For people with more than 1 home resort

Hello!
I own at SSR - 150 points. I am in Disney now and went to the DVC center and spoke to a guide about adding points on with the new incentives. I was considering adding on at one of the other resorts - either GCV, AKL, BLT, or even adding on SSR points. I'm just wondering if it gets confusing with more than 1 home resort with banking, making sure you alternate points, and just keeping the contracts straight. I'm thinking it would really only be an issue if you book at more than 7 months since at 7 it becomes a big pool of points.

I can't decide where to add on! I'm thinking it would probably just be easier to do SSR so it's all one resort and then I won't confuse myself, lol. How do you feel about more than one home resort? Does it get confusing at all? Thanks for your help! I know people here on the Dis will be a lot more help than the guides, LOL

We added on BLT so we could get the 11 month window to book MK view. Disney gives you the same use year, that makes things easier to keep track of. We like having the 11 month window at two resorts.

The reason to have more than one home resort is to have the 11 month booking advantage at resorts where you love to stay.

As long as you keep with one UY, keeping track of point usage isn't a problem.

You will probably save money buying resale, so be sure to check that out also.

If you keep an eye on your points after each transaction, I think it's great to own at the resorts you really want to stay at. We have points at 6 home resorts. All have the same use year.

Although I think it would be great to have points at multiple resorts, you need to make sure you have enough points at one resort to take advantage of your biggest trip planned.

For example, in my case, I'm planning a big, 10 night family vacation this summer. I'll be getting a 2 BR plus two studios, all BWV standard view. It will be about 720 points which, with banking and borrowing, is easy for us to do. I was able to book all of this at the 11 month window.

If my points were spread between multiple resorts, I would have had to wait until the 7 month window to book some of the rooms with the risk that I wouldn't have been able to get what I wanted.

We have added points last year and went with BLT, e have 2 small children and being able to walk to the magic kingdom is big for us, also having the monorail and several resorts close for dining works when u want to eat and not have to prepare 2 hours in advance to get everyone dressed and waiting for bus. Also having the epcot monorail is easier for us so 2 of the 4 parks involve no buses. As for confusion on points and banking the wife and I have a small notebook seperated in 2 where we log everything from points, to our dining resv numbers and magical express tags and we plan pretty far in advance so we know months before we are able to bank where our points are going. Also if it ever gets confusing just call member services they are always helpful and that part of the service u pay for.

I love having my three home resorts. Everybody has a favorite resort they want to stay at. When we take my parents we do the BWV, the summer we pick BCV and then with the kids we stay at BLT.

We "get" your concerns.

We have two home resorts--we want to book BCV for Thanksgiving some of the time, so we added points there along with most of our points at SSR.

And yes, it does get confusing to remember which points from where are available at any given time. And yes, it only matters when you're dealing w/booking further than 7 months out--but since you can use borrowed points at the 11-7 month window, it's really keeping track of a year and a half of planning...

The DVC member website helps when I get forgetful. But when they make mistakes (and they do), that adds to the confusion factor.

Still, for us it's worth it. We really liked being at BCV this past T-giving (altho we'll also be really glad to return to SSR next T-giving).

The more trips you plan in a given year, the more the potential for confusion. If you only do one or two trips per year, it should be relatively simple to keep track of your points availability at each resort. If you're like us, however, and add trips as you add points, the confusion factor is very real.

We've gotten used to it. And as noted it is worth it to us. But there's no doubt it's confusing. At this point, I couldn't tell you how many points I have available for 2010 at each of our two resorts. If/when I need to know, I'll consult the DVC member website and take it from there.

I own SSR & OKW, but have 7 memberships in those two resorts. 5 have samr UY and the 2 that are different UY each are very hard to keep track when booking. I would try to keep same UY at all cost.

I decided to do a resale at my home resort. LOL I just didn't want the drama of being confused and possibly screwing up! And I never book at more than 7 months, so I figured why bother? In hindsight I should have originally bought at my favorite resort - but oh well! I'm trying to stay at different ones and really enjoying it!! Thanks for all the insight

Since you indicted there is a resort you would prefer to stay, I would recommend that you buy a second contract (with the same UY as your first) at the resort you wish to stay. Even though you currently reserve after 7 months at some point you may have constrains (i.e. kids) that require you to go during high demand times. Having the home resort booking advantage at a high demand resort you want to stay is a great advantage to have.

Having 2 different resorts with the same UY is not very confusing at all. We currently have 4 sub-contracts(one master/ UY). Having 2 was not a problem. It started getting confusing with number 3 and 4. If you have 2 contracts you can just alternate years which resort you stay and bank the others points.
