For Cat Lovers....

I think male cats are more mellow and easygoing, which makes them seem more affectionate.

We have a female cat who is a super sweet lap kitty.... but only when she wants to be. If you pick her up or try to pet her when she wants to be left alone, then watch out!

Our male isn't quite as much of a lap kitty, but will tolerate being picked up and cuddled and just doesn't seem quite as grumpy.

I've only had female cats, but mine are all lovers.

The youngest one (Sophie) will follow me around and jump in my lap as soon as I sit down.

She will also let you know she wants some love by climbing on you and rubbing her nose against your cheek. She does that to me and DD.

Our other "old lady" kitty (Bailey) is more my DH's cat. It's quite amusing how she adores him ~ a man that grew up on a farm where cats were not pets.

She will lay on mine and DH's chest/lap or on our legs. Both kitties love to snuggle with the kids.

I've been very lucky in that I've never had a grumpy or standoffish cat.

ETA: I recently lost our 3rd kitty, but she was my kitty. She could take or leave everyone else. lol The only person she was concerned with was me, but she was still affectionate with me.

i have heard male cats are typically more affectionate but my dad's female cat is so lovey dovey. she always wants attention and loves being around people

We have had several cats through the years, and each one was their own "person"!

The most loving, super-affectionate cat we ever had was a male. He was also an only cat for most of his life, so he might have been affected by that. He has been gone for over 2 years now, and I still miss him every day.

We have 2 females and 1 male right now- none of them are lap cats, but 2 of them are always within sight of me, either within a couple feet, or at the farthest, across the room. Lily, the younger female, is pretty touchy-feely- she is up on the computer desk, demanding pets inbetween every word typed. The older female, GiGi, is more reserved, and likes her alone time. She spends about half her time by herself in one of her many "kitty spots" and about half in the same room as us.

Depends on the cat and how you treat them also. Have had male and female. Some rescued and others from neighbors. My male was only friendly friendly to a couple others besides me and my female I have now loves everyone but the vet.
