Hi all - I have a strange question which I hope someone can give me advice for.

I wear reading glasses, and I find I need them to use my camera, ( ) which is fine whilst inside, but when I am outside I am having real problems. I have to wear sunglasses :cool2: (glare/bright sun really hurts my eyes). So my actual question is - what do you do if you are in this situation? Do you have graduated lenses, prescription sunglasses, or just muddle through??!! (I don't need glasses for distance vision, only reading.)

I'm not sure which way to go, but I'd like to have something in place before I leave for WDW, and I figured someone here must be in a similar situation!!:confused3

Thanks for your help :yay:

I wear prescription sunglasses, I have a pair of polorized Oakleys I wear, and I carry my regular glasses so i can switch between them as need for going in and out of building etc...

The diopter adjustment is a nice feature, but it will depend on how much yours can handle. I have such a high prescription that my adjustment can't help me at all.

I have regular glasses and prescription sunglasses, so I end up switching bak and forth depending on the lighting. It's kind of a pain, but unless I'm wearing my contacts I don't have much of a choice.

What about prescription lens that have the self darkening lenses. It might be an extra cost but everybody I ever knew that had them, loved them. I don't wear reading glasses but can't go without sunglasses. They have a small prescription in them. I always leave them on with the camera, no big deal. It honestly is hard for me to see my shutter speed and aperture value at the bottom of the sight window but you can always look at the back of the camera to adjust those. Just don't do like I do and always forget to adjust your ISO from inside to out.

I tried the graduated lenses, the lenses that darken when they hit the sunlight, and clip on sunglasses. The one solution I didn't try was prescription sunglasses (probably best since I tend to loose sunglasses).

By far my favorite were the clip ons. I got them from my optometrist so they were sized perfectly for my glasses and didn't really look like clip ons as a result.

Which will likely work for you if you only need reading glasses. For myself, I need "all the time or I will run into things" glasses, so I have my regular glasses and perscription sunglasses. I haven't had any problems with the sunglasses seeing thhrough the viewfinder of my XTI. I see from your signature you have an S3 which has a dioptor (I know my S1 had one, and I'm pretty sure the S3 has one too), but you also have the option of your LCD screen which has the swivel mount which is very usuable even under harsh lighting conditions.

Thanks everyone for your help! I knew you would come through!!

Kevin - I didn't know this existed (:confused3 ), but I found it and adjusted it just now. Now I will have to go outside and see how that works! Thanks heaps.

This is probably what I'll try - I feel such a goose all the time taking off sunglasses, putting on reading glasses, then I can't see at all for the glare!!! Oh the hazards of aging..!!

Thanks again everyone.

i don't remember what camera you have op but i quoted this as i have transition lenses and sometimes have a terrible time seeing the lcd screen outside ( canon xt) even at it's brightest.i think they must get to dark or something in bright outside light.now i have to take the glasses off and then can't read the lcd so i have to go from memory...so next pair will not be transition lenses even though i love them otherwise( except that they don't darken in the car when you are driving). before i got these lenses i wore the under $20 polarized clip ons that matched my frame shape from wallymart (since my perscription cost 3 legs and 2 arms for sunglasses) and liked them ok.... they weren't that nerdish looking since they match the glasses and i could still read the lcd with them
