For anyone who has ever requested connecting rooms...

We've requested connecting rooms at several different hotels on property and we've been granted that request 50% of the time.

Beach Club July/August - Requested connecting rooms, but was not honored.
Contemporary Resort July- Requested connecting rooms, but was not honored.
Polynesian Resort August/September - Requested connecting rooms, and recieved them!
Shades of Green July/August/September - Requested connecting rooms, and recieved them! (Multiple times)

Fwiw, my Dreams Unlimited TA has told me to avoid both the Music and the Contemporary if I want connecting rooms. The Contemporary doesn't have as many as other resorts, and at the Music many of the connecting rooms were used to make the Family Suites.

We haven't gone yet so it remains to be seen but... Our TA told us she just found out from Disney when she was booking our rooms that they do guarantee connecting rooms for families with only 2 adults and more minor children than will fit in one room. We are a family of 9 (hubby and I and our 7 kids ranging from 16 down to 3) and we supposedly have 2 connecting rooms guaranteed at CBR for Dec. 11-19 later this year.

They will do everything they can to grant your request of connecting rooms, but your TA was given incorrect information. Connecting rooms are never guaranteed. Twice we have traveled to WDW with 2 adults and 5 kids under 12 and both times we did not get connecting rooms. Once we were in 2 different buildings and the other in the same building but 2 different floors.

Just be prepared there's a chance it might not happen.

There is no way for Disney to guarantee connecting rooms ahead of time. They don't block out rooms as they are booked. Plus they don't keep track of how many connecting rooms are requested to even know how many would be available.

Disney will do what they can, and the odds are good, but don't depend on getting connecting rooms. If you absolutely cannot make it work with 2 rooms that don't connect you really should book a suite or villa. A space where you know you will be all together!

We can make it work without connecting rooms, and had actually planned to book our reservations as 2 separate ones--me with 4 kids in one room under one reservation, and hubby with 3 kids in another room under a separate reservation. If that's what ends up happening, no biggie at all. Hubby and I could split up, or more likely we'd put our teens and tweens together in one room and hubby and I would be with the littles in the other. Again, no biggie. I was just sharing what I was told. FWIW, they combined our reservation into one, for 9 people with one confirmation number and a deposit equal to a single room deposit, but with two rooms. I suppose I'll find out in a little less than 7 months what will actually happen. We travel a TON, even my 3-year-old has been in 30-something states and a couple foreign countries, and the kids all go with the flow beautifully. Connecting rooms will be convenient, but not at all absolutely necessary.

I doubt Disney is doing bed checks if she's comfortable having her teenagers in a room together it is fine.

There are teenagers in rooms without adults every day at Disney. Think about school trips. My kids were there in March -- no adult in their room, just 4 teenagers. The chaperone room was several doors away.

While you may think it fine according to Disney a person age 18 or older needs to sleep in each room.

Tour groups have their own arrangements with Disney. What they are allowed is different.

Break their rules at your own risk as long as you realize being tossed out is one of those risks.

I'd take that risk. I'm a rule follower to a fault but having an older teen under 18 in a room to sleep is more than fine to me if the parents are nearby. As someone pointed out, tour groups do it all the time. Even though they get "special permission" I think Disney would have a very hard time justifying throwing out a family for the sole reason that they had teens in a room despite the rule.

It wouldn't be hard to justify at all. Any time you break their terms and conditions they are free to make you leave and keep your money.

Im not saying that I think it is likely to happen. But no, it is not fine to do as you please with your resort reservation. There are terms we all agree to.

I can't imagine that it would even be an issue unless they drew attention to themselves by being rowdy, destructive, disrespectful, etc. I can guarantee you my kids are better behaved than most we've seen on chaperoned teen tours. Our last family Disney vacay was at Disneyland during grad week...I'm guessing from that experience that Disney's tolerance for teen behavior is far higher than mine.

Sure they can make you leave for any minor infraction. I would argue that in the situation we are discussing I seriously doubt they would do so. I don't think it would reflect well on them from a customer service standpoint. Think of the potential bad comments/reviews and press. For those reasons it'd be hard to justify from a PR use/your common sense standpoint.

The more likely scenario - if they said anything at all- is that you would be asked to accompany your teen in the room.

I just called Disney because now I'm really curious about it, and the cast member I spoke with in reservations did confirm that based on my resort choice and my family size, we would in fact be guaranteed connecting rooms. Shrug. In 6 months, 2 weeks, and 6 days I'll let y'all know what we actually get.

That's what I was told too. I also had emails and other paperwork that stated guaranteed connecting rooms. Didn't happen when we showed up.

The point people seem to be missing is that there is no mechanism in place to block off connecting rooms when you book your stay. So there is no feasible way for anyone to have connecting rooms guaranteed.

And I'll say again they will do everythingthey can to grant your request. But it is 100% not guarateed.

The people you talk to on the phone give wrong info all the time. YOU and DISNEY are bound by the terms of the contract you agree to which are connecting rooms are NOT guaranteed, nor is a room at the resort at which you booked BTW
You are guaranteed a room on property at the level at which you booked (or better if they choose to upgrade you) you technically aren't even guaranteed the resort. Read the FINE PRINT!

I have always gotten connecting rooms when I have requested them, and it wasn't for small children, it was for my parents, lol... The Wilderness Lodge 3x, Polynesian and POP Century have all honored my requests, You can also fax a request to the hotel directly 3-5 days prior explaining your situation and why you have requesting the connecting rooms..

Actually if you read all of the fine print you will see nothing is truly "guaranteed". They give themselves an out, so they have to provide you with is a room or rooms on property. Even the resort is not guaranteed, and people do get bumped to different resorts on occastion.

More likely than not everything will be just fine! But it is always good to know what may happen and what Disney legally has to provide. By booking at one of their resorts you are agreeing to their terms and conditions. It is better to be aware than unaware.
