For those afflicted by the DVC add-on/resale desease...

I know that you (I) always want more points, but do you find yourself with not enough vacation time to use the points from an additional purchase?!!!

Boy, I'm tempted to add-on at BCV. We can afford it right now. But,... we have "enough" (can you really have enough points?!! ;) ) for the next few years. DH DOESN"T HAVE ENOUGH VACATION TIME to justify an add-on of more points!!! ARRGGHH!! As it is already, I plan to travel to WDW with the kids occassionally without him.

Now why do we have to work? Wait..., how else to afford more points?

Bummer... :( :(

So for us, it's not the money, it's the time. The second DH gets more vacation time, I'll be buying more points! Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm with you on this! My DH only gets 2 wks vacation and it will always only be 2 wks. no matter how long he's been there. We currently have 200 HH pts., 150 OKW pts., and 140 VB pts. When I suggested adding on at BCV I quickly decided against it with the look I got. After the look, I got the explanation that we only have 2 wks. to use what we already own. He's right, but it was sure tempting to add more pts!

I have a job where I work a lot of hours, but I have some control (dwindling day by day) of when I put in the hours. The problem is, I have no formal vacation time and have some trouble getting away. Buying into DVC was a way of assuring myself and my family that I would take a vacation and that we would have family vacations.

You could always use a big amount of points in one shot like DCL or a WDW non-DVC resort.

I've been ckecking the boards trying to decide if more points are needed-YES! We have 250 VWL points but I'd really like to add on-but where??? We seem to always gravitate to the BW for evenings, but the newer BCV could be nice! Only problem, DH says we have enough!
Anyway, if we could do a 50 point add-on, which do you suggest-BWV,BCV or VWL???(We have a Feb. use year)

and I thought I was the only one trying to "find" time to vacation with DH's schedule. He only gets so much time off (and frankly so do I). There are emergencies, doctors appointments, "mental health" days and other personal situations where we need to use our time in addition to vacations.

The way I figure it, we will be empty nesters in a few years and with using a studio for one trip and one bedroom for another, we can squeeze two 7 day trips a year so our 170 points works just fine for us. If we add points, we would have a problem finding the necessary vacation time to use them (at least that is what I keep telling myself ;) ).

We are lucky enough to get plenty of vacation time. My wife is a teacher, so she is off all summer, x-mas week, Easter week, etc.
Where I work (GM) I get 5 weeks vacation, x-mas week, 2 weeks shutdown-nationwide(July 1-14) every year.So we do have plenty of vacation time to use our DVC points. Also we will both be RETIRED in 5 years (at age 52) so we will have plent of time to use our points.:bounce:

You empty nesters better get those extra points NOW. You think you won't use them, think again!

We have 300 points. We are almost empty nesters (2 married off, 1 in college that comes home in the summer). This May we headed for WDW. All 3 kids joined, plus repective daughter-in-law, son-in-law and grandson. College age DS brought along a buddy. Silly me thought he might not want to come along because of his summer job, LOL.

Before you start counting, that meant 1 2 BDRM and 2 studios. About 4 months out the enormity of the situation hit me and I decided DH and I needed to go down a couple of days early to get organized and have SOME vacation to ourselves. So, there was another 2 BDRM (DS and college buddy came along). After 5 days with the commandos, I decided I needed a couple of more days to recover - 2 more nites in a 2 bdrm.

Total cost - 552 points. Obviously, we need more points!!;)

After 2 add-ons to our initial purchase of 230, we thought we had plenty of points! Well after a ski trip in a really nice condo, four days at the Plaza NYC, and our upcoming short trip to OKW over NYE, we are completely borrowed into 2003 :( Once you start venturing out of DVC into the world of opportunity awaiting you in the Concierge Collection, I don't think there is such a thing as enough points. Although, we do have the luxury of 3 weeks of vacation time per year, we just have to schedule around school calendars. but with the point system of DVC, we can squeeze 4-5 day trips in here and there. I think no matter how many points we had, we would find a way to use them in however much time we had to use them with.

I totally agree with this "obsession". I have not been to WDW yet since I became a DVC member in June. However, I started this hobby of buying points at different resorts because I cannot resist some of the resale contracts/different resort options.

I am almost done with all the closings now. However, I just realized that I have way more points than I can use due to our limited vacation times.

Like the previous posts, after my kids' doctor visits, periodic errands that I have to take time off for, other places to visit, I realized I don't have enough time to use my points (can't tell my hubby that, he sort of just let me acquire these points up to now).

Also, he insists on having just a studio when we do go to WDW. He says that if I can be happy with a hotel room, what is wrong with a studio. I guess I just have to go from a studio to a bigger unit later. One step at a time.

Luckily, the rental board is a good place to rent out the extra points until we start going to WDW more frequently.
