FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER...I'm NOT GOING HOME!! UPDATE DEC.30 PG 74

Hi Everyone! I'm Dawn, aka Caitlin's mom. Caitlin asked me if I'd do an update since people have been asking about our move. After I agreed she asked me to join her as her co-writer since that is how we used to do all our TRs. So if nobody minds this will now be a joint report about her DCP and our move to the mouse. Saturday the 30th we got to participate in what is the coolest thing we have done since Dale and I got here. Caitlin, myself and our 2 yr old Shih Tzu/terrier mix "Ypsi" (named after the city of Ypsilanti, Mi. home to the University Caitlin and I both graduated from) attended "Dog's Day at the Magic Kingdom". For "Dog's Day" Disney selected 101 dogs to visit the MK dressed as their favorite character. To be selected the dogs had to submit a pic, in costume, and their health records. We were super excited to take her and we dressed her as Buzz Lightyear in a child's Buzz pajama top. We had to be at the MK at 5:30am! Luckily our apt is less that 15 minutes from the MK :woohoo: We arrived and checkin was extremely smooth considering there were 101 dogs and their owners and guests. http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/dawnbur40/media/2014-08/20140830_060807_zpsgo4pvchl.jpg.html At 6:30 the event kicked off and we were all allowed into the MK. The dogs paraded down a green "grass" carpet adorned with fire hydrants. Along the way they were greeted by some famous Disney dogs. First up was Pluto who scared the heck out of Ypsi. After that I had to hold her when the characters were around. http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/d...3-4ddf-a424-ae19b16cc3ca_zpsfc256159.jpg.html http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/d...8-4e2c-a304-7acb008864cd_zps2ba69c5f.jpg.html http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/dawnbur40/media/2014-08/20140830_072353_zpsaur2mtaw.jpg.html We waited in front of the castle for a bit and then the dogs were taken on a quick tour of the MK. Ypsi loves to go for walks so she ended up making her way to the front of the pack and was second in line behind what appeared to be Cujo. This dog was not at all friendly and growled and barked at all the CMs. Ypsi on the other hand loves people and dogs and didn't growl or bark once. We were so proud :) http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/dawnbur40/media/2014-08/20140830_074102_zpsefsjrawe.jpg.html She got lots of love from the fairy godmothers outside BBB http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/dawnbur40/media/2014-08/20140830_074327_zpsekumtdjt.jpg.html Our sweet girl http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/dawnbur40/media/2014-08/20140830_074442_zpsnizzd2hy.jpg.html After the tour we grabbed the breakfasts they had for both the people and the dogs and sat down to eat. I was sitting there thinking "this new Florida life is pretty great" and then it happened. I felt something in my mouth and realized I'd broken a tooth. :scared: Now I have had the same dentist for 20 years and he is an extended family member. When I left Michigan I had every intention of keeping that same dentist. I figured I will be home at least twice a year and can get my cleanings, exams then. Easy! I was trying to stay calm but was freaking out. We hadn't even been in Florida two weeks and now I have to find an emergency dentist?! For some people this might not be a big deal but I have white coat fever so the idea of a brand new dentist and what work might have to be done, was fear inducing. This ended up being the start of a really rough week for me. I was worried about the tooth, Caitlin and Dale were both working and busy, (since I work from home I was all alone) I was homesick and worried if we'd ever get our furniture delivered because they kept changing the delivery date. I wasn't sure how to find a dentist so Caitlin asked her boyfriend Ben to see if anyone at work had a good dentist. A waitress gave me her dentists number and gave him high praise. It turned out to be a blessing she gave me the referral. He was very gentle and kind and spiritual and made the whole thing really easy for me. Good news was the roots were healthy and it just needed to be filled. What a relief! :) As for the other stressors, well Monday we finally got our furniture! :yay: I'm not sure why it took us 17 hours to get to Florida and took our stuff 3 weeks but we are so glad its here! Our place is starting to shape up and feel like "home" which is a wonderful feeling :woohoo: Now if we can just convince the grandparents to join us down here.... Now that we have been here almost a month we are starting to settle in and find our way around. As you Dissers would expect the best thing is being minutes from Disney. We are able to just pop over to a park for a few hours when we have time and Caitlin and I have started our new tradition of having a Disney lunch at least once a week. Last week it was Beaches and Cream and today was Cooke's of Dublin. I guess that brings ya'll up to date on what's been happening with us. Tuesday we are doing MNSSHP so we will share lots of pictures from that and hopefully it will be better than Villains Unleashed  Thanks for reading!

Dawn - welcome! Could you possibly change the color on your posts? It's hard to read the green. Thank you! :-)

Ypsi is adorable. :lovestruc I've never heard of Dog Days at Disney before and this looks like so much fun. ::yes:: I was born in Michigan and so have lots of family there. Ypsilanti is one of those names you just can't forget. ;)

That would be hard to find all new doctors, and hairdressers, too. ;) I'm glad you found a good dentist.

That is nice to be so close to Caitlin now. Our two daughters moved out of state and I really miss not seeing them more often. :(

By the way, it is 53 degrees right now in Chicago. I bet you won't miss the freezing cold northern winters. :)

Hi Dawn. I saw the Disney Dog Day on YouTube and it looked great! Your doggy looks super cute, what a great day, although not so good about your tooth.

Glad to hear your move has all gone smoothly. Wish I could have a Disney lunch every week!

It was a great event. I expected chaos with all those dogs but the event ran smoother than Villains Unleashed :rotfl:

Sorry you had trouble reading. I have always used green as my color but I will switch to bold font.

This was the first time they held the Dog Day but we are hoping it becomes an annual event. When Caitlin rescued Ypsi from the Detroit Humane Society she wanted to give her a Detroit name. If she was a boy she would have been "Miggy" but Ypsi seems to fit her :)

Thank you. Next up we need to find a doctor and hairdresser. Things you take for granted "at home".

It is great to be near Caitlin. Dale searched for jobs in Florida and Michigan but Michigan's job market just isn't growing so Florida got us. I understand how you must miss your girls.

Happy to see you've joined Caitlin in writing this! :goodvibes So sorry to hear about your tooth and the furniture but sounds like things are coming together now! :thumbsup2 And having found a good dentist is the silver lining! Very excited to hear more about your transition. I cannot fathom being able to "pop over" to Disney for a weekly lunch... I'm SO jealous!!! ;)

Thank you! Having our stuff makes a world of difference in making our new place feel like "home".

We really like the area we are in and the fact that Disney is within 15 minutes is amazing. It is a real treat to be that close and it also helps since that area is so familiar to us that it makes things here seem less foreign.

Dawn that sucks about your tooth. Glad it was a easy fix. I hate finding a new dentist every four years. Glad you guys are settling in. We have lived in Fl twice in to different locations. I have wanted to move back after the last time but have to convince the hubby. Kids are all for it.

Moving every 4 years would be miserable. Where in Florida were you?

So glad you are joining in on the report. I love all the pictures with your puppy. I hope your husband is liking his new job. Minutes from the Magic Kingdom, AHHHHHH.:lovestruc

Thank you. Thank you she our baby. :)

He is doing pretty well adjusting. He not only has to learn a new company but the culture down here is very different than in Michigan too so he is adjusting. He also started taking online college courses so he is very busy!

It is pretty awesome being this close. We hear fireworks every night.

Hi Dawn :wave2: Thanks for joining and will be great to get your perspective as well!

Congrats on the move - must be very exciting but also a bit stressful ... glad things worked out with the Dentist and that your furniture arrived :thumbsup2

That bark in the park event looks really fun and so unique! We have taken one of our dogs (a Boston Terrier named Edgar) to NY Met games a few times as they have events and those were tons of fun. I am sure he would be excited to be in the Magic Kingdom!

Thank you! :)

You're so right the move has been both stressful and exciting. We were doing ok waiting on our stuff and then we started hearing horror stories from people about delays and damaged furniture etc so it just compounded the worry.

The dog event was really fun and Ypsi loves to go everywhere with us so it was super fun for her. Taking the dog to the ballpark sounds fun. We never had that in Detroit or Ypsi probably would have been there too :)

Welcome Dawn!

Congrats on the move! I am sure that is a big adjustment from MI. I am glad things are working out for you and you are close to your daughter!

The Doggie Event looks like it was a lot of fun!

Sweet!!! I love your joint TR's so this is awesome! Not to mention the fact about how wonderful it is that you were able to move to Florida. Some things are just meant to be. And 15 minutes from MK???? Jealous!

I remember seeing pictures of this, but couldn't figure out how it was possible to have dogs in MK. Now I get it. How cool to have a photo of your dog on Main Street. Not many people can say that.

Despite the initial hardships, it's so nice that to hear you're settling in. And a once a week lunch in Disney sounds oh so good!!

Your 4 legged baby is adorable. What a fun event!

Congrats on the move. It's hard making the transition (I moved from MO to CO 6 years ago) but you adjust quickly.

Thank you! It is a big adjustment. Going into we mainly thought just the climate would be different but the culture in the south is so different from the north. Not to mention how bizarre it is to see 3 feet tall birds walking down the street :rotfl:

It was very fun and very well run :thumbsup2

We do feel like this is the plan of where we are supposed to be right now the way everything just sort of fell into place.

It was a real treat being able to take her and everyone there felt the same way.

Thank you! We love our Disney days :)

Thank you and it was!

Wow you had quite a move too!

Exciting to hear about your move. Our only DD21 is hoping for a career with Disney after graduation in May, so I think DH & I will end up in Florida, too!
