Do you walk for a particular distance (ie. 3 miles/day) or for a set time (ie. 45 minutes/day)?

I usually do 40 minutes. I'd love to do more, but at this point, it's all I can fit into the schedule.

I don't walk for exercise but do walk a 3.2 mile loop every day after work (my dog is hard to live with otherwise ;) ). My Mom usually goes with me and it's her exercise for the day. We like to see how fast we can do it in some days without jogging or anything like that (it varies from 45 minutes to an hour).

Heh, I walk to the tractor sign and back  When I'm unable to go to the gym and use the elliptical, I'll walk about a total of three miles round-trip. I'm one of those that has an issue with structure, at least with my health ;)

Hey, 40 minutes is nothing to sneeze at. I currently become bored out of my mind after about 6 minutes on the treadmill and come up with all types of excuses to quit.

I take my dog for a mile walk every day and then when the weather cooperates I walk the boardwalk, one of the perks of living by the beach, which is 4 miles total.

I always go for a certain length. I do 2 1/2 miles, twice a day. If I'd tell myself that I have to walk for a certain amount of time; I'm sure I'd skimp out on the walk, and just not go as fast.

I walk a set distance, the loop around the green is 1.6 miles so I try to do that twice if I have enough time. I do keep track of my time though. I like seeing my time get quicker.

i've been walking 30 minutes a day for the past couple of weeks, but i have no cartilage left in my knees, and the walking has been really hard on my poor, uncushioned joints, so it's back to the recumbent bike for me.

I do a combo of time/cardio level and distance...they all kinda just fall in together. I walk on the treadmill so I wear a cardio monitor to keep track of my hear rate, so I know I am getting a workout, you know? I change up the incline level, and the rate of speed. I shoot for at least 1.5-2 miles, and I try to increase my distance covered in a set time..like a mile in x amount of minutes.

I like the idea of making myself go a certain distance. That way if I'm not really in the mood to be on the treadmill forever, I can run part of the way to make it go faster.

Right now all i can do is 30 mins of walking but hopefully the more i walk the more my body gets used to it and i can push myself to do more. For me doing exercise or simply walking my dog around the neighborhood helps me release stress of the daily life

I walk to exercise about an hour a day.

I walk every day - POWER WALK! I go for an hour +! I wear a pedometer and record my steps and w/o in a journal. Yesterday, I actually did more of a power JOG and was back home in LESS time than usual and had gone 500 steps MORE!! :yay:

It also depends, there may be a day that I can only get 30 minutes in, fine I will do it BUT majority of my w/o's are not less than 60 minutes.

Recent medical reports state that women need 60 minutes of walking A DAY to MAINTAIN their weight.

I do 40 min also. I go to school early and use the track. I only do it three times a week the other two days I walk 20 min and then do some weight training for 20 min on the machines. I found that you need to break it up or it gets to be ineffective because your body builds a tolerence for it.

For right now, I am walking on my lunch break for a half hour, sometimes only 20 minutes. But I always walk as far as I can for at least a half hour then come back relax and eat a good healthy lunch. I try to bring my own but sometimes I can't so I try and do subway.

I walk at least 40 min mid day and also try to take my dogs out in th evening for another 40 min.

We try to walk as a family every day. We have a couple of routes one is 2.8 miles the other is 3.2. They both have lots of hills and I "get" to push my 30lb DD in her stroller so it turns into quite the workout! One thing that helps is DH times us so that we can make sure we maintain consistant pace or improve day to day.
