We're flying from LAX to Tahiti. Going out we'll have 6 hours between flights. I'd like to do some duty free shopping because I won't have time on the way back.

So, how do I declare my purchases in customs? Do I declare when we arrive in Tahiti? How about on the return? Will it "eat" into my duty free allowance?

Any body familiar with LAX & what is available duty free and what the savings it? I was hoping for sunglasses & I'm not sure what else.

There are no real "deals" in duty free for Americans, other than liquor. We have such great discounts available here and we have no value-added taxes, so if you get something duty free, all you get is the retail price without the taxes. Definitely not worth the hassle.
