For Grandma's: What's your "name"?

My mother is Nana and my grandmother is Mama E. O. pronounced MawMaw The E.O. was my grandfathers name. Not sure why we didn't call her by her name. :confused3 I'm not the oldest, so I have not a clue.

My great grandmothers were called Grandma + first name and my great greats were Grandma + last name.

My Grandson calls me "Grandma Holly" which I think is a mouthful. My granddaughter is still too young to say any version of it. I think they call the other grandmother by name as she doesn't want to be called Grandma.

I'm just happy to have grandchildren and that they call me! Of course I tell my son that I gave birth to him in a previous lifetime as I'm just not old enough. But grandchildren - who cares about being old - they're so cool to have!

chiming in again. My boss's grandchild calls her G-Mom. She felt too young to be a grandma so G-mom it is. I think it's really cute

Hi
My DGD (4) calls me Nonie. But recently she's been calling me Grandmom. I didn't really want Grandmom, since my mother is Grandmom to my kids, and my mother-in-law who's passed away was Mom Mom to my kids. But I told her to call me whatever she wants to, and 99% of the time, she'll call me Nonie. You'll really enjoy being a grandmother. It's the best!!:goodvibes Also, my DGD calls my husband Poppy and calls my mother, GG.

I had:
Mawmaw
Granny
Nan

My kids have:
Nan
Mommee

DH had
M-May

My friends are:
GranAnn
Lala
Honey

I would like to be called:
Juju

My grandfather was Grandpop and my grandmother is Grandmom. She does not want to be "Granny". Says is makes her sound old, LOL!

When I shop for greeting cards for her, I noticed that they almost never have cards for "GrandMOM". It's always "GrandMOTHER" or "GrandMA".

My grandparents are Maw-maw and Paw-paw (we're from Alabama). One of my cousin's calls her grandmother on the other side Miss Anne, because any variation of grandmother made her feel old. My brother's fiancee called her grandfather Honey because that was what she always heard her grandmother call him.

Not a grandma name, but all these cute stories reminded me of this one: when my DD8 was little, she used to be afraid of my brother for some reason. Maybe it was because he's so tall (6'4") or because he talks really loud, but she would not look at him or say his name. Whenever we would ask her what his name is, she would say, "I don't know."

Until she was about 5, she never called him Uncle Steve, it was always Uncle Idontknow!

Let them decide! DD called my mom "Nanny" (so now DS does too). And my mother wouldn't have it any other way.

DMiL insisted that the kids call her "Grandmother." Neither could say it for a while, so they ended up calling her by her first name until they could!

My mom's parents were Grandma or Gram and Grandpop. My Dad's parents are Mema and Grandpa. Everyone calls them that. I don't think DH knows what their first names are. Well, he knows my grandfather's since DS has it as a middle name but that's about it. LOL.

My mom said she wanted to be Grandma and she is. Either Grandma or Grandma Kathy which drives her nuts. DD started saying that because that's how MIL refers to my mom.

MIL didn't get a choice. She was mean to me when we told her I was pregnant. After oldest DD was born she wanted to be Grandma but my mom is so nope, not having two. DD called her Mamoo once and I glommed on to it. "Oh, isn't that adorable, she gave you a nickname, etc......" and kept repeating it to DD so now all three grandkids call her that and so do other members of the family ;) My Dad died before my kids were born so no grandparent name, and DH's Dad is/was Papa.

When I'm a grandparent I hope to either be Gram or whatever other cute thing the kids come up with. My kids call me Honey, that would be fine too.

I think my mom probably has the strangest name-my daughter started out callng her gei gei then it became Goo Goo-well that morphed into Gooey before she was done and that is where it stands-Gooey or just plain old Goo at times...And Uncle Michael has always been Muk Muk-she tried to say Uncloe Mike when she was little and it would come out as Muk Muk and that is what it still is-Muk Muk or Mucker at times...

Not sure about my mom yet but my MIL will be yaya, which is Greek.

My mom is "Grandma" and DH's mom is "Grandma Bonnie".

When my oldest was little she called my mom, Memo.

If my dd's have kids, they can call me Grandma.;)

I just had grandma and grandpa

My son has:

My parents-- Granny and Papa
DH's Mom--- Mimi
2 great grandmas- Gigi & Gigi

My DGD calls me Nana, calls my DH Pa, my MIL meme and my Mom was Memere.

DH did not want to be Grandpa, but the little one was trying to say it and bellowed out "PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA". It stuck.

Now we have no other identity to most. We are Nana and Pa to all of her school. teachers and kids and coaches :confused3. Gosh I love it!

Mine were Grandma (dad's mother) and Grampy (mom's father). Only 2 who were living when I was born.

DH's were Grandma Barb, Grandpa Shumaker, Grandmother, and Dad Dad.

DD calls my parents Grammy and Grampy, and the ILs are Grandma and GrandDaddy. Her great-grandmother is Great Grandma.

I have always liked Nana- that would be fine with me when I become a grandmother. DH would like to be called Dad Dad like he called his grandfather.

To DGD 4, I'm "Gramma", and DH is "Gran-daddee." DH was always very determined to be GranDad, just like his grandfather. However, DGD had a hard time saying it, so he became "dee-dah" for a while, which eventually morphed into "Gran-daddee". He's so besotted, he'd let her call him pretty much anything!

Due to divorce and remarriage, our kids have four sets of grandparents.

Prior to our having kids, our nephew on the IL side called MIL "Dodo" (pronounced "doo-doo"), which I didn't particularly care for but is a nickname from MIL's childhood.

I preferred Grandma Firstname and Grampa Firstname. My mom and her husband are Grandma Lorna and Grampa Mick and my dad and his wife are Grampa Mark and Grandma Diana.

FIL and StepMIL were already Nana and Pop-pop for the neices and nephews and that's what my kids call them. StepFIL was already Poppa Ron and that's what my kids call him. We started off with DS calling MIL Grandma (her name is also Diana, so Grandma Diana wasn't going to work) and when we moved closer to the nephews that got changed to Grandma Dodo. (MIL admitted that it was actually nice to get called "Grandma" because no one had ever called her that before.)

The kids are pretty good at coming up with nicknames, if they're necessary. I still prefer Grandma Firstname and Grampa Firstname... it delineates the relationship and there's no confusion about whom you're discussing. If I ask DS5 if he wants to talk on the phone to "Grandma", DS5 will usually ask "Grandma Lorna or Grandma Dodo?" (he's closest to those two grandparents).

Thanks for sharing all these great names! A lot of them I'd never thought of, especially the French, Greek, etc.

I guess I'll share the ones in my family too:

My grandparents were Mamaw & Papaw, Grandmother & Granddaddy.

Great grandparents: Mother Simpie (last name Simpson) & Paw Fred; Grandmaw Evie (first name)

DH grandparents: Mamaw & Papaw; Granny

My parents: Grandmommy (haven't seen this one yet) & Granddaddy (step dad) & Grampaw (my dad)

DH parents: Mamaw & Papaw - I see a trend here! LOL (Yes, I'm from Alabama too)

Other relatives are: MiMi, Gan, Momsie, Grace Mom

My friends are:
GranAnn
Lala
Honey

I would like to be called:
Juju

I love Honey!

My daughter-in-law's Mom is Darlene, and she was considering "Darling" which I love! But, she ended up going with "Dar Dar" (they already have a grandchild).

Is your name Judy or something that starts with "Ju"?

My name is Lisa and my DH calls me "Li Li" (Lee Lee) sometimes. How does that sound for a grandma?
