For anyone who has ever requested connecting rooms...

I'm in the midst of the age old dilemma of which resort to choose... and my big question mark surrounds the likelihood of getting connecting rooms at a moderate for our large family vs. a family suite. Our family was "guaranteed" connecting rooms based on the ages of our kids (I know... it's NEVER really guaranteed). It seems like so many of the comments I read are from families who DIDN'T get the connecting rooms they requested... I'm curious how common it really is to actually get or not get a family's request for connecting rooms. So, please help me out by posting whether or not you were granted your request for connecting rooms, the resort, any special circumstances, and how it was or wasn't resolved. Did Disney do anything to try and remedy the situation. THANKS!!

I guess we've been lucky, on several trips we always got connecting rooms when we requested it

We requested connecting rooms at ASM and had rooms that were right next to each other, but my kids were adults at that time.

We requested connecting rooms at BC CL and received them. This time we had young grandchildren so I am assuming that they do try to accommodate people with the younger kids versus adult kids.

We've gotten connecting rooms every time we've requested them. Once at Poly when we had 4 adults and 2 children, twice at GF with 2 adults, 1 child and once at BC with 2 adults and 1 child. I think we just got lucky. There was only one time when not getting the connecting rooms would have been difficult, but otherwise, if we hadn't gotten them, it wouldn't have been a vacation breaker. If you really, really want to be together, I would book a suite or villa that can accommodate everyone.

Three trips now I have not gotten connecting rooms when requested. But to be fair this last time it was me in one room, and 2 adults in the other. I haven't tried to get connecting rooms as a large family for a while. But connecting rooms are just a request, as Disney states on their web site.

All Disney will do to try and find you connecting rooms is offer to move you to a comparable resort, if one is available. Say you are at the Music but don't get connecting rooms. They can check the Sports and see if they have them for the dates you need, if you are willing to move. Otherwise they will let you change rooms if connecting rooms open up during your trip. Not getting connecting rooms is not something they will upgrade you free over, or compensate you for, as they are not a paid for or bookable room type.

We requested connecting rooms at POFQ when we went with our in-laws. They were going to babysit our kids a couple hours one night and we were hoping they could go to sleep as normal (our kids were 3 & 5 at the time). We were told there were no guarantees, but we got connecting rooms. It definitely made our kids happy.

We have requested connecting rooms twice and on both occasions we were given connecting rooms. We were at POFQ both times. One of those time we also requested to be close to the main building and we were given upgrade to a pool view for both rooms and they connected. We did travel at the end of August which was/is low season although I believe one year it was free dining so perhaps a bit busier. We had two separate reservations. On the reservations we had my family of 4 in one room, 2 adults, 2 children, the kids were both under 8, and my mom was in the other room. In reality with the connecting rooms we had the children alternate turns sleeping in grandmas room and we used both bathrooms as needed. And, during breaks we had one room as the quiet/nap room and one room for those who weren’t napping and wanted to read with lights or watch tv.

We are traveling again this August with practically the same crew except there are now two adults in my mom’s room. We are going to CBR.

We've requested and gotten connecting rooms on 3 trips:

Trip 1: Me, DH, DS18, DS16, DS5, DD4
Trip 2: Me, DH, DS 23, DS21, DS10, DD9, DD4
Trip 3: Me, DH, DS12, DD11, DD6

Trips #1 & 3 were during the 3rd week in June (busy time) and #2 was the week leading up to Memorial Day weekend. We stayed at Pop Century on each of those trips. We chose Pop because it has the highest number of connecting rooms of all the resorts and we wanted to increase our odds of getting connecting rooms. Not having connecting rooms wouldn't have been a big deal on trips 1 & 2 (though we *really* wanted connecting rooms). Trip #3 would have been challenging if we didn't have connecting rooms since we only had the "littles" with us on that trip. Fortunately we always got connecting rooms and they were always ready when we arrived at the resort around noon.

When we went to Disney in 2013, we had 4 of the "kids" with us (ages 24, 14, 13, & 8) and we decided to stay in a suite at AoA and that worked out really well. We liked the extra space and having the larger fridge and a microwave. We're heading back in a few weeks and even though we only have the 3 "littles" traveling with us this time we're still booked in a suite so we don't have to worry if we get connecting rooms or not (plus, we liked the suite better than the 2 connecting rooms).

I will say that a friend of mine had requested connecting rooms at AKL several years ago (their trip was in late September). They had 4 adults and 2 young children in their party. They did not get the connecting rooms they requested. At check-in they asked if they would be able to move to connecting rooms the next day. They were told there wouldn't be connecting rooms available until day 4 of their 7-day stay. The CM was able to get them into rooms that were directly across the hall from each other, though, so that worked out ok for them.

Family of 6 2 adults and 4 kids - got our "guaranteed" connecting rooms at sold out CBR last fall. It's the only request we got, but also the most important one!
Booked them again for CSR this Fall.

We also have had connecting rooms when requested. But we also said that was our most important part of the request - meaning in our booked room category the thing we wanted the most was our rooms to be connecting.

We have gotten them when we requested them. I have also sent fax with my request about 5 days before arrival date. Dont know if helped but doesnt hurt. There is a thread for Port Orleans Resort with fax request number.

We had connecting rooms last month at POR. The request was put in by our travel agent. I believe our only requests were 1) connecting rooms and 2) close to a bus stop. Our rooms were both of those.

We are a family of 6 and have received connecting rooms every time we requested them. I am sure it had to do with our kids were all under 18 at the time. Now that one is 18, do not know if we would luck out again.

We got connecting once out of three times. All three times were two adults and five kids under 12.

Where you book, how you make your request, the make up of your party etc does not matter in getting your request of connecting rooms granted. It is 100% dependent on occupancy and how many other people requested connecting rooms.

Wow - were these all at similar times of the year?

I have requested connecting rooms twice and have received them both times. And the connecting room was my mom, one adult. Both times it was my ONLY request.

October 2012 - BC
January 2014 - WL

They try to meet requests, but I would imagine it comes down to how many rooms connect, how busy they are, how many families request this, and the composition of the families. I've also been given a room with a a connecting door when we were not traveling with any family on multiple occasions.

September 2009 - requested and got connecting room at ASsp
October 2013 - requested and got connecting rooms at POFQ

both times was my family and my sisters

Have you priced out a 1 bedroom villa with free dining? It came out better for our family to get a 1 bedroom at AKV Jambo with a standard view with free dining. There are only 5 of us going this year though. If you have more than that a 2 bedroom is definitely more expensive.
