Update #1 DD's haircut
I made an appt with my sister stylist. He only had one open appt so I let dd have it. She really needed a haircut (split ends).I told him what type of cut. I told him I wasnt happy with the cut and felt it was uneven and choppy. I pointed out the areas and he mentioned more blending and clean it up. I also told him that I didnt want the shortest layer any shorter and wasnt sure if it could be fixed without going shorter. I told him I want the layers to look good if dd straightened it or wears it curled. DD had slpit ends so told him to cut off
2- 2 1/2 inches off the bottom.
So I told him thats what I want but look at her hair and tell me what you think, and if its uneven or what. He pulled up a lyer from the front and one from the back and said the back layer is shorter than the front which I could see and it was noticeable. The look on his face let me know. I told him I've seen your work and do what you can I trust you.
On the phone I was quote $25 for a cut.
He gets to work and finishes. Then I hear him ask dd14 ..Do you want me to blow dry your hair? DD said Yes.
I'm thinking oh heck how much is this going to cost me. Plus he washed her hair. He blow drys her hair using a big huge round brush. It was smoothing the hair and it was looking good. The customer next to dd told her she had beautiful hair. DD's hair was looking good before it was even finished. All he did was blow dry it. no flat iron or curling iron and dd's hair looked GREAT!!!!!!! Her hair even looked longer. the shortest layer that I was worried about was no wear to be found. the new shortest layer was actually longer. I was so happy for dd but also jealous that I have to wait to get my uneven choppy hair fixed-lol!
So its time to pay and I'm thinking oh boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked how much is the total. He's response is "oh its $25"
in my head i'm screaming OMG $25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If i had gone anywhere else I would have paid major $$$$$
He's the owner of his own shop and I know many say you dont tip the owner but I must say I have never been so happy to tip someone-lol! He really deserve much more than what he charged.
DD went to school today and everyone was asking her what she did to her hair ( she usually flat irons it but it had more body today, she woke up and just ran her fingers through it cuz it still looked good ). She just said she got it cut . She got many compliments even from boys-lol! I told her , that her hair looked totally different with body and it looked so healthy and bouncy and that it looked darker like she colored it.
Tonight she washed it and she couldnt get that smooth look. Luckily I bought a huge round brush and tried doing her hair but I need to buy the brush the stylist used. The brush I bought from walmart doesnt have the opening on the end so the heat doesnt go through but it look good but not perfect . I told her the shining spray he used might be something we need to order to finsh it off.
I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to try this stylist. Looking at dd's layers were like being in layer heaven I havent seen layers like that since I use to go to the expensive salon ( I have thick wavy hair)
End of update #1
I'll be back to tell about my cut and color.
---------------------------------------
I'm posting here because it includes budget
I have long layered hair. My hair is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches past where i buckle my bra. the shortest layer is suppose to be at my shouldars but I'm finding several shorter ones.
I've been with my current hair stylist for about 2 years. When I started going to her I was happy. Three hair
cuts ago I noticed a change in my hair and my dd's we both have the layers but dd's a lil shorter. Well we got home wash our hair dried it, flat ironed it . DD comes in all panic and says look at my hair it all choppy and uneven. I tell her maybe its because we part it to the side so the layers are shorter. It did look weird
I do my hair and the same thing. My thought it maybe because she parted it in the middle and we part our hair to the side thats why the difference. I curl my hair so its not noticeable but I cant wear my hair stright because it look choppy and uneven.
I let it go.
Next visit I tell her and she says thats weird humm. I'm glad you told me because I hope i didnt do that to anyone else. I tell her well it also happened to my dd too. Then she says now that you mention it I had someone else(relative) tell me the same thing but i didnt think anything of it.
So i tell her I dont want it choppy, I part my hair to the side so keep that in mind. She cut my hair and dd's hair and it was better but still choppy and lil weird uneven looking. I've also noticed that I have a difficult time styling my hair. It drives me crazy and looking at other pictures from other stylist it doesnt look good.
My question is, are there different types of layers? I want nice layers that if i wear my hair stright it looks nice. How can i explain this.
Thinking back to my previous stylist( she quit and got a higher paying job) she would cut my hair and dd's hair the same. DDs hair from the back looked like it wasnt layered unless I pulled pieces to curl it then the layers would sperate so is that a blended layer? my hair was the same and when i curled just the tips it looked so pretty and if i curled more it just flowed nice
The current person i go to is more affordable for dd and I $15 each piece plus tip(same price and the one that quit and she did an awesome job)
- how do i explain it to her or do i give up go somewhere else?
Another hair stylist he was awesome but expensive. I stop going to him because everytime I went he would change the price and try charging me more. Last draw was he charged me the amount as If I were getting a cut and color but i only got a color and he said oh well i had to use more dye.
I'm tempted to go back but at $25 each plus tip its gonna be more $$ . DD and I do like the current person but my hair is driving me nuts. If she cut it like in the beginning then I'd stay
