The princesses didn't make the comments in front of me, but sound carries so well from the road, here. They looked at me kind of confused and had no idea why the difference in candy. Yeah, it was mean. Oh, well.

C'mon admit, it was also a fleeting moment of guilty pleasure. ;)

I did not comment from a safe distance. I went looking for PG to tell her we welcomed her joining us even for a minute. I did not cut and paste your post, but seeing as these are public posts, I don't see the harm in sharing on other posts. If you wanted privacy, you probably shouldn't have posted it to begin w/. And by using your quote, we upped our posts by 1. ;)

Anyway, I'm sorry you feel the way you do theAnswr. I think we would be a much better nation if we come together on the issues in which we agree. I don't believe in being a wedge in the "system" just because my guy isn't in the White House. I believe in doing what's best for our nation as a whole even if it means giving the other guy the tools of accomplishing good things for the betterment of all. Just like in sports.... If half the team keeps taking off in the other direction, the team will never win. In order to play well, the 1/2 the team that disagrees w/ the quarterback, must follow his lead. Or the team will end up losing. So I hope you change your mind and join the team so we all benefit. But if not. That is your right. I'm just sorry you would rather support your candidate to the ends of the Earth if it comes to that and not support your country.

bubie2.5: Thank you for saying so. It's nice to know you are willing to reach out to those of us on the other side. We may not agree on a lot of things, but we can work together to achieve great results. Just your comment to me meant a great deal and I appreciate it greatly.

Hagred: It's nice to see you again! I certainly am not trying to hijack your thread. PG hopped onto our thread for a minute and brought up some points and I think I was just trying to respond to her and reach out to you folks. I will go away now and let you be. I certainly wasn't trying to put a damper on your day.

To all: See you later. I won't drop by again unless you come over to my thread or request me. Smile and be happy w/ your brownies! :)

That was mean. But why were you giving candy? What happened with all those "special brownies" we've been baking here?!?!?! ;)

I would have taken offense at the term "sucks" coming from a child no matter what the context. Mean? Maybe, but you can bet that child learned a lesson. Too many kids today are in desperate need of "manners" training. I lived in an area that typically got over 250 trick or treaters knocking at the door on Halloween night. I developed a custom of rewarding anyone who said 'thank you" with a second treat. The first year only one ONLY ONE kid said thanks. But my reputation spread, and over the years more and more kids earned that second goodie bag.

I do a similar thing with birthday gifts to my nieces and nephews. I send them all checks because they are in Canada. If I get a thank you note, next year's check is bigger, if not, then they get the same amount. The damned thing is, not a one of them has yet figured out my system. And some of them are in their twenties ! Which only goes to prove that the only good coming from this exercise is my own warped satisfaction.

Were those for the whole neighborhood? I ate them all myself.

It really was that word that irritated me, not her sentiments. Hey, maybe her parents post here.

Good news for PA and OH, the weather looks like it will be warm with only occassional showers on Tuesday. I know it's early, and that could change, but good weather will mean a better turn out-- and a Kerry victory, for sure.

Didn't really want to crash this or the Bush supporter thread, since I don't really qualify as either. That said, the above things are precisely the reason I no longer consider myself a Republican. I don't want the government involved in any of those decisions. I'll be voting for George W. Bush, but I'm not thrilled about it because of his support for government intrusion in a lot of areas that I consider private.

On those political spectrum tests that occasionally get posted, I come out as a right-leaning libertarian.

On a side note, I'd just like to say that regardless of who wins next week, I hope we can all bear in mind that we've got a lot more in common than many of these political threads would lead us to believe. John Kerry or George W. Bush getting elected will not spell the end of civilization ;)

Good luck and may the best candidate win :) Either way, the winner will be *my* president for the next four years.

Good morning jrydberg. I read the last couple pages of the Bush thread to see what all this quoting talk was about, and I came across your reply where you said that you were disappointed with people on the Kerry thread because we didn't respond to your post above.

(Anyone else confused with what I just said? )

Anyway, thanks for your post. I'm not registered with either the Dems or the Reps. I'd say I'm socially more liberal but fiscally more conservative, so I understand your dilemma. But I've decided to go with Kerry this election. I share Kerry's values more than I share Bush's values.

I agree with you when you say that no matter who wins, it won't be the end of the world. And I'll add, that I don't hold it against those who are voting for Bush. Okay, well maybe a couple of the nasty ones. ;)

Thanks FIK and Momof2 for the stamp of approval! I often think that things I want to do or things that I have done are "OK" but then find out they are mean and even worse, stupid ... though that isn't my intention at all. Of course I deal with the back fire.

I want to make my vehicle into a "Vote for Kerrymobile" too. I bought patriotic clingy decorations and will figure out something catchy to write in the windows.

For the record I know of no conservative that is happy with the money Bush is spending.
I rarely see it mentioned by EITHER side which is troubling to me. I guess that I place more importance on it than some do nowadays.

What am I going to do after Tuesday? I think I'm going to go to church either way -- I hope it's to give thanks and not to ask for help dealing with another 4 years of Bush.

Coming in cautiously:

I think Bush can't win in somepeople's eyes. He's darned if he does spend and darned if he doesn't.

I've heard people blame him for no funding for "No Child Left Behind". It's not true. He has funded the program. An increase of 34% since it was signed into law 2 years ago.

And war is costly. Some say we shouldn't have been there in the first place, but a lot of the same people say why weren't those explosives monitored? It costs money and "we didn't need to be there.". I've heard some of the same people that cry "No War" say the American people aren't as safe here at home because the explosives are missing!

It sounds like people want it both ways. Protection without cost.
It can't be done.

Amen.

That NAACP article posted previously is troubling. I don't care for the group but I don't remember a time when they didn't make political speeches. It's strange that the IRS is going after them now.

I intend to back whoever the next President is with certain limitations. I won't back his actions if I strongly disagree with them. Being elected doesn't give an individual the right to do whatever they please without comment.

Bingo! To support someone simply because they won an election is dangerous.

I don't take the idea of being the "loyal opposition" during wartime lightly and to trivialize it with "just because he isn't your guy" as the sole reason for that opposition is insulting. And dead wrong.

If I feel this war is going badly because of the mismanagement and just plain incompetence of this administration, my civic duty is to speak up and not just follow a president because he won an election. And to speak up is also my Constitutional right and no president, of any party, takes precedence over that.

I truly feel Bush is taking this country over a cliff and that's why I will never support him.

And, btw, to have someone copy what I wrote in this thread and paste into another thread so others can comment from a safe distance, is not only despicable, but cowardly.

my apologies. :( i was just trying to keep this thread upbeat.

LOL. You weren't the one I had in mind, but apology accepted. :)

They say confession is good for the soul and I will confess there was a bit of "go ahead, make my day" thoughts roaming rent-free in my mind.

I have no problem with what you did by opening a NEW thread to debate what I wrote. Hey, I'm always game for a rousing debate and will probably join your thread when I have more time.

But, "the individual who shall not be named, but we all know who he is" copied my post and pasted it into a pro-Bush thread not to have a debate, but to throw rocks and some did. That's what I found offensive and cowardly.

Soooo, have you made up your mind who you're going to vote for?

ROTFL.......broke myself up with that one.
