OMG.......Just priced it to see how much it would be...holy cow they are expensive!!!!! 698.30 for two round tip tickets!!! Lowest I got was 353.40 @ AirTran Airways.
I'm lucky because Midway is one of ATA's hubs, and their Chicago to Orlando prices are VERY competitive. That's one of the advantages of living in this particular market. If they go out of business, I imagine that will drive the fares here up to ridiculous levels, since the only low cost carrier will be SW.

Hi all! Thanks again for your replies. Unfortunately, concessions and the military contracts aren't going to help much. The planes are full of people but they simply are not charging enough for the tickets to cover their costs. It is costing them money to operate right now. They cannot raise the fares and still be able to compete with SW and also show up on websites like Travelocity that look for the lowest fares.
The rumor now is that America West is going to merge with ATA and the ATA 737's and pilots will go to SW.
Who know's at this point. The company is not releasing any information.
We heard that rumor too...personally, I would rather pay a little more and keep ATA around. Even if SW was a little cheaper, it's worth a premium to me to have an assigned seat. Of course, I have about a bazillion points in the frequent flyer program too. My husband heard the rumor about America West...we'll see. Good luck to your husband!

PS: Just flew tonight on an OLD 752. I think it was the same one we flew last weekend. Sure makes we realize how nice ATA's newer planes are.
