I've been thinking about asking this for awhile...

For those of you who have PS for both meals, what are you telling your DD's (or DS's) about the duplicate characters in the meals?

Unlike the duplicate Mickey's and Minnie's where they look EXACTLY the same, my 6 year old DD will definitely notice the difference in their faces...

I was thinking of saying that only one is real and the other is her stand in since she can't be at both places at once.

I've said this for the duplicate Ariel and Belle from the shows at MGM so she believes the 'real' Ariel and Belle are at MK and the stand-ins are doing the shows. I guess I can do this for the breakfast too...

What do you all do? Or am I the only one with this problem?

That is the reason we decided to do only one. Our four year old wanted to know how Tigger got from MK to AK so fast......AND Ariel sure looked different (she must be sick). At six she will know for sure and I want to keep the magic as long as possible, this may be the last year she truly "believes".

I actually believe DEEP down that my 6 year old knows what's 'really' up but goes along for whatever reason...but I also have a 3 year old to worry about and I don't want any of us ruining it for her.

I would be happy to do one but my 6 year old knew I had both and didn't want me to cancel either! She's so excited and wants to wear her Princess dress (belle) to both!

I was just curious as to how others handle the duplicate characters. There are so many situations where there's duplicate characters besides the character meals that I'd be interested to know how you all handle it...

I do the same thing with Santa; only one is real and the rest are his helpers. Then she tries to guess which Santa we saw in the various places (wdw, mall, parade etc...) is the 'real' one! It's so cute to hear why she chose which one is the real one!

Keep your answers coming, please!;)

My DS knows it hurts my feelings if he says that those are not the real characters in the costumes LOL. He thinks the real ones are only in the movies! We just did both and all were just as excited the second time around;)

I cancelled the one in Epcot when I was successful getting the MK one. I just didn't want to do two character breakfasts with basicly the same characters. DGD doesn't want to know everything ahead of time, she says she wants to be surprised. (Of course this makes me what to come up with even more surprises...smart kid.) We ate at the castle last year and after I got the castle breakfast PS I did tell her we were going to eat breakfast there again....she was happy, but told me not to tell her anything else.

jennymouse,

I was only going to do one but I'm so curious as to what the new one is like and I LOVED CRT when we were lucky enough to do it a couple of years ago so I'll admit it, it's not just my DD who wants to do both, it's me too!!!!

If I'm lucky enough to do either one next year, I'll only do one, I promise!

I was going to surprise her with the "new" one but I'm bad! Couldn't contain my joy with either PS.

She will be surprised, though, with the Luau! Haven't told her that one yet! She tells me now that Lilo and Stitch is her favorite Disney movie and that it would be great to go to Hawaii and great to do the Luau at the Poly so I booked it but I haven't told her! Let's hope I can control myself with that secret!

My first trip was in 1976, I was 7 (yes, that makes me 34 now). I remember seeing characters and telling my parents "I know they are just people in costumes, but Mickey is REAL."
I am sure that if your girls want to believe, they will!

I need to edit this post because of a deleted post before my post by Pollyana saying she thought I was hogging PS's on hard-to-get character meals... I guess since hardly anyone agreed with her, she couldn't stand by her post (and opinion) and deleted it here and also the one she started over in the debate board now called "*"....

Excuse me, but I'm only doing both THIS year. I probably won't do both in one trip again, and probably won't have that kind of luck again! But it's my family's choice. I know several other people have posted here that they are doing both so that is why I asked my question.

I booked the new one first in case I didn't get the CRT (like most people have done), and also to check it out; I was excited to try a new character meal. I told my family about it and they were excited too.

Then I tried for CRT and got a cancellation!! Wow, what luck!! My daughter and husband were right there cheering me on. When I hung up after getting the CRT PS, we, as a family decided, that, just for this year (since the Norway one is new), we do both, afterall, I was so very lucky!!

I didn't ask for an opinion on whether to do both but how people handle any duplicate characters which can happen in many situations at WDW.:(

Didn't know I'd be told I'm doing something wrong. I'm not hoarding PS's...I will certainly use them all and enjoy them all with my family. I got both completely on my own too! No help whatsoever and one phone no less! Just lucky and since the Ecpot one is new, I feel my family has every right to try both this year. I would NEVER make someone who got their PS's on their own feel badly for wanting to do as many of them as they want to! To each his/her own, I say!

Hasn't anyone ever done 2 Mickey meals in one vacation? Actually, we are doing 2 Mickey meals as well! Sorry, but we're doing Chef Mickey's at our resort just because it's our resort, convenient, and my DD loves that place, and then LTT with the MNSSHP package. I didn't feel a bit bad about that! Should I?

We all spend a lot of money on our vacation and we all should be able to do whatever makes us happy (as long as it's legal and not hurting anyone!) while we're down there and enjoy it to the fullest! What if we can't ever go again?? That is how I plan my vacations; Like I may never go again!:p

beattyfamily-
You have done absolutely NOTHING wrong!!! You obtained your ressies honestly and therefore, all is well! You were just extra lucky this year!!! Congratulations!!! I am sure you all will have a great time at BOTH your princess meals and BOTH your MM meals!!! :bounce:

We're hoping to do both breakfasts this December - my little one absolutely is in awe of the princesses (and I think my teenagers love them too!). Allison hasn't asked before about the princesses, but I guess I'd use the old "Helper" explanation!

My family will be doing the Epcot breakfast, and then we're doing the CP Pkg at Chefs de France. If I am lucky to get a PS for Cinderella's Castle, then just my little one and I will be going to that breakfast.

I think if its your vacation and that's what makes you (or your child) happy, then go and enjoy!!!

Calm down, beattyfamily, it's alright to do as many character meals as you want in my oppinion...shoot, do three. Nobody has any right to tell you how many character meals you can do.

I'm just not that crazy about character meals myself because I get all tonge tied and never know what to say to the characters. I usually end up saying something stupid and totally unappropriate like last year at LTT I told Minnie, "Hey, I'm glad you characters won your lawsuit to get paid while you get dressed in your costumes." See, I just don't know how to act around them.:p I've got two scheduled this trip because my DGD likes them, otherwise I'd do everyone a favor and stay away from those places.LOL One more crack like I made last year and I'm liable to get barred.

Soooo, on Halloween night, if you see Goofy slinging me out the door at LTT you'll know what happened.:teeth:

KathyR, Magic2000, and Jennymouse,

Thanks so much for the kind words!!!!

I'm sure our family will enjoy the character meals we have planned, and as you know jennymouse, I have quite a few planned!

I'm like you, though. If I didn't have 2 little DD's, I wouldn't go. I feel so uncomfortable talking to them for some reason!!! And I know I'd say something goofy too! Luckily I just keep it simply about my girls and taking pictures etc...!

Thanks for the laugh, jennymouse!:teeth:

I have PS for the Storybook Princess Breakfast and am going to be trying to get Cindy's too. The breakfasts are different, imho, as Cinderella appears only at the castle. There is no guarantee that there will be any duplicate characters, and so what if one princess appears in both places? We're doing Chef Mickey's and Garden Grill on this trip as well as LTT character dinner and Tony's lunch.

The real point of a 2nd princess meal was to make $$$. Disney saw the demand and (finally) responded. I'm VERY glad they're offering it, but this isn't an altruistic gesture to aid the downtrodden Disney guests who couldn't score a date with Cindy. As long as the paying public's rumps are filling those seats, and our dollars are going to their bottom line, Disney doesn't care if you eat at both meals every day of your trip. I have PS for the Epcot princesses booked 2 days, and a CM saw that and didn't even comment. I hope to get Cindy's one of those days then cancel the extra princess PS.

It didn't occur to me to think about the faces being different. My 11 and 8 yr. olds most certainly know the truth, but the characters are still celebrities to them. I think I'll just ask my 4 dd what she thinks and let her answer the question.

I think that the "real" ones are in the movies, and these are just "helpers."

Obviously, Ariel at the MK looks nothing like Ariel in the movie except a young woman with red hair and your daughters are willing to accept that. They may continue to suspend belief and you won't have to explain anything.

And if they do ask, there is always the "What do you think?" answer. Which will allow your children to decide for themselves whether to keep believing a little longer. You might want to let your older child know that she should "keep the magic" for the little one

If the issue is that you think your daughter will notice the facial differences between the actresses, I wouldn't really worry about this. Heck, I'd have a hard time telling them apart myself- when you're in the fantasy, that's Cinderella, and the particular facial features of the actress just aren't distinguishable to me. I see the gown and the hair, and I think "Cinderella."
My experience with my students (and they're 6th graders) is that they aren't that observant, and they are completely gullible. The same kids who are having sex in the stairwells believe that Superman is real, because they saw him on TV (really, true examples). So I think that in general, kids seem to be pretty naive, and I wouldn't second guess by explaining away minor differences in the princesses, that might escape your daughter's notice if left to herself.
Cheers!

We did the Storybook Princess Breakfast in August and Snow White, Aurora, Mary Poppins, Jasmine and Belle were there.

We tried to get PS for the one at Cinderella's this time, but were unable, so I got PS for 1900 Park Faire... and Mary Poppins appears there as well!

DD did ask how, if she was at the Storybook Breakfast, could she also be at the 1900 Park Faire Breakfast. I said..."easy, she takes turns"... satisfied even a pretty sharp 8 year old, so it should work out for younger ones, too!

Oh, and the characters are really good about handling those types of situations, too. They play right along!

We kind of had this problem when I stupidly asked the CM at Toontown fair if Chip and Dale are always at Chef Mickey's. (cause we had a PS for Chef Mickey's that night and I didnt' want to stand in line at Toontown fair if they were going to be at Chef Mickeys). Of course the answer was yes.

Later, my 7 year old says. Mom, there must be two Chips and two Dale's if they are always at Chef Mickeys, and they are at Toontown too.

I felt terrible, but I recovered well, by saying, "Oh, yes, they are always at Chef Mickey's for MEALS, but if they aren't cooking they can come to other places".

He also asked my DH how Mickey could be at MGM in the sorcerer costume and then at Chef Mickeys the same night and DH told him that the Character Caravan is very fast for travelling between resorts and parks.

We also saw Cinderella at the breakfast but didn't have our autograph books then. So days later we got her autograph at Toontown fair, but of course, it was a different actress. DS didn't notice though and she was real cool at playing along. I told her we had been to her breakfast but didn't have our books then and she said, "Oh yes, I remember that you didn't have your books yet. DS didn't have a clue!

At least you didn't say "You must feel so much more comfortable being able to wear your own underwear, rather then the shared pairs you use to have to wear :)" Thanks for the chuckle.

I say do as many character breakfasts as you want, we have done CRT twice now and will probably try something different on our next trip. I would prefer to do a character lunch or dinner as I feel they give you better value for your buck but enjoy as many meals as you like.

On our trip in June my 5 year old daughter definately noticed when face characters were protrayed by different people. We saw 2 different Cindy's and 2 different Ariel's during our visit and she knew it right away. But she notices every little detail about every thing. Infact she was quite upset that "Tinkerbell" flew away from the castle and not around the castle like she is suppose to - LOL Enjoy both Bfasts but just let the little ones know that some of the princesses may have helpers;) Just in case they notice.

beattyfamily - good question.

I never thought about that question. We will be doing the Princess breakfast 5 days before CRT so I hope my 3-year-old doesn't notice.

P.S. Don't worry about too many character meals. So far have 5 character meals scheduled. We are doing LTT for MNSSHP, the Ice Cream Social, Donald's Breakfastasorus, the Princess breakfast, and CRT. We may add Chef Mickey's. :p
