THIRTEEN'S 18TH ANNUAL OUT! FESTIVAL CELEBRATES LGBT PRIDE MONTH IN JUNE WITH PROGRAMS FOCUSING ON WOMEN IN THE MOVEMENT

LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender) Pride is celebrated throughout the United States and around the world. This year, Thirteen's annual OUT! festival marking LGBT Pride offers a special focus on women in the movement - from lesbians fighting for the right to be mothers and church leaders to young female filmmakers trying to make their way in a world of traditional lifestyles and prejudices. The stories these and other programs tell take place in New York, San Francisco, Laramie, Wyoming, and many other locales. Thirteen's 18th annual OUT! Program festival runs from Friday, June 15 through Wednesday, June 27 on Thirteen.

Program Guide:

Friday, June 15

10:30-11 p.m.: STRAIGHT WHITE MEN AND ME - Asian American lesbian filmmaker Antonia Kao goes inside the world of straight white men to explore gender stereotypes through revealing interviews with a former Marine, a musician obsessed with naked women, and a socially conservative ice hockey player, among others. (Premiere).

Sunday, June 17

10:30-11:30 p.m.: LARAMIE: Inside Out - Lesbian filmmaker Beverly Seckinger returns home to Laramie, Wyoming, to investigate the impact of the 1998 murder of college student Matthew Shepard. Seckinger encounters individuals who are suddenly moved to speak out and take action against homophobia, gay-bashing and hate crimes. This is also a personal journey for Seckinger as she confronts her own closeted adolescence. (Premiere)

Tuesday, June 19

1-2:30 a.m.: AMERICAN MASTERS: The Education of Gore Vidal - Gore Vidal was raised to be a politician but, in his own words, born to be a writer. Winner of a 2004 CINE Golden Eagle Award, this profile of the provocative author and critic explores Vidal's life and career through his many novels, plays, screenplays, essays, and memoir. (Encore).

Wednesday, June 20

10-11 p.m.: MOM'S APPLE PIE: The Heart of the Lesbian Mothers' Custody Movement - This documentary examines the horror and heartbreak of the lesbian custody movement in the 1970s, when lesbian mothers struggled for the right to raise their children. Interviews with five lesbian mothers and their four children make for an insightful and emotional testimonial. (Premiere) (FB: Tuesday, June 26 at 1:30 a.m.)

12:30-1:30 a.m.: BEING TRISTAN: A Tenor's Story - Beautiful music, quirky personalities and the sometimes hilarious clashes of cultures drive this real-life drama, as tenor Marc Deaton and a crew from New York bring Wagner's Tristan und Isolde for the first time ever to Bulgaria. (Encore).

Thursday, June 21

10-11 p.m.: IN THE LIFE: Voices of Pride - Hosted by former NBA player John Amaechi, IN THE LIFE introduces a woman who was denied infertility care by her doctor, claiming a religious objection to treating lesbians, a feature on playwright Eve Ensler, creator of The ****** Monologues, comedian and activist Kate Clinton, and Pedro Ruiz, a principal dancer in the New York-based Ballet Hispanico. (Premiere) (FB: Wednesday, June 27 at 1 a.m.)

12:30-2 a.m.: INDEPENDENT LENS: Brother to Brother - After being rejected by his family, Perry (Anthony Mackie), a struggling young artist, befriends an elderly stranger - Bruce Nugent (Roger Robinson), the black gay writer who co-founded the revolutionary journal Fire! Through Bruce's memories, Perry discovers the legacies of the gay and lesbian subcultures within the Harlem Renaissance. (Encore)

Sunday, June 24

10:30-11:30 p.m.: THIS OBEDIENCE - The story of Anita C. Hill, who battled the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the third largest Christian denomination in the United States, to become a pastor in spite of the Church's rules against "non-celebate" gays and lesbians in the clergy. In an act of "ecclesiastical disobedience," a small Midwestern congregation ordains her, setting off a series of historic and dramatic events centering around one of the most contentious issues of our time: the relationship between homosexuality and organized religion. (Premiere)

Tuesday, June 26

1-1:30 a.m.: QUEER SPAWN - Over 10 million people have gay or lesbian parents in the United States, a number greater than the entire population of New York City. How does their parents' sexual orientation affect the lives of these kids? From New York to Texas, several teens and their parents candidly share their insights and experiences. (Encore).

1:30-2:30 a.m.: MOM'S APPLE PIE: The Heart of the Lesbian Mothers' Custody Movement - See Wednesday, June 20 at 10 p.m.

Wednesday, June 27

10:30-11:30 p.m.: WHY WE SING! - This documentary traces recent gay and transgender rights struggles while showing the transformative power of gay, lesbian and transgender choral music - how it uplifts, inspires and unites. In interviews and song, singers tell and show why they sing: for justice, equality, tolerance, community, and pure joy. It traces recent gay and transgender rights struggles in America, while showing how singers and music lovers from around the globe have been moved to change their worlds through song. (Premiere).
