Twice on the carriage ride from the Abby to the Palace.. William saluted and Kate bowed her head... what were they saluting??

They certainly did it when they passed the Cenotaph (war memorial) in the Mall. William and Harry also saluted it as they went past in the car before the ceremony.

I saw footage of salutes on the way into the palace & a photo of a salute coming out of the palace also. I wondered if they were saluting the royal flag over the palace which means the monarch is in residence?

The other was a military salute. They passed some regiment who saluted them, Wills in turn as a military officer saluted back though as a royal he could have just lifted his hand or nodded his head, Kate bowed her head to acknowledge the honor.

If you notice when people bow or curtsey to the Queen, she slightly bows her head in acknowlegment, when you watched Kate she was watching William out of the corner of her eye, when he saluted she bowed her head, when he dropped the salute she lifted her head.

The announcer talked how on the way to the church Kate recieved no salutes but on the way back she did as she is now a Royal and entitled to the honor from the military.

I was DVR'd BBC America and NBC, I think I was watching BBC at that point, since they really did seem to have a handle on everything and were explaining all the pomp and ceremony. Very British announcers.

I switched over to NBC for the Balcony...they had a countdown clock to the kiss Leave it to the Yanks....
