where would you stay? We will be arriving late on a Friday, and leaving Saturday for a Disney Cruise. Any place that would be especially fun to do some morning exploring?

We have stayed CBR, WL, POFQ, BCV, AKL - and would not repeat a resort. Of what's left, where would you spend one night?

I would stay at the Hyatt in the airport. It is convenient and gets you to the port early. They take care of your luggage for you. My kids have a ball just swimming when we get there and then doing a few shops, although we have always got on the 10am bus to Port Canaveral.

I was just coming here to ask similar!

We are going to go to MK for one day, the day we get back from our cruise, so we're looking for a 1 night resort for that night. :thumbsup2 For 2 adults/2 kids, it's about $600 for a 1 night package at a value, including regular dining and 1 day basic park tickets, so I think we're going to do that. We just have to decide on which value! We've never done a value so I'm not sure whether I want to do Pop or All Star Movies.

For your situation, since Port Canaveral is about an hour from WDW, I'd consider a DTD hotel and then enjoy DTD the previous night and then until lunch the next day.

For just one night, (with money no object) I would splurge and get a theme park view at one of the monorail resorts (don't know if you'll arrive in time for fireworks, but you will be able to watch the castle change colors). Then I would ride monorail, visit shops, maybe a nice breakfast at either a character venue ('ohana, chef mickey's, 1900 park fare) or a more adult-friendly one (kona, the wave, gf cafe) and go shopping or rent some water craft at one of the marinas.

Well if you want a lower rate but fun then I would choose Pop because it has the best food court and lots of fun things to see there. I took so many pictures plus it is great for kids. There are great pools too plus you can see a sneak preview of the AOA resort being built. You could catch the bus to any monorail resort to see fireworks that night if you wanted plus the electric water pageant. You definitely want to be on the first bus you can to take you to the port in the am though.

You didn't mention budget, so I'd go for Poly in Deluxe category, or POR-Riverside for a moderate.

We did this last August, so in addition to sharing where we would stay, I'll share where we did! BWI CL, and it was perfect for this situation. (Although we stayed two nights with Typhoon Lagoon in between.)

But here's what we loved about the night before the cruise and the morning of the cruise:

1) Location! There is so much to do around the Crescent Lake area (you know this, because you've stayed at BCV.) We loved the ability to walk around and visit multiple resorts. It's like five resorts in one!

2) Dining. No park tickets, but tons of dining options - again, because of the 5-in-one feature of the Epcot resorts area. We ate at Il Mulino and Flying Fish those two nights, and Yachtsman when we returned to BC post-cruise.

3) Disney immersion. At first, I booked a hotel near the port for the couple nights before our cruise, but then I changed our plans and switched our reservation to BWI. I'm so glad we did! Hopping on Magical Express to BWI, and then taking the DCL transfers from BWI to the port was convenient and fun. (Not the least expensive option, and didn't get us to the port early, but it worked out perfectly for us.) We had time for swimming, shopping and an early lunch at Beaches & Cream before the DCL bus picked us up at BWI. And then the port was entirely uncrowded when we arrived - walked right onto the Dream and straight to our room.

4) Pool. Fun pool and slide at BWI. I prefer SAB (and we stayed at BC after the cruise, so we used SAB then, but for a short trip, the BWI pool is fun.)

5) View of the Parks. We chose the Epcot resorts area very purposefully. Our boys love Epcot, and we could see Illuminations from the club lounge and Wishes from our BWI balcony. But we rarely had a direct view of the Epcot ball, which was good under these circumstances! We specifically decided against a stay in the MK area, because it would be hard for our three boys (ages 12, 11 and 5) to be looking at the castle knowing that they can't go to MK. Of course, they were very lucky to be going on a cruise and have been to WDW many times, but for kids - well, they just didn't want that in front of them. And I get that!

Good luck with your decision!

I almost always fly into Orlando late at night before my Disney vacation starts and I have to say, that the Hyatt inside the airport is your best bet. I have used them twice before and will again on my upcoming trip this summer. The customer service is great, the hotel is very nice, and they can even take care of your luggage for your Disney cruise. I have met at the roof top pool many of a family taking a Disney cruise the next day and everyone seems to enjoy the convenience and service the Hyatt provides.

I always call Hyatt direct and see what offers they have and I scored a Jr executive suite with free breakfast buffet for 2, a lot cheaper than any deluxe Disney hotel. They offer a lot specials and also have good AAA rates too. You can get room upgrades for almost next to nothing as well and once you book, you get the option of upgrading through an email.

A few questions......how are you getting over to port??? Are you driving yourself? And if so, will you be renting at MCO, and driving to WDW?? Or are you taking DME to WDW and then DCL transfers to port.
Also, what time are you planning on heading to port on Sat???

If you really want to spend that first night at WDW, I would go with either BW or Polynesian. Both resorts offer lots of interesting stuff to just wander around and look at, nice pools to enjoy. You could still get a 'feel' of WDW without actually going into the parks.

If you are planning on driving over to port and want to get there early, I would suggest just heading right there on Friday. That way you can relax a bit, have a good night sleep, a leisurely breakfast and then head off to the ship.

I would recommend the Boardwalk Inn because of their theme/atmosphere, the entertaniers that perform everynight, midway games and the Luna Park Pool.
