I booked an internet special rate on SW and thought I got a prettty good deal.($59 .00) Today a ding fare was released for my airports ( not my dates though) and I started thinking if a ding was released in March, for these prices ($44) I could save about $168 dollars. Wow.
I went on Southwest website and it sounds very confusing to me on how to change from an internet special to a ding. I even went through the steps on the refund (cancellation ) page and it says that only $70.00 of my $398 will be refunded, the rest can be used toward credit. Then it says it may take a few days to process the ticketless travel????Is that right?
I thought once you cancell your flight, the credit can be used IMMEDIATELY to purchase a DING fare.Imagine that I cancell my fare and then in the process the DING is sold out?!! Could that happen? It sounds like everyone on the DIS has no problem changing and getting their flights.I really don't want to hold on to SW CREDIT as we are only flying this one time. I want to credit my charge card. Doesn't sound like that's how it works.
Anyone care to give their experience, and perhaps some instuction on how to do this? That is IF a fare is released for my date.
Thanks!

I'm not a Ding expert, but this is a Southwest credit issue, Ding or not.

Since you're changing not only your fares but also your flights, I don't believe Southwest issues credits to your form-of-payment. You can only get flying credit (for lack of a simpler way to put it). But it IS transferable.

I changed from a $177 regular fare to a $107 ding for my trip last October. You open up the ding fare, go all the way to the point where you would put in the confirmation code for your ticketless fund credit (the original reservation confirmation #). Then open up a separate window, cancel the original reservation. Then go back to the window with the ding fare and purchase. My credit was available immediately.

Unless you originally bought a refundable ticket, they will not refund the credit to your card. It will go into ticketless travel fund.

When I rebook DING fares I always have 2 windows open at once. One to do the cancelation, the other to immediately rebook (I fill out everything I can short of applying the ticketless travel funds before canceling the other res).

Great. Now I get it. Do you know what the $70.oo refund would have been?(maybe taxes??)The rest was ticketless travel credit. Did I read it right?
I called Southwest and they said if THE SAME FLIGHT and time go down in price, they WILL refund my CREDIT CARD the difference but not if I make any changes.I would have to mail them my artinnarary. That's pretty good to know.I guess I should just stick with the deal I got. I really don't think we will travel again in a year. Thanks guys.

I still have the $70 in the ticketless travel fund for a future flight. I believe you can ask for the taxes back immediately (about $12) but I left it in the fund.
