We are planning on going to Disney NYE 2009, the last time we went and wanted to use DVC was for NY 2000 but they were doing a lottery then, so we stayed at ASM then went to DVC on NY Day.
So my questions are, When did you book it? Was it hard to get? Did you end up on a waitlist? and how many points did you pay a night?

We went 2 years ago but stayed at the Swan for NYE then went to BWV on NY Day. This time we want to try and stay at DVC. BWV would be Great because we go to Epcot for NYE.

Thank You for your Help.

We had no problem booking NYE at our home resort, OKW. I called right at the 11-month mark to book it...but then MS lost the reservation! I was beyond upset (it was now three weeks later!) but had absolutely no problem rebooking. They didn't restore my reservation as there was still availability for my dates/room size.

IMHO, New Year's Eve night is the most difficult night of the year to book a DVC unit. The smaller DVC resorts (VWL, BCV & BWV) are especially difficult and are often full before the 7 month window even opens.

If you plan to visit over New Year's Eve, plan to call as soon as your 11 month window opens, no matter which DVC resort you call home.

Good luck!

We booked for this year @ SSR our home resort and booked @ the 11 month window. I thought I might have to try it day by day for each day but was able to book it all at once. We will be there from Dec. 27th - Jan. 3rd can't wait.

My daughters typically book pretty late, and one of them has had waitlist success the last two years for NYE. In 2006, she booked OKW on 9/14 for 12/29 & 30 and waitlisted successfully for 12/31. In 2007, she successfully waitlisted at SSR for NYE, but I can't find the details of that stay. It seems to me it was partially booked and waitlisted somewhat earlier than the 2006 trip, but I'm sure it was within the 7-month window.

I agree with Carol that it's the single most difficult night to get, but it's not impossible.

Thanks everyone. Are the points much higher. I know I can look at my book but we are in the middle of moving so all my things are in storage.

At the 11 month mark I'll try and book SSR and at the 7 month mark I'll see if BWV has anything.
Worst case if we can't get DVC we will try the Swan again.

Don't need your book. :) There's a link to the points charts for the DVC Resorts at the top of the Forum.

Good plan to book SSR and then try BWV at 7 months. While it's true that some people have luck with waitlists and booking later, it's not something you can count on. I always recommend a back up plan if you are going to visit at that time of the year, especially if you need to make airline and other non-refundable reservations in advance.

Good luck with the move.

Christmas/NYE week is the highest points of the year Premiere Season. Starting Jan. 1, you have the lowest points of the year. It's best to book at 11 months and cancel if your plans change. It can be difficult to book later in the year (checkout the December waitlist thread). The actual NYE is especially tricky since many local people come spend the day/night at WDW -- I know I would if I lived in the area! Next year it's a Thursday night so I'm sure it'll be a popular long-weekend option.

I booked NYE at BCV for 2008. I called day-by-day at 9am, had virtually no wait on the phone, and got what I wanted without any problem. I've done this for several years now, booking either BCV or BWV standard.

In the future, with the new booking policy, I very much doubt I'll have the same success. I never thought day-by-day booking was a misuse of the system, but I'm not comfortable with the suggested new way of 'walking' a reservation, and I'm fairly confident that NYE will be long gone before I will have the opportunity to call for a reservation. So NYE 2008 will likely be my last NYE at WDW.

Please don't tell me it'll be all over for NYE with the new booking. I had to give up a 2BR-BWV and and a standard studio for this past NYE due to 3 kids getting engaged in 07 (after I made the ressies) and getting married in 08!!!! My dream and reward is to be there for NYE 2009.

We booked at 11 months for OKW 12/28-1/3. We are thinking of doing NYE at HS--Disney magic but maybe a tad less crowded than MK. We'll see...

What happened in the past is probably not a good gauge for 2009.

With the new “system” if you are starting your vacation 7 days ahead of new years you may be OK but if you are starting on NYE (or shortly before) then I would think that your chances has diminished to a small percentage of what it would have been before.
