Just returned from John Edwards in Windham NH...HE IS AWESOME!!! We enjoyed hearing what he had to say, he did take a few questions and he made it a point to shake my 8 year old DD's hand! I said to her "you just shook the hand of our next Vice President!"
He is very down to earth and has so much compassion and common sense.
If you happen to see the speech on the news, I am in a black sweater, pink blouse sitting to the right (3rd row) of Senator Edwards, my 8 yo DD to my left and 12 yo DD and DH to my right.
If you get a chance to see him in person, I highly reccomend it!

I went to see a band play tonight. They are from Canada and one of them was telling me that they are really hoping for a change in the US. I told how we were going o vote as many times as we could o see that that happens. ;)

What was the name of the band? My daughter is in her first year at University here in Canada. There are quite a few American students and they are very vocal about how they are hoping for a change as well.

Good morning from the rainy Golden State, all you true believers, defenders of democracy, lovers of liberty, fighting for freedom and campaigning for civil rights, kings and queens of this great country, supporters of John Kerry, Democrats.

Wanted to share a link today. I also promise to work on that intro, needs a little punching-up

Those of you who know who Dave Eggers are probably familiar with his novel A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and perhaps are aware that he publishes a quarterly literary magazine, McSweeney's, out of his Valencia Street office in San Francisco. McSweeney's is filled with incredible, intelligent writing, and thankfully, there is an internet version!

For 138 days and counting, Timothy McSweeney's Internet Tendency has been publishing, each day, a single "Daily Reason to Dispatch Bush." There's more ammo in here than this administration has deigned to provide to our troops in harm's way. Use it wisely, for with great power comes great responsibility.

Thin Buckle, which is a side project of the keyboardist of Barenaked Ladies, Kevin Hearn. He also performed with his cousin, Harland Williams (of Something About Mary "7 minute Abs" fame) in their group called "The Cousins".

Since there's been a lot of talk about students in this election, I thought I'd post a link to this article from the daily Univ. of Texas paper describing the slumber party that Univ. Democrats threw on Sunday evening so they could be the first in line at the early voting station on campus.

http://www.dailytexanonline.com/news/2004/10/18/TopStories/The-Early.Bird.Gets.The.Vote-771408.shtml

My favorite line: "We want to raise awareness about early voting," said Emily Cadik, spokeswoman for University Democrats. "People sleep out all night waiting for concert tickets. We want to show them that we can get just as excited about voting."

(Had I known in advance, I'd have probably brought them pizza;) )

Question for my friends here, based on a conversation I had with my DH (another avid Kerry supporter). What happens if this election ends up at the Supreme Court again? Not in terms of whose declared the winner (we've had experience with this unfortunately), but in terms of what it means about our election system and mechanics. Would this be a situation where the Constitution is tested? People have now had 4 years to come up with new reactions to this scenario- what could be different? Am I making any sense here? I just think there could be major repercussions if the courts have to step back into a presidential election. Any thoughts?

Good afternoon comrades!;)

Well, a brief glimse over on the dark side and I see where now we're barging into nursing homes trying to register Alzheimer's patients.

I take particular note of a post where someone lives in a nice area of a "bad" city...."bad" being defined as:

A city populated by illegal immigrants. A city populated by a high percentage of welfare recipients.

I believe we were told the other night about the demographics on democratic voters....you'd think once would be enough, huh?
The complaint is that no one is being asked to show ID to register. Yeah, right.

What the hell, any way we can get 'em is good enough for me!:D

I don't know about anyone else, but when all I read from the right are their list of excuses and whines about how the Dem's are cheating, it sure makes it sound like they're awfully worried!!!:rotfl:

Maybe because http://www.electoral-vote.com is showing this today:

Kerry 284 Bush 247

"Kerry keeps moving up in the electoral college. A new Survey USA poll shows he has now inched ahead of Bush in Florida, although his 1% lead means the state is still a statistical tie. Nevertheless, we now show Kerry with more than the critical 270 votes in the electoral college to win. Perhaps more signficant, though, is the fact that in states where Kerry's lead is at least 5%, he has 228 electoral votes. In states where Bush's lead is at least 5%, he has 183 electoral votes. Clearly the race is still wide open."

Hi all!:wave2: I'm one of those voters who was formerly undecided. Guess what pushed me over the edge into Kerry's camp? Well, it just happens to be the "For Bush Supporters Only" thread! Wow. Talk about a lack of sense of humor. Most of that thread is focused on your thread. Right now, a few of them are arguing with Canadians.:rotfl: Go Kerry!:thewave:

Hi! I'm quoting myself because my harmless post about the Republicans' sense of humor somehow created controversey. I've been sent pm's asking how I could vote for someone based on sense of humor? Obviously, this proves my point. I was JOKING. I was undecided. I watched the debates, read articles and read threads here on the Dis. My overall impression is that Kerry will best benefit America for my future. However, I stand by my opinion that the Bush supporters on the Dis lack a sense of humor, as do some of the people who talk about me over in more "sarcastic" places. :teeth:

Go Kerry!:thewave:

I find it particularly funny that the right wants to complain about your post, when you were so obviously joking, yet it was perfectly fine last week when one of their star posters said that she was Republican because of a handful of dem's who post here.

Hmmmm.....can anyone see the hypocrisy besides me?????
