HERE IT IS - STRAIGHT FROM MOUSESAVERS: SEE! I WAS **RIGHT** (although the last time this appeared it was $289 for 2br, and it's $299 now ....) -- AWESOME deals!!! And this has nothing to do with "right after Sep 11" or "only low season" it's for regular season too !! :)

Annual Passholder rates for 10/3/02-12/19/02: ask for Code *** and get super discounts of up to 45% off! Discounted rates available at all Disney resort hotels except for All Star Movies and Coronado Springs. Sample rates that have been reported so far:

Grand Floridian - $229 garden view Grand Floridian - $189 garden view

The above cut/pasted from the mousesavers.com site. Sorry, still don't see a two bedroom OKW for $299 and regardless, except for the 4% that Dis controls, there isn't much availability so what does price matter?

You may be able to find this rate on a Friday or Saturday night. May be a good idea to save some points. I'm hoping for a similiar deal next May, I want to pay cash for a 1 bedroom on Saturday night rather than borrowing 48 points or staying elsewhere. We have to arrive Saturday due to airfare.

I just looked! The discount is showing on my version of Mousesavers. The discount is in red indicating that it is new. That is a great rate! It would be good to add on to your stay since I am pretty sure that is cheaper then the cash discount!

I think that some people have accused Magical Princess of making this rate up. It does appear to be there, now booking it might be another issue.

"FLY" OVER TO MOUSESAVERS.COM AND READ THE ***WHOLE*** PAGE OF DISCOUNTS AND YOU'LL SEE - DIRECTLY FROM THE SITE:

OK, I don't know why the page seems to open differently for me but there is nothing in red at the bottom. The last entry is for me to read is:

Grand Floridian - $229 garden view Grand Floridian - $189 garden view

Here's the link to the page. I just must be missing it somehow. It is an annual pass discount right?

I don't doubt you Magical Princess. I'm just having trouble finding the rate also. I do see a one-bedroom at OKW for $219. With DVC, I don't pay much attention to Mousesavers so maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I'm curious what the original discussion was that led to posting. Sounds like there was a question about whether discounts were available?

fkj -- Availability can be much more than 4%. Any time a member uses points for something else (like the cruise) then Disney must rent the room. Also, if it's within 60 days, the rooms become available for cash also.

IMHO, this discounting of DVC rooms is what has led to increasing the amount of points needed to stay at WDW resorts. The resorts aren't giving DVC a substantial discount and DVC must rent enough rooms to cover the cost.

I don't know what prompted this post, but I have to say that I don't really appreciate the tone. I don't recall ever saying anything personally to this person, but maybe she just wants to thumb her nose that she can get a discounted room at OKW. Okay, good for you but why don't you flaunt this at the individual persons you are actually aiming this at?

As a still not quite DVC'er (renting points in 2003, likely joining in 2004) I like these deals but lets not forget the DVC advantage.

A 2BR runs 270-282 points per week during the period in question.

Depending on how you calculate it, points cost $ 5-8 each over the term of DVC, a little more if you rent them.

So the cost with points runs $ 1350-2250 per week, or $ 190-325 per night, so the deal is actually pretty much in line with DVC costs.

Not that I'd mind a great deal for AKL conceirge.

WDW May 2003
Wilderness Lodge DVC
Beach Club DVC
AKL or Poly conceirge

I got it with the OKW rate in red at the bottom. The problem is you may need to hit reload or clear your cache (temporary internet files). Sometimes old pages are pulled from your cache file and you don't get the latest one.

People report to mousesavers if they get a good rate, even if it's just for 1 night. It may not be available for many dates.

I just went into mousesavers and I see the OKW rates for AP and seasonal passholders. that's a great rate if you can get it, that's only 30 points a night.

And this has nothing to do with "right after Sep 11" or "only low season" it's for regular season too !!
10/3-11/2 (Regular Season) 11/3-12/19 (Value Season)
Just for clarification, that rate given is <b>only</b> under the Value Season Column. It does not appear to apply also to the Regular Season.

Not trying to pick on anyone, but just want to clairfy the above.

Edited: To add MouseSavers' post in it's original tabular format. (Actual discount code removed).

Thanks Debbie! I tried what you suggested and magically the rate for OKW appeared in red:D Also in red was the Y/B club lagoon-view concierge for $289. It's great to have a computer techie posting:D

CASK: Oh yes, sorry about that - it IS indeed only "value season" -- opps!! I just clipped and posted the whole blurb. But still my valid point is: "It exists" at that rate for a 2br which:

ZUYLA: What prompted this post and my tone (which I don't appreciate being told it isn't appropriate because it is, after all I was basically told I was "lying"), is just indeed that: I posted this because I had posted before that I had this rate quoted to me (before we rented points) and then it disappeared off Mousesavers, and now it's back.

I was told: It was because of After Sep 11, and basically that it "wasn't true" - so that's it! Nothing more, nothing less! JUST CLARIFICATION!!!! Please don't read into things too much!

JUST BOOK YOUR VACATIONS AND ENJOY!!!!! :) :) :)

Actually for an OKW 2-B/R the regular points for that time of year range from 22 - 30 weekdays and 54 - 73 for the weekends.

So it all depends on how you value your points. For me, since the original purchasing costs have been paid off for years, I only consider the annual dues. These are my only true 'out of pocket' expenses.

Just considering OKW dues, a Dec 1-14 weekday 2-B/R (22 points) costs me $70. Even a weekend at that time at 54 points represents $173 in dues (as opposed to $332 ($299 + tax)) for the AP holder special.

Even over Thanksgiving, the highest point cost timeframe, the cost in dues alone is $96 Wednesday or Thursday, or $234 Friday.
Thanksgiving Saturday drops to Choice Season, which equals $179 for the night)

For those who are not DVC members, compared to regular rack, or even discounted rates, $299 + tax appears to be a good deal.

Just MHO.

So in my case I would still use points. Your results may vary.:)

Thanks! What this tells me is that at the worst time for WDW- with the economy down and demand for WDW down-you can get a 2BR at OKW (maybe) for about the same cost as DVC (don't forget to add the cost of one AP)...so what will happen to the cost if/when the economy and demand for WDW increases or at more popular times of year? Who knows? I do know what will happen to the cost in points for the next 40 years-not much---I'm feeling more confident about the soundness of my DVC investment than ever...

Paul

Just to clarify. I too see the rate for $299 for value season, not regular. Did anyone see it for regular season? Just checking. I have booked with the AP rate for 10/11 & 10/12 for $387 which is a better rate than the member discount rate and much better than the full rate, but naturally I want to get the best rate I can. Just like Magical Princess has said these rates can appear and then as quickly disappear.

DebbieB -- I see the red! :)

I had tried refreshing earlier and that didn't work. Clearing the cache did the trick.

fkj -- Availability can be much more than 4%. Any time a member uses points for something else (like the cruise) then Disney must rent the room. Also, if it's within 60 days, the rooms become available for cash also.

Yes, I understand that but I was using the generally accepted percentage that is available for CRO to book. So, it may be a few more rooms but still limited availability.

And, MagicPrincess,

I was told: It was because of After Sep 11, and basically that it "wasn't true" - so that's it! Nothing more, nothing less! JUST CLARIFICATION!!!! Please don't read into things too much!

I don't recall reading a post where the word, "lying", was used, at least until today.

Not reading into things too much is good advice and thanks to those who have suggested clearing the cache. I'll try that.
