59 days till dd bday surprise disney trip!

Have fun! The House of Blues is fun if you have not been to one, it is in Downtown Dallas or the Stockyards in Ft. Worth if you are into Country Music, Billy Bobs is the largest honky tonk :)

It's far. The stadium is in Arlington, not Dallas. If you are planning to rent a car and are not easily intimidated by traffic you can give it a shot, but it is a bit of a hike!

I think that Westin Park Central is further from DFW aiport than Arlington (and the new Cowboy's stadium) is from DFW airport. I might be exaggerating, but not by much!

There is a Westin near DFW airport, so you might want to look at that one instead (unless you have a reason to be at the Westin Park Central location).

You are renting a car, correct? What other things would you like to see? And it sounds like you are bringing the kids - what ages?

My other question is - where are you? - so I know what might or might not impress you.

Unless you're getting a tremendous deal (free) on that hotel, I woud stay at one of the many hotels around the stadium. They offer a gameday free shuttle that is so worth it as driving in that area is difficult if you're used to it and a nightmare if you're not. We were there recently for the Jonas Brothers and they start closing roads around the stadium hours before an event.

I would definitely rent a car or plan for lots of taxis. DFW is a large area and difficult to navigate without a car.

As far as what to do, I haven't been to DFW without kids in over 25 years so I can't help there.

The Westin you're planning to stay at is pretty far from the stadium as others have said but, then again, the area around the stadium is one big mess right now. Ironically, my dad and his wife, my mother and my grandmother all live close enough (not together mind you!) to walk practically (I don't live quite as close, thank goodness). They rant and rave about how hard it is just to get to the Wal Mart down the street since all of the streets are closed, or at least partly so. That said, I wouldn't pick one very close to the stadium because of all of the construction - just going to dinner you'd probably have to take some sort of detour. Collins is the main street where all of the restaurants are on and it's basically demolished right now. Along I-35 - the highway closest to the stadium - there's several decent places. Pappasitos, Papadeaux, etc. Also, Six Flags, Hurrican Harbor and Texas Rangers Stadium are right down the street from the Cowboys. Hwy 360 is close as well but you will not find anywhere to eat along it, unless you want Cracker Barrell. Then again, you can always take 360 into Grapevine and there are tons of places to eat. Actually, Grapevine wouldn't be a bad place to stay - it's about 10-15 minutes to the Arlington when traffic cooperates and there are tons of restaurants, Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine Mills Mall (where there's a Rainforest Cafe), and the Gaylord hotel is there as well. You can take the Tarantula Train (old steam engine) to Fort Worth Stockyards and also enjoy a restaurant down there and walk around. Although they don't give you much time to eat and look around when you take the train. I think it's 2 1/2 hours. But it is a nice thing to do. Sundance Square in downtown Ft Worth is nice and there's tons to do in Dallas. The Dallas Aquarium is wonderful.

Whatever you choose to do I am sure you'll have a great time. And welcome to my town!
