For April - May Travelers

Were going the last week in may. I don't care how busy are crazy. We'll deal with it. We have waited way to long for this. As long as were there and not here I can deal with anything. I hope I didn't just jinx myself :)

Maybe the early May 'secret' is out of the bag now?

I know I've been telling people that May is one of the best times to visit for years now, We'll have to start telling people it's very busy and the weather is dreadful and all the rides are in rehab from now on... :rolleyes1

Paul.

Well, that's the last time I ever try to offer advice around here, I'm just telling you what I was told, face to face, not by my cousins brothers fathers nephew. I'm just not sure what her name was, as that was the first and last time I met her.

I hope she's wrong, I was just trying to give a heads up. Never again.

Jeez. Some of you DISers can be nasty when you hear something you don't want to hear. I think it's time for me to move on.....

I agree with alot of the posters- most people arent even aware of WHEN the celebration starts, on top of that, there are kids still in school during most of May, I would say that the summer months may be heavier because of it and possibly the first week of May with the kick off. Dont let what anyone says scare you off in going, its Disney, cant get better than that:)

I agree!! :goodvibes

Let's play nice!!!! Here's a little reminder of some of the DIS guidelines.

3. NO FIGHTING: Several Internet news groups are marred by the actions of a few selfish people who turn an otherwise positive forum into a soap box for their anger issues. Internet newsgroups are not moderated, and therefore, anything goes. These boards are moderated in an effort to keep the discussions appropriate to the topic at hand. Those who feel they can not abide by these rules are welcome to read the posts on the board, and respond via email to the person who posted the message. Messages that are argumentative or sarcastic in nature will be deleted without discussion.

And from the WMs:
We do not believe in censorship, and open discussions about various issues is encouraged. We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others. Once a discussion begins to step over that line, the post in question will be deleted. In extreme cases, individuals who are not able to conduct themselves as responsible group members will be asked not to return.

If you have questions or issues regarding this, please feel free to direct them to the webmaster at webmaster@wdwinfo.com

We were at WDW the first weekend in May last year and it was pretty nice, but more crowded than in previous trips I've made in May.I'm beginning to think there isn't a time when WDW is NOT crowded! OY!
I do think the first couple weeks of this "Celebration" will see more people there but who knows! :confused3

The park hours are not consistent with that type of expectation.

And, why would it be so busy in April before the celebration kicks off?

That said I do think it will be more crowded than usual the first week in May, and might not choose that time for a first ever or once in a lifetime Disney trip.

However, since we have gone alot we have more relaxed expectations on getting things done. I did make sure that we have ps's for every meal especially on the 5th.

I think it will be so awesome to be a part of the kickoff of this celebration!

For anything we really want to get done there is always fastpass.

And, even on the 4th of July you could walk on rides in the hour and a half before the park closed. (Granted the park closed at 2 am).

Still it was nice of the poster to share what she heard, and of course for others to politely show why it may be less than completely accurate.

I'd like to thank the OP for the heads up, there's also a lot of evidence to back up his contention that May will be busier than usual. I've been going in May the last 5 yrs (this year 5/7-5/14 at POP), and I never remember Mgm being open til 9 every night during this time. If you check offsite rates via Hotel Kingdom and others, rates are considerably higher than previous yrs.; if you look at winning bids on the priceline/hotwire boards you'll see they're way up too. Thank goodness for EMHs.

Since I booked the last week of April, thinking it was a mod. time to go I have since found out that part of the North Eastern USA is off school that week. There are a lot of people going from this board that week. Which leads me to believe others not on this board are going also. :) Oh well, guess we'll have to deal with it. I have some touring plans of my own I hope will help with the crowds. :cool1:

I think the crowd level will reveal itself to us as the time gets closer. If we start seeing the hours change, especially MK, and WDW starts making the closings later and later, that will be a sure fire answer to our questions. Right now WDW is just now focusing on spring break and easter, but once those are over, they will be watching the crowd levels to see if they need to start extending the hours for late april and early may. Either way, it just doesn't matter, I'm convinced that there is no quiet or slow time anymore. We visit 5 times a year and have yet to encounter one, except October 2001. We'll be there and we'll be ready. I'm prepared to just relax around the pool if the crowds get crazy. Life's decisions should be so tough.

BTW, thank you to the OP, without rumors what else would be do to pass the time while waiting for the next trip. I have lots of WDW friends and when my resort friends start telling me that resorts are at capacity for the next couple of months (which they haven't told me yet), then I listen.

Well I certainly neever meant to hurt anyone's feelings, if I have. I guess the way it was orginally stated by the OP made me feel like I had to laugh it off. I have so many other "issues" going on in my life that I don't need to worry about how crowded it will be during my "relaxing" vacation.

I do appreciate the heads up, and am not sure if I had posted that before.
KevinM, don't leave the DIS! As you can see, there are TONS of really nice people vs. those who hurt your feelings. :grouphug: Stick around, ok?!?

Once again, I apologize if I hurt your feelings or stepped on your toes.

I just want to say thank -you to the OP!! I have been trying to get a "guestamate" on how the crowds will be around our visit the first week in May. It's always nice to have a bit of a heads up to what we can expect.

I'd rather go on my trip expecting huge crowds and arrive to be pleasantly surprised that they weren't as bad as I thought! So Thanks!! Please continue to pass along any tid-bits you may come along!! :earboy2:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:hourglass 58 days to go.....

I don't think anyone meant to be rude, but I think we tend to get a bit scared thinking there might be much bigger crowds than expected.

Here's hoping we all have decent weather and decent crowd-levels for our trips! :cool1:

 Bring It On!

I mean who cares about the crowds?? We'll be at WDW!! :cool1: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

If we managed Easter Week during the Millennium and 4th of July Week in 2002 we can handle anything at all! :sunny:

Hey, no real offense intended KevinM!!!! :teeth:

The 'friend of a friend' comments were just to good to pass up!!!

Seriously, n2mm is probably right. Sure, we think it may be busier than otherwise normal. But, I really have not heard anyone who is in a position to be in the know express worry.

Heck, I just made PS's for the first week of May... Got exactly the first things I asked for, no problem.

So, cheers everybody... We're going to Disney!! :cool1:

I want to thank the OP for the info because if I expect things not to be perfect then I am a much nicer person than if I had expected things to be better and then they aren't. (Did that make sense?) I had booked our vacation for the last week of April last year based ONLY on the fact that I thought crowds would be moderate. I didn't know anything about the celebration. I was bummed to read that the crowds might be bad but I prefer to live in reality! Now I can deal with that possibility instead of being rudely surprised.

I've done CHRISTMAS at MK! I can handle some "little" celebration!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

For over 30 years we have been there for many celebrations... WDW milestones... grand openings... including Epcot..
We always managed and were able to do all we wanted to do........

We have been there for New Years Eve where you were shoulder to shoulder in front of the castle and even then.........

you smiled... you laughed and it was STILL magical ~ :wizard:

Airfare is purchased, room is paid for, kids have been told. I'm not backing out just because there will be a few more people. Heck! This just might mean longer park hours and a chance to see the Carousel of Progress again. Besides that, any day at Disney is better than a day at home.

I must say I'm a little worried, I've got all my PS booked but I was expecting that the crowds would be low, we're arriving April 28 - May 4th , like how long should I expect to have to wait for rides?

Never thought I would say this but we really don't worry about that stuff now that we go without the kids. I thought it would be real lonely after they left the nest and did not go with us to WDW but its just the opposite. If a park or ride is too crowded, we go somewhere else. We are really enjoying ourselfs. Growds? Bring them on. There is soooo many thing to do at WDW outside the parks and when you don't have little one to worry about you tend to explore the resorts and other parts of the world that don't get that growded..smjj
