the room etc) He must have this thing on any vacation! in it, he puts ice, beer, sodas, and water.

The first trip waaay back in '93, Dopey filled the thing before we got there, and had a hell of a time getting it up to the room :rotfl: :rotfl2:

The second time he learned the second golden rule about his buddy, Coleman~
Buy bagged ice at a local market when you arrive DO NOT expect to get enough ice to fill that big red beastie from the sad little ice machine in the hotel :rolleyes1

I love my DH very much, but his obsession w/ his Coleman on trips just makes me giggle :teeth:

Sweetness, my hubby had a romance going on with our big old red and white Coleman too, until I 'forgot' to clean it out after one camping trip... Didn't know spoiled food could smell sooooooooo bad... :rotfl:

I made him get a new cooler, one that fit between the center seat and the sliding door of our minivan - and it had to be tall enough for a quart of milk to stand up in it. It kept him busy, all that cooler-shopping before one of our trips!

If you plan on having a lot of perishables in the room, bring a cooler, even if you have a fridge in the room. The one we had at the Beach CLub was so tiny that we barely got four bottles of water in there, along with a bit of fruit left over from breakfast.

We have a soft side cooler on wheels that kind of looks like a piece of luggage. We packed it full of non-perishable snacks (cereal, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc.) on the way down which worked well. Was nice to have that bit of extra room to keep things cold.
