The first time I posted on this thread, it was to answer a question posed to Bush supporters, and I asked if it was OK to post the answer here before I did so. I've posted 2 or 3 other times, and each time have been respectful, have not called anyone names, questioned anyone's intelligence or any other way insulted anyone. If that's irritating, I'm sorry, but perhaps you should take it up with the person that told me it was OK to post here. He was one of yours, after all.

I don't think too many Kerry supporters are bothering with them. They've made their minds up already. There have been some posts, but not many lately. Certainly not as many as here.

I have quite a long list of pro-Bush posters on my ignore list until this election is decided. I just added another one.

And bsnyder, thanks for that link. I've been watching http://www.electoral-vote.com/, not realclearpolitics, because it's so close that I can't go by the national polls (which have been bouncing around some since the debates), I'm watching state-by-state to see who gets all of the electoral votes. One day, Ohio's leaning Kerry, the next it's leaning Bush, and Minnesota goes from tied to barely Kerry. It boggles the mind. Nobody can predict this election. And both sides are bracing for possible defeat because it's definitely still up in the air.

Hopefully all this nastiness is just tension. Bush voters want a landslide for their incumbent, Kerry voters want a landslide for the challenger, and wey're getting a race that's neck-and-neck down to the wire. No wonder we're all pissy with each other.

I just would like for the Bush voters to respect the idea behind this thread and please just leave us alone. It's nice to have a place to not have to hear the other side for a tiny little while. We've been hearing it for the last four years. I think the Kerry supporters should leave the Bush Supporters Only thread alone too. It's only fair.

That's fine....I wasn't around when the whole separate thread thing started, and have seen both threads with posters from the other side. I also don't think I've insulted anyone....I posted the realclearpolitics link just as another source of information (although I check the electoral-vote site daily, as well). They (RCP) are a partisan (conservative) site, but their polling information is very inclusive (they don't cherry pick from different polls) and I find the idea of an "average" of the different polls more reliable than the individual polls. And that was true when the average was trending for Kerry, as well.

rasmussenreports.com also puts Kerry in the lead........ there is such a discrepency in the polls it's hard to know what to believe. I'm not so much interested in the national poll but in the state polls for Florida, Ohio and Penn. That's where the election will be won or lost. Hopefully President Clinton's help will energize voters in those battleground states.

Well, obviously chosing a minimum wage job is an extreme example, but if you don't think individual taxpayers and especially small business owners make income/revenue decisions based on the tax consequences of those decisions, you're dreaming.

Back to the regularly scheduled program: DH gets to appear on stage with Michael Moore tomorrow night and the next as part of an anti-war organization. Michael Moore will be at CMU in Pittsbugh, Indiana University of PA, and Fairmont College in WV if anyone is interested in going.

DH is also taking the kids campaigning tomorrow, and I'm going to try to wait in line for a flu shot. People have been lining up at 5 a.m. for the 9 o'clock clinics, and this will probably be the last day they are available in our area. Of course, if I were Dick Cheney, I would already have mine-- no waiting.

What you've come up with is your garden variety strawman argument.

FYI, the subject at hand was the "US punishes success" not "making decisions based on tax consequences". Stop arguing against a point no one's making.

As far as your "dreaming" quip, I am a small business owner and I'll take making more money and paying more taxes any day over making less money and pay less taxes.

Well now you're changing the question.

And I said higher tax rates.

My answer still stands. The government does indeed make the attempt to stifle success. But they don't succeed very often because there are few that make a lot of money who are willing to give it up in order to pay less in taxes.

I already posted this on the Bush Supporters' thread but will do so here so all who may have seen my original post (prior to recent editing) will also see my retraction. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize. I allowed the seeming anonymity of the boards to override my usual inclination to courtesy. In my growing state of irritation with this trend, I allowed it to influence my wording in my reply. Yes, I have added 2 posters to my ignore list but you are not one of them. Your username, I am afraid, was just one that "stuck out" in my mind as an interesting choice for a Disney related board.

My theory is that recently more of us are avoiding the other political threads so a few from the other side are posting here in desperation. If we don't respond to the threads they've started hoping to get a reaction, they come here knowing many of us read this thread regularly. I guess they are going through debate withdrawals.

Personally, I'm going to be so relieved in seven days. Rather than sitting around arguing uselessly, I'm going to get off my behind and take action - I'm going to vote. I've told friends and family that the time for arguments is done. If someone is STILL undecided this close to the election, then they're NEVER going to make up their minds.

I refuse to discuss facts with someone whose decision is made via "heads - Bush, tails - Kerry".
