Your friends need to watch the Shrek trilogy again to see all the Disney-spoofing that goes on in the movies. If it weren't for Disney, Dreamworks wouldn't be able to put a movie out at all. No imagination...

Well, that isn’t exactly true. Jeffrey Katzenberg was the head of the Disney studios for, arguably, their most successful animated movies: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King. He was also one of the founding members of Dreamworks SKG (Apielberg, Katzenberg , Geffen). He is more than capable of making good animated features.

Shrek also plays for English football team Manchester United ;) (sorry Firedancer :lmao:)

Does not play well with others.
Walt would have fired him in a heartbeat.

the book The Pixar touch - the making of a company by David A. Price,
paints a not so flattering picture of his days at Disney.

"more than capable" of making Shrek 3
or as we call it Dreck 3

The Disney Wars paints the picture of how Michael Eisner gave him no choice :)

gave him no choice but to make Shrek 3,

Jeffrey didn't produce Shrek the Third, only the first 2. Aron Warner produced the third movie.

Jeffrey is a very unique personality and is very aggressive but he got results. Had Wells and Ashman not died and Katzenberg not left Disney I think the post-Lion King animated features would have been different (and by different, I mean better). The first two were unavoidable, the third down to Eisner’s ego.

As far as the Pixar relationship goes, the only movie Jeff had input on was Toy Story. He was the one who pushed for it to be a buddy movie. Add that movie's success to the previous 4 and you have to agree they were a pretty impressive sting of hits.

I'm just beginning to piece together all the drama between companies. I had never realized that Dreamworks isn't JUST competition, it's personal on some levels. Most people do not care to dig deep enough into the history of Disney to find this stuff. For those who are interested, there is a nice thread on "who has led since Eisner and do we like him" with a very good debate.

Also check out Disney War. Be warned though, it's not for people with a low pixie dust rating. You have to be strong to read it. I'm at the point where I can only stand 5 pages at a time because I get angry. I keep reading because in order to change the future we have to understand the past.

Did you know they are making a Shrek musical on Broadway?

This is the best way to look at DisneyWar. It's painful to read but offers great insight on how we can change the future.

I read the The Pixar Touch too, some of the stuff Katzenberg did was something, but I think it was more directed at Michael Eisner.

That aside I liked the Shrek movies, but they are not Disney made.
