for glasses wearers, how do they hold up on rides?

My daughter is 12 and she has to wear glasses all the time now. She doesn't want to bring her case or her purse if she doesn't have to. She goes on all the rides. Is there any rides that would cause her glasses to fall off? I know some are rough, we've been many times, but we don't know if glasses would fall off on any of them. We'll be at all 4 parks. Is there any rides where she should take them off on?

DS10 wears glasses and he takes them off on all of the thrill rides. I put them in my purse - we don't bring his case, I just fold his glasses and tuck them in my purse until the ride is over.

Do this test ..

Have her stand up -- then look down .. then shake her head.
Are they still on?
If not -- get a strap ...

Especially for younger kids, they stresses of daily wear can play havok on the arms/hinge and loosen them up quite a bit..

Of course, there is only ONE ride in the entire park where this may matter -- and that is of course, RnRc.. i have lost many sunglasses on that ride...

and don't trust the "drop them down the front of your shirt" trick -- it doesn't work with negative Gs.

:yay:

I wear a cord that can be cinched up for rougher rides. Its not really needed though but I just feel better knowing its there and can enjoy the ride. I also don't like the rush of air in my face.

One ride type that I know you can lose your glasses on is Kai River Rapids. My mother lost a pair of sun glasses on a similar ride when they were just washed off her face.

Thanks for your replies! I'm taking a tiny purse, so i'm afraid I might crush them..lol. Would the straps that they sell at disney for the sunglasses fit her glasses? Or do they have some at disney for regular glasses? I'm not sure she'd want a strap, but if it's from disney she might..lol.

Glasses are glasses so they should work. I'm sure they have ones that don't look like the black athletic strap style. More like some thing you put on reading or sun glasses so you can take them on and off and let them hang around your neck.

Go to any optical shop and they should have good straps for glasses. We got a couple of different types in a Walmart optical dispensary. I like one type better, but my DH prefers another.

I've been on them all and the only ride that seems to move them at all is Test Track when the car is at top speed. Then I think I feel the wind hit my face and push up my glasses just a little. I've never waited long enough to find out if they actually would lift off before I just reached up and lightly held them in place.

It would totally ruin a ride for me if I had to look at it all blurry. The suggestion for the strap is a particularly good one.

Ds and I both wear glasses all the time, the only concern I had was test track because my glasses are a little loose and RnRC. I just held them on test track, I don't remember holding them on rnrc but maybe I did because I didn't lose them. Ds had no problems.

Neither of us could enjoy the rides with them off, our eyes are bad :).

I had more concerns on rides at BG and seaworld and I had to take them off more or hold on to them.

My friend had an expensive pair of sunglasses fly off his face on Space Mountain. I took my prescription glasses off for that one, because I figured there wasn't as much to see anyway.

I only find the need to take them off on Rock n' Roller Coaster, because you go upside down. Otherwise, my glasses have been fine on all of the other rides. :goodvibes

I am just always paranoid because if I lose my glasses I'm screwed, so I take them off on almost everything that has a drop, or goes super fast. TT, BMTRR, RNRC, ToT, Space, Splash, Everest LOL

Get a strap. She can put it on in the morning and she'll never even know it's there. My daughter has a foamy-stretch one from Cedar Point that does't hang down in the back or anything, and once she puts it on you can barely tell it's there.

She hates not being able to see on a ride (her vision is awful) and the strap is the perfect solution.

(Space Mountain doesn't go upside down but I've nearly lost lanyards on it, I wouldn't trust glasses, either.)

Could you get her contacts???? Riding Disney attractions with glasses, holding glasses, putting the glasses in the ride pouch or holding the cord so they don't blow away is a BIG pain! The day I got lasik is the day I truly was able to experience the attractions without the paranoia of losing my glasses. Since she's only 12 and too young for lasik . . .

My opinion . . . get her contacts! :goodvibes

I have ridden every Disney ride with my glasses and have never had a problem.

no problem on ANY coaster there, including RNR. If they fit her at all well she won't have a problem. you could get a strap just for the couple coasters if it would make you feel better but she really shouldn't have a problem.

I have gone on everything wearing glasses also. The first few times on RnRc I was nervous and wore a glasses strap, but later realized there was no danger at all.

I agree with the pp who advised of the simple test of having her look down and shake her head, as long as the glasses are well-adjusted there shouldn't be a problem.

Like pp's have said, if I can't wear my glasses on something there's really no point in riding, I like to be able to see! :rotfl:

I wear glasses and I never took them off. But I didn't ride RnRC. But I did ride all the other thrill rides and they never moved or anything. I did have to take off my Minnie ears a couple of times tho .

I agree with the PPs that recommended the "looking down" test.
