For those of us watching hurricane Frances...

Schools closed for Broward and Dade County for Thur and Fri.
I really like channel 6 the best and don't get me started on channel 7 the doom and gloom station at least they don't have Rick Sanchez any more.

Any update on your schools, Rita? I was at SchoolNotes.com to check for DS's school he attended when we lived there to see what's up. They have a posting that they follow Palm Beach County public schools and they will be closed Thursday and Friday.

My mom is there... and my brother (Orlando, near Windemere) She has been working so much mandatory overtime that she hasn't even had a chance to pack up her keepsakes or buy supplies. She is riding it out. I was lecturing her tonight to go get stuff. I am afraid there will be nothing left =(

Im going to light a fire under my brother tomorrow and MAKE him go do it while she's working.

I hate that I likely won't be able to check on her, since the phones will likely go down and she has no cell phone. =(

Just sending out prayers for all of you out there. I hope none of you get hit by this. Just so hard to imagine so soon after the last one.

They really have no clue, in fact the 5AM advisory basically said to not pay attention to the projected track, because a slight change could cause great impacts in other areas. They also moved initial landfall south. I had a feeling this might start happening. I was planning on Ft. Lauderdale but nope not now, still too uncertain. I'm sticking with my ressies at WDW. I know they will do their best to take care of us. Oh and prayers that DH will be able to get out of work tomorrow so he can come with me.

This storm is scary, stay safe everyone.

Talk to MIL last night. Looks like they may be hit with the eye. She is being evaculated today. Don't know why she choose to stay in Florida this summer, I know it gets more difficult to travel with age. Sure wish she was here instead of there.

The girls are leaving on the 30th of this month to get her for the holidays. DH and I maybe going sooner then expected. She seems calm, I'm the one who's a wreak.

It wonderful to have property on the beach, but you wonder if it will be there tomorrow.

Stay safe, do not try and ride this one out.

My husband is in the military and he told me if they order an evacuation he will have to stay! So, that means me, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 bird will hve to leave by ourselves!
Since I'm on GA's coast I am praying we won't have to, but I like to stay alert just in case.

Yes I have heard that taping windows is worthless too. It is really not to makle them stronger. It is to help prevent as much shards of glass as possible for coming in at you.

I am also going to photograph the house everywhere inside and out for before pictures.

Ohhh I need to do some outside pictures, I did all my inside ones yesterday morning.

Thinking of everyone in FL (especially our DIS'ers....and our many relatives). STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

They just called for a mandatory evac of plan A areas and mobile homes starting at 2 pm today in Broward County. They are concerned because this thing keeps sliding south. From what I heard they are now projecting Lake Okechobee.

Im still getting things ready and packing. Dh had to go to work and our shutters are not down yet. We are bugging out to the west coast so this has to get done before we leave.

You know what makes me NUTS though. NO ONE in my neighborhood has bothered to put their shutters down or board up and NO ONE is out doing it this morning either!! I really fear for this neighborhood.

The schools are closed today and tomorrow. Thankfully, DH is home today and tomorrow, so we can start putting up the shutters real soon. Many in our neighborhood already have theirs shutters/plywood up. The part that I hate the most about the preparations is putting away trash cans, patio furniture, plants, grill, etc.

My family lives in Dade county and they keep asking us to come down. I think our house will be fine, I really don't want to subject my kids to the fear and panic if things get real scary during the storm. We are going to keep an eye on Frances, prepare the house and then we may head down to Miami later today. We are not sure yet.

I'll repeat what I posted on another Frances thread:

State emergency management is having a press conference on TV right now and they are stressing that people need to plan their evacuation based on finding the CLOSEST safe place they can. They are stressing that with the inexact nature of these storms, and this one in particular, that trying to evacuate with the goal of taking yourself completely out of the storm's path is impossible to do.

They are repeating this many times. Go TENS of miles to safety, not HUNDREDS of miles.

Stay safe, you guys! I can't believe that another hurricane is heading your way! Be careful!:D

Remember the 3 little pig..........I'll huff and puff and blow your house down, well that's my house and Frances is the BIG BAD WOLF!!!! I work in a hospital and have to go in for the during so they have the before group at work now and I will need to go in sometime after the Hurrican Warning goes into effect.
My clothes are all packed, pictures are off the walls and put in plastic bags. Cars all have gas was up at 6am to the gas station this morning, visited the atm also in case of power lose. Have decided on what scrapbooking supplies and albums I will be taking in my van. Hope the hospital garage will be safe since all most my whole life will be in the van. Sending my Dh and son's off to a GF that lives west of us in a house built since Andrew blew into S.FL all those years ago. My 13 yo was only 1 yo when that happen.
There already talking about some people selling sheets of plywood for $50----price gouging (?sp) I only they can sleep at night. It just isn't fair to take advantage of people during this time.
Sending lots of prayers and PD for anyone in Frances path.

I just talked to a coworker in our Orlando office (downtown). They are awaiting a decision from management on if they will close early today & all day tomorrow. She said she heard most businesses are closing early today. She said most gas stations are already out of gas. She was able to do some shopping last night. She is really worried, she's cleared out a closet in her home (it's only 3 years old so it would have been built to post Andrew standards). She is also worried about 2 sons in Palm Beach. A guy I work with has a daughter at the U of Miami that he's try to get out.

Take care everyone!

Just hoping everyone in Frances' path stays safe.

It's just awful this is happening so soon after Charlie.

I just heard they are completely evacuating Cape Canaveral and Patrick Air Force Base. They said they have never completely evacuated before. They usually leave a skeleton crew. Not this time, everyone is being evacuated. That puts 11,000 people on the road.

Well we are getting ready to take off later today when the evacuation order goes into effect. DH, DD5, 2 cats, 2 birds and a fish will all be traveling today. My Dd sees it as an adventure so we are going with that. Good luck everyone!
