Is coleslaw legal?

(couldn't find the answer to this anywhere and figured someone here would know! TIA!)

Probably NOT unless it is homemade and you know exactly what is in it. Most coleslaws have sugar in the dressing. Cabbage and full fat mayo are legal --- you could add some splenda and make your own.

Yeah, that is what I thought, Jody.

DH was trying to be helpful by getting me legal items to eat and bought this at the deli counter last night -- I hate to tell him that we will have to throw it out since he and the kids don't eat coleslaw, and I can't. :( I guess I can bring it into work and see if anyone here will want it.

Thanks, Jody.

Couldn't you just rinse it?? Put it in a colander and rinse off the worst of the dressing and then make a lovely low carb dressing for it.

I don't have a recipe handy but I'm sure there's one somewhere.

I hate to see all those veggies go to waste....especially when DH was trying so hard to be nice....

Doreen, luckily it was just 1/4 pound of coleslaw -- he erred on the side of caution and didn't buy too much of it, thank goodness. I hate to waste food having come from a family with 9 kids, its something that I try never to do.

I could probaby rinse it, but I'm thinking one of these skinny minnie types here at the office would like it, so I'm going to bring it in. I think I will look around for a low carb way of making coleslaw though, I love the stuff!

:teeth: Yeah, I agree that a 1/4 pound isn't worth all the trouble! I had visions of one of those big 2 pound containers going into the trash! Good for DH for trying and good for you for eating healthy!! :sunny:

I'm happy to hear that you are giving low carb a try Judi! Have you gotten thru that yucky feeling period yet? Did you see my list of favorite links? If not, PM me and I'll see that you get them. LOTS of resources for low carb eating and I'm sure you could find a coleslaw recipe among them.

I buy "broccoli slaw" mix (in the produce section by the cole slaw mix) and add real mayo, a little vinegar, and Splenda! It's really yummy!

Watch your cabbage intake during induction. There are more carbs in it than in lettuce. Cabbage has 1.1 net g carbs per 1/2 cup and romaine has .4 net g carbs per 1 cup.

The book explains what to do to make the substitution during induction for your vegetable carbs.

I buy the bagged cole slaw in the produce dept, add regular mayo, some grated onion, pepper, salt if needed, and sprinkle on a little splenda. I have a little of this almost every evening with dinner. I love it too! It only takes a couple of minutes.
