I'm just curious......do other people find that their male cats are more affectionate than their females?

We've had many cats over the years. Right now we have four -- two males and two females (all fixed). The two males are SO sweet and will get right in your face for some lovin'. The females are friendly enough but much more independent and at times just plain stand-off-ish.

As I thought back over the years, all my memories of the really friendly, cuddly cats, they were the males.

So, just wondering if there's something to that or if we've just had an odd experience!

.

We have always had female cats and they have been so lovable - our cat now is a female and she is always looking for some loving! And she will get right in your face also so you can pet her -

My own cats have always been females..we lost our last several years ago. They were always very loving. Friends told me their males were more so. I have been fostering for about 6 years now and have about 300 plus change kittens and without a doubt, the males have been more loving than the females. Coincidence? I don't know.

Over the years I have had four indoor cats.

1. Female - not affectionate at all after getting out of the kitten stage.
2. Male - same as above.
3. Female - Very affectionate
4. Female - the one I have now is even more affectionate than the previous female that I had. All of my indoor cats have been spayed/neutered.

We have had many of both genders over the years. Right now we have 2 males and 1 female. The female is cuddly only when she wants to be. When she is tired of it, she lets you know it. The males are always willing to cuddle. Actually, when we were down to just one cat (the current female), I was saying to my kids I wish we had a cuddly cat. Then 2 males came into our family from DD's friend who couldn't keep them anymore. They certainly filled my request!

The other females we have had were like our current one - cuddling was on their terms.

I remember when I found my first male cat. I asked a friend of mine who had 4 male cats and asked her about them.

She said they're totally USELESS, love lumps!:lmao:

I so agree.

I've owned cats for 30 years and have never had two cats that were at all alike. The only positive I have is the girls are tough, smart thinking hunters, and the boys are adorable, useless, love LUMPS. :cloud9:

I have 5 now, two boys and 3 girls and I love them all! :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat:

We have 2 boys and 3 girls. The girls are loving on their terms. The boys are so sweet and needy. My oldest boy had to be bottle fed as a baby and he still cuddles and nurses on my fingers. He's 6 and about 18 lbs now.

Everyone I know who does cat rescue agrees that males are much sweeter than females. However, females have the diva thing going on and are much more their own 'person' so to speak, so really, both have their pluses.

If I could only have one cat, it would be a male. Two cats, and I'd have either a male-female combo or two males that are buddies.

Ive had lover cats who are female and male. Right now its my male who is the most affectionate. Hes also the one who fallows me like a dog all night. In the mornings its my females that must love on me.

I have to agree that male kitties are more lovey than females. I have only had 1 female cat and she was more on her own then lovey. My sister has had a lot of cats and the females keep more to themselves and the males want more attention. I have 4 males and they all get along great with each other. I only want male cats now - they all love their mommy so much - can't have a diva competing with me!! LOL

I have a male and a female; both fixed adults. The male is more needy all the time; the female keeps a little more distance until I lay down in bed at night. That's her signal - if I'm in bed, she is rubbing all over me and super needy.

Kind of weird though!

Our male cat likes his alone time (is a little scaredy cat sometimes) but definitely seeks us out more than the female. However, both are very lovey and enjoy cuddling

My male cat is more affectionate with humans than any of the females. He's a big love-bunny, who wants nothing more than to have his belly rubbed.

Unfortunately he's also a LOT more territorial.

We have my mom's cat staying with us for a couple weeks, and after trying to get them to accept each other for six days, we finally had to lock her up in one of the bedrooms for her own safety.

My male cat was literally out for her blood, attacking her any chance he got. He was also standing guard over the food and refusing to let her eat. AND then he peed on her. That was the last straw. Our female cat just stood by with this look on her face like, "Yeah, this is entertaining!"

Not cool. :sad2:

My first cat was female and she was loving; but not a mush. I have 3 males now and they are all different. One loves hugs and kisses and sleeps in bed with us on my pillow, the other loves affection on his terms and the third would rather bite your hand than be pet. He loves to rub up against our legs and get a big kiss once in a while; but thats all the affection he gives.

I volunteer at a cat rescue and I dont see any difference between the males and females, affection wise. It just depends on the cat. :)

We have male cats, simply because when we went to get the kitten, there was only a male cat left. He is now 18 months; we also have a 5 month old male kitten.

The older cat is affectionate in that he likes to be stroked. He doesn't like to sit on your lap when there's anyone looking, but if you're alone he will come for a cuddle :lovestruc. He likes to spend a lot of time outside and loves it if we're out there with him (he doesn't understand why humans live indoors).

The kitten isn't allowed outside yet (vaccines need to be finished and he needs to be neutered & micro-chipped) but we will give him the option in a couple of months. Right now he's a cuddly lap-cat who loves to sit on you, next to you etc. If he wants to be stroked he will give you NO choice :rotfl:

We have cats who like people; one likes to receive more affection than the other but both are 'people cats'. I know people say that male cats can be less affectionate than females but I think it's down to the cat rather than anything else.

I voted yes that male cats were more affectionate but..

I had a wonderful female kitty who always wanted to be with me. She wanted to be in the room, she followed me everywhere, etc. But, she didn't like to be pet or held. That being said, she was the sweetest cat as she truly was everywhere I was.

Her brother was a big furball and purred as loud as an engine. He use to lay in my arms when he was a baby and just sleep and purr and sleep and purr. When he got older, he still purred a ton and liked to be pet but didn't want to be held much anymore.

I think it just truly depends on the cat's personality. :)

In general males are more affectionate than females, but as with all life there are exceptions.

We currently have two females and while both are affectionate, one is very much so while the other is only affectionate on her terms (though she is never unfriendly or anything, she just isn't as "touchy-feely").

I lived with a roommate and her male cat worshipped the ground I walked on (more so than her!)

However ... Fergie is a female and she loves me too. OTOH, I am the only person there so maybe she feels she should be nice because I'm the one who can operate the can opener. Diana was very attached to me as well.

I think it depends on the cat.

My most loving cat was my boy Billy. He was all I ever hoped for in a cat! I carried him around the house and refered to him as my hairy purse!

We have had 10+ cats (we have five right now all girls) and Billy was the most affectionate loving animal I have ever been gifted to be with.

The girls now can be loving but always on their terms. Billy was on me as soon as I came through the door. It will be 5 years next month since he died and I still miss him very much and always will.

peace.
Colleen
