For All Who Come to this Happy Place: My 1st Trip to DL for the POTC World Premiere!

I love love your trip reports! This is making me want to plan a trip to disneyland so bad. I am trying to talk dh into it, but we always have the luck of ending up with the roach motels so I know how you were feeling. Can't wait to read the rest of it!

Oh dear! If you don't mind me asking, what hotel was it? (I apologize if you already mentioned the name and I just didn't catch it.) I would like to know so I never end up staying there. I'm a budget girl so if something is a good deal I usually am all over it.. but YIKES! Did you feel as though the febreze helped at all? I'm a big febreze fan.. I take it with me on all my vacations!

P.S. I am loving your trip report!

America's Best Inns

How ironic... :rotfl2:

I didn't get any pictures. Hmmmm....wonder why! :lmao:
The few pictures of it online are not exactly accurate! No surprise there! ;)

No, the Febreze didn't help in this case at all, but it made me feel a little better. :rotfl:

I jumped on over to this thread as soon as I saw it from the DCL trippie. Wahoo! Your a Disneyland newbie.

I have only been to WDW once (when I got engaged), but I have been to Disneyland several times. I actually have been inside the control room for the Indiana Jones ride. That was a really magical day for the sixteen-year-old me. I really love that ride.

I can totally relate to your Splash Mountian surprise, only I had the opposite experience. Going to WDW in December, we completely avoided Splash Mountain the whole time because we thought it was too cold. We really were used to the Disneyland Splash Mountain where you get practically drenched each time you ride it. Finally we did the WDW Splash Mountain on our last Magic Kingdom night. Once we finally ventured onto it and figured out that you only got splashed a little, we went on it 5 times in a row. Plus, it's a great vantage point to see the castle lit up at night (even if it is only for an instant).

I can't wait to hear (read) about your adventure on the Matterhorn. Plus, being there for the POTC: At Worlds End premier must have been a truly fantastic experience. I love seeing movies with the "right" kind of audience. Seeing Pirates with a Disneyland audience of POTC fans sounds perfect.

Yay! I'm glad you are joining this Trippie too! :yay: I hope to also become a Disneyland veteran! I loved it! :goodvibes You use to not get wet on Spalsh Mountain at WDW at all and now you get soaked! They changed it and Im not too happy about it. I never got wet on that ride until resently. I like the way it use to be. Oh well...

Oh, the Matterhorn will be coming up soon! :thumbsup2 The Premiere was amazing! It was such an experience! I can't wait to start posting the pictures! I know it's a day I will never forget! pirate:

Great report! I can't wait to see if you saw Johnny up close

;) :cloud9: :rolleyes1

Yay!! I'm really enjoying seeing Disneyland. It's something I've always wanted to go do for the same reason as you. I know it's considered to be a 'lesser' park to WDW, but it was Walt's, he had a hand in it, he created it, that to me is cool :thumbsup2 Now I just have to get on a plane :scared:

I hope you finish this trippie before we leave for our wedding next Monday because I want to see how it turns out ;) I also need to PM you because I wanted to arrange something special for my DF to be delivered to our room, but I'm stumped as to what I could do. :confused3

I can't believe it's almost your wedding day! :yay: How exciting! :cheer2: You must contact me and I can help you set up a magical moment! :wizard: I don't know if my Trippie will be finished before you leave and if it isn't, it'll give you something Disney to do when you get back! :goodvibes I can't wait to hear about your big day! :bride:

We have always thought Casey Jr was fun...especially sitting in the cages. DL Fantasyland is much better IMHO than WDW. I was surprised at WDW's lack of outdoor ride theming too....but realized it has a lot to do with weather and lines being inside. ;)

I can't wait to hear what you think of the Matterhorn.

Did you eat at Blue Bayou?

just a tidbit....have you heard of Club 33? We actually got the chance to eat there. very cool. :wizard: princess:

Oh, Disneyland's Fantasyland is much better! I loved it and was very impressed! :thumbsup2

We did go to Blue Bayou! I made sure to book advanced reservations there because it was the one place I knew I had to eat at, of course! It'll be coming up in the Trippie! :)

I have heard of Club 33! I have read and heard so much about it and I would love to be able to actually see it! That's so awesome that you actually got to go there!

i'm loving the report, but have one question, what kind of camera do you have?? I can NEVER get clear pics in pirates.

I have a Kodak Pocket Camera. I love it because it is so small and it takes pretty good quality pictures. Sometimes, I have to go in edit and enhance pictures taken in the dark or low-light, but usually I can get a pretty good picture.

Aw, I love Fantasyland too!:cloud9:
Looks like you guys had a great first day at Disneyland. Its so true about the crowds though, the walkways get jammed up pretty quickly.
Love the pictures by the way. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'm so glad you are enjoying my Trippie and pictures! So much more to write and post! :thumbsup2

I'm loving it !!! I just found out yesterday that there is a big possibility that we are going to be stationed in California when we leave here. SOOOOO Disneyland AP's are a possibility in our future.

You're pictures are definitely getting me excited. The castle would be something I would have to used to as well, BUT, I don't think it would take much ;)

Thanks for the wonderful updates and I look forward to more!! Now I have to go work on my trippie, LOL.

Oh, the Disneyland AP would be a must! Their Downtown Disney is fantastic too! I can't wait to go back! :yay: I really liked Disneyland's Castle too and I am glad it is different. That's why I liked DL so much because it is totally different from WDW. They are each equally amazing and magical! :wizard:

Wow Thanks Lindsey... Now I have to plan a trip to Cali!!! My son is going to enjoy this one.. hehehehe but I think well have to take a miss on your wonderful accomodations...I can't wait to hear more!! :hippie:

I don't blame you on the accommodations! :rotfl2: I hope I'll never have to stay anywhere like that again! :rotfl: It was still worth it! Next time, I will make sure there is room at a Disneyland Hotel! ;)

Loving it so far! Thanks for such a detailed description of DL. And great photos too! :thumbsup2 I've been to WDW tons of times, but only once to DL, when I was much younger. I really want to go back someday. Anyway, great trippie! And sorry about the roach motel, yuck!

Can't wait to hear about the premere!

You are welcome and I am so glad you are enjoying the Trippie! I've always been on the east coast, so I'm so glad I finally made it to the west coast! I can't wait to go back and Disneyland has got me hooked! :cool1:

Oh, I know what you mean about the castle. It is a bit of a disappointment. We were like "whaaaaaaaaaaaat?" when we first saw it. It was still a beautiful park, but its not WDW. When we were there someone told us that the drawbridge is actually functional. Small or not, you can trap me in a castle any day! ;) Lovin' the pics! :thumbsup2 I also know what you mean about the dark hair. I tried it before...it was bad. :rotfl: It takes some adjusting to. Light or dark your hair still looks great! :)

That was DH's reaction to the castle! :rotfl2: I still love it though and the park is very beautiful! I know we were very impressed and we thought it was actually all around a better looking park than the Magic Kingdom. I'm glad you are loving my new Trippie! :wizard: I've got a hair appointment this Friday and I am hoping they can get me back to a blonde! This has got to go! :rotfl:

Great Trippie Lindsey!! I really liked Indiana Jones also and think they should bring that to WDW. The original Pirates is really cool also. Unfortunatly I wasn't able to go on the HM my first trip there b/c it was still closed from taking down the Christmas Decorations...oh well I guess I will just have to go again to ride it.

Can't wait to read more about the trip and all about the Premiere!!!

I loved Indiana Jones too! Much better than just having the show in WDW. :) That's too bad about the Haunted Mansion! I really hope they make the one in WDW just as amazing as the one at DL! Then, you won't have to travel as far to see it! ;)

I love love your trip reports! This is making me want to plan a trip to disneyland so bad. I am trying to talk dh into it, but we always have the luck of ending up with the roach motels so I know how you were feeling. Can't wait to read the rest of it!

Awwww...thanks! :) Disneyland is definitely worth a trip, especially if you've never been there! It's a blast! Well, we did know it was a roach motel and had no choice, since every other place was booked! No wonder this one still had availability! :rotfl2: We made it work and it was still worth it! :goodvibes

Dining in Pirate Style
Lunch at Blue Bayou Restaurant

We had a little bit of time before our lunch reservation at the Blue Bayou Restaurant and I had totally forgotten to stop by City Hall to pick up our "1st Visit to Disneyland" buttons! :scared1: DH & I made our way back down Main Street to Disneyland's City Hall.

n25002324_32255156_9002.jpg

We made our way to City Hall and got our buttons! We also got a special button, since we told the CM we were here for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" Premiere that said "The Call of Adventure" with the pirate skull. I just love that button! pirate:

n25002324_32255157_9277.jpg

n25002324_32255159_9809.jpg

When we went to leave City Hall, we saw the Firehouse Band! They were fantastic and a lot of fun! You can also see Walt Disney's apartment above the Disneyland Firehouse in this picture. :goodvibes

n25002324_32255160_74.jpg

It was finally time for lunch at Blue Bayou and I was thrilled! As soon as I knew we were going to Disneyland, I was on the phone booking a reservation at Blue Bayou! It was the one place I knew I had to eat at if I ever made it to Disneyland!

n25002324_32255161_350.jpg

Blue Bayou is a New Orleans style restaurant with a moonlit ambience and you overlook the entry to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, like San Angel Inn in Mexico at Epcot, but so much better!

I didn't think I could get anymore excited, but I sure did! Our waitress handed us each a collectable "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" World Premiere menu! It is so neat and just made our Pirate Premiere trip even more perfect!

n25002324_32255162_614.jpg

There were even special "Pirates of the Caribbean" dessert items on the menu! pirate: I'll take the Captain Jack Sparrow that's pictured, please! :rotfl2:

n25002324_32255163_882.jpg

The food was just wonderful at Blue Bayou and we got to sit at a nice table for two in the corner. The salad was our personal favorite. It was so fresh and yummy!

47b7d923b3127cce86d8c3600b0000000026101AaMWrNw3aMW

It was finally time for dessert and this is what I was really looking forward to! DH said he was too full for dessert and we could split something, but I said no way! We were each going to get a different pirate dessert! :rotfl:

DH got the Flying Dutchman Cookie Boat! Yes, that's right...the Flying Dutchman Cookie Boat! It was huge and the coolest dessert I have ever seen! It was a warm chocolate chip cookie served with Dreyer's vanilla-bean ice cream, caramel, and chocolate sauce. Well, I was sure glad DH got his own dessert because he ate the entire thing! He said it was just too good and he couldn't help himself! :goodvibes

n25002324_32255164_1150.jpg

n25002324_32255165_1417.jpg

I chose the Tortuga Trio of Crème Brule and it was fantastic! It came with chocolate, passion fruit and vanilla-bean custards, caramelized and served with Brittany cookies in a treasure chest! The passion fruit was my favorite and the cookies were amazing! They were so fresh and soft.

n25002324_32255166_1670.jpg

n25002324_32255167_1929.jpg

I loved every minute of our meal at Blue Bayou and it was such a perfect way to begin our celebration for the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" World Premiere! When we were brought our check, we also were given Blue Bayou chocolate mint doubloons to commemorate our visit! I just loved the special touches Disneyland did at the Blue Bayou for the premiere! What a wonderful idea! Arrrrrrrr...it was one delicious meal! pirate:

Hi Lindsey! I was wondering about your CA trip!

I love your trippie! It's neat to see DL through a newbie's eyes! I really like all the detail you captured (like you do in all your trippies). The detailing of DL is why I love it! The Indiana Jones queue? That is what made me go to architecture school. I wanted to design Disney queues! Am I doing that? No, but I digress...

Your pics give me the itch to get to the park...we haven't been since end of January...way too long! LOL

Can't wait for the rest! I hope you got a Mint Julep and fritters at the mint julep bar...:thumbsup2

p.s. almost forgot to ask about that passionfruit brulee...you said it was your fave...I want to go to BB JUST to try that (b/c I'm obsessed with passionfruit, see? since it was in my wedding cake...lol)

hey Lindsey,

just got back from WDW, and see you have this trip report up!! YEAH! i am just loving this, i just want to go to Disneyland, NOW!!!! can't wait to read more.
p.s.- i will pm you with the pic. of dh's basket-we just loved it! thanks

Already 4 pages........go away for the weekend & miss everything.
Ok, I am here now. Going back to read what you have so far!!!!!!pirate:

Edited to add....all caught up. I love all your pics of Disneyland. I have only been once & loved every minute of it. I am trying to talk DH into going next Fall!!!!

Disney-Kim.....how cool about getting into Club 33. Do you have any suggestions for the rest of us as to how to do that? I would sooooo love to see that place.

Isn't Blue Bayou FANTASTIC!? I love that salad there, soooo good! Very romantic too.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed Disneyland so much. Alot of people who go to WDW first seem to think less of Disneyland. Its great that you two had such a great time!
Looking forward to the next installment. Woo hoo! Oh, and Happy 4th of July!

I am a newbie and I hope to become a veteran of DL too! :rotfl: I loved it that much! You sound like me with it being way too long and needing to go back! We can just never get enough! ;) That's the life of us DIS'ers, I guess! That is so neat that the Indiana Jones ride made you decide to go to architecture school. What a great Disney inspiration! :goodvibes

What about Mint Julep and fritters!? I didn't know about this!

I also love passion fruit! YUMMY! :yay: I guess that's why I loved it so much and it's the first fruit crème brule I have ever had!

Haha! Oh no! You must catch up! :rotfl: You can't step away from The DIS for a minute! :rotfl2: Disneyland is great! I am so ready to go back too! I'd also love to see those Club 33 pictures! I also heard about a basketball court in the Matterhorn. Is that still there? I've seen pictures and I love all that neat stuff they have there in Disneyland

Oh, it was the best! It's at the top of my Disney restaurants' list! :thumbsup2 I just loved Disneyland and I didn't think less of it at all. I personally think Disneyland is a lot better than the Magic Kingdom! :goodvibes Happy July 4th to you too!!! :jumping1:

Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams

It was time for Disneyland's Parade of Dreams, so we found a great spot on Main Street! The music for the parade was fantastic! Mickey & Minnie walked down Main Street to begin the parade.

n25002324_32255169_2459.jpg

Tinker Bell is actually in the parade at Disneyland and this is the only place where you can see her, unless you happen to go to the "Pirate & Princess Party" in Walt Disney World.

n25002324_32255173_3282.jpg

The parade floats and the design of the floats at Disneyland are amazing! I couldn't not believe how large they each were!

n25002324_32255176_4133.jpg

n25002324_32255179_4967.jpg

I was so impressed with Disneyland's parade and I thought it was much better than the parades at Walt Disney World. I think they put a lot more work and detail into the floats at Disneyland because there is only one. I just loved the music and I still can't get it out of my head! :music:

n25002324_32255183_6044.jpg

n25002324_32255185_6602.jpg

n25002324_32255186_6884.jpg

The parade had amazing unique touches like the Alice & Wonderland trampoline float, acrobats, stilt walkers, and a rhinoceros that almost looked real! It was fantastic!

I also made sure to have DH video tape Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams, so now you can see it too! Crank up the volume and enjoy the music! :yay:

Video: Disneyland's Parade of Dreams

I Don't Want to Leave!

We needed to head back to the lovely roach motel so we could get some rest before our long day tomorrow, but I just couldn't leave Disneyland for the day yet! We decided we'd try to get Space Mountain in before we left because it is my favorite ride at the Magic Kingdom! I had to check it out here at Disneyland!

n25002324_32260044_7530.jpg

n25002324_32260073_6586.jpg

Well, the line for Space Mountain was around 2-hours and there was no way we had time to wait, so we decided to go with our second choice, the Matterhorn Bobsleds!

The Matterhorn would be the original Expedition Everest! The Matterhorn is actually very impressive in size and is the same height as Sleep Beauty's Castle. It's right next to the castle and to me it overshadows the castle. It's pretty impressive, especially since it is an original!

n25002324_32260047_8453.jpg

I was very excited to go on this ride and the line moved pretty quickly. The only issue I had was that we had to ride together in the bobsled seat, so I was between DH's legs and we had to strap one seatbelt around both of us. I am never comfortable in rides like this and DH & I were pretty uncomfortable. Then, in the bobsled behind us there was a little girl with her mom, who was crying and screaming because she did not want to go on the ride. I'm talking blood-curdling screams of terror! The small child was in a panic and the mother was forcing her on the ride! DH & I could not believe the CM was even allowing this! The child was kicking and screaming so violently that she was coming out of the safety-belt in her mother's lap. The mother was actually laughing about it! :confused3 :sad2:

We knew this was going to ruin the ride for us because they were seated right behind us! The ride was fun, except for our small issue. The ride is quite rough and bumpy, which is why I didn't like the seating for the bobsled. I know I would have enjoyed the ride a lot more if I could have sat in the seat myself and DH had my hair in his face the entire time, so I know he couldn't really enjoy it. :rotfl2:

The Abominable Snowman in the ride is quite funny compared to the Yeti in Expedition Everest. He could actually fit in the Yeti's hand! :rotfl: He doesn't actually move either and there is just a strobe-light in him to give you the effect of movement. It still is a classic ride and I really hope I will be able to ride it again without all the distractions.

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage had not opened yet when we were at Disneyland, but it was almost completely finished. We missed it by only a couple weeks, so I can't wait to go back and go on it! I really miss the original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, so this will at least give me that same feeling. :goodvibes

n25002324_32260048_8755.jpg

n25002324_32260049_9058.jpg

n25002324_32260050_9386.jpg

Then, we made our way over to It's a Small World and the ride was huge! I also think it is so weird that all of the rides in Disneyland are actually outside. At least, one part of every ride is outside, like the loading area or the ride itself. Nothing is covered and I'm really curious about what they do when there is bad weather! There is nowhere to go to get out of the rain and I think it is odd because all of the rides are right out there in the weather elements. They must have to do a lot more work and upkeep on the ride, then they do at Walt Disney World. You can easily get out of the rain or even the hot sun for all of the rides at Walt Disney World, but you can't avoid any of that at Disneyland. I'm sure they decided that was a must, once they designed Walt Disney World.

Mickey's Toon Town

We had one last stop in Disneyland before we had to call it a day, Toon Town!

n25002324_32260059_2168.jpg

I have wanted to go to Disneyland's Toon Town, ever since I first saw it on TV when I was a little kid and it did not disappoint! Mickey's Toon Town is amazing and you can't even compare it to Mickey's Toon Town Fair in Walt Disney World. This is after all, considered the character's real homes, and their vacation homes are in Walt Disney World!

n25002324_32260064_3690.jpg

n25002324_32260065_4018.jpg

You really feel like you are in Mickey's house! There were so many cute and neat touches throughout all of Toon Town! Plus, I got to take Mickey's car out for a spin!

n25002324_32260067_4650.jpg

n25002324_32260069_5287.jpg

Chip 'n Dale's tree house is in Toon Town too! I was so excited to see it and had to play around in it! :goodvibes

n25002324_32260070_5612.jpg

Another highlight in Toon Town for me, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin! I remember seeing this ride on TV when it opened and wanted to go on it so badly! I am a huge fan of the movie, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" This was going to be our last ride of the day for us and it ended up being our longest wait of the day too! We waited over an hour for the ride, but it was worth it!

n25002324_32260063_3389.jpg

It was finally time for us to call it a day and we had spent a couple more hours in Disneyland than we originally had planned for the day. I was not thrilled about spending time at the roach motel, but I knew this meant we were just that much closer to the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" World Premiere! That was my incentive to go back to that motel and actually get back in the bug-bed infested bed! :rotfl2:

We hopped on the Anaheim Shuttle and made our way back to our room. Amazingly, someone had come by the room and added some new small bars of face soap. I hope the pile of their sheets and comforter in the corner didn’t offend them. :lmao: We had made the entire bed with our own stuff! We had to shower and get ready for the big premiere because we had to be up around 2:00am. I knew I wouldn't be taking a shower at that time, no way! Well, the tub didn't drain at all and the water was half way up my leg by the time I got out of the shower. The sink also didn't drain at all, so forget about leaving the water running for even a second. We could barely wash our faces or brush our teeth before the sick was overflowing. It was an adventure staying in this place! That's for sure!

DH & I were also getting sore throats and not feeling too well either, which we knew was from the motel room. I'm sure it was a combination of the dust and the air conditioning unit that was bolted on the side of the wall. I had to actually grab a chair and climb up and down to turn it on or off. I'll give you a heads up that I was sick for two weeks after we got back with a bad sinus infection and sore throat! :scared: More to come on that later...

I got all of our pirate gear ready for the big day too! We, of course, had to dress the part and be prepared for the long 15-hour wait! pirate:

As always, great installment! :cool1: I made my breakfast and watched the parade while I ate. DH walked in, 'what are you watching??' I say, 'Lindsey taped the DL parade'. 'Looks nice' says my Disney lovin' DH.

Thanks for sharing!

Great trippie so far Lindsey! :goodvibes

You can easily get out of the rain or even the hot sun for all of the rides at Walt Disney World, but you can't avoid any of that at Disneyland. I'm sure they decided that was a must, once they designed Walt Disney World.

Don't forget, the weather is very different in CA than it is in FL. They have a lot less rainfall on average. None of those crazy afternoon thunderstorms at DLR like there is at WDW in the summer!

ok, for the next time you go...;)

I love Disneyland Mint Juleps. You can get them at Blue Bayou, I think, but I don't know if you did. DH thinks that they taste like carbonated toothpaste. lol Anyway, it's like a minty, carbonated, limeade. I like them! Fritters are just fried dough with sugar, served with some kind of apple custard dip. :thumbsup2 The Mint Julep bar is in the back of the French market (walk around the back and there is a window) by the train entrance. :thumbsup2 Yum... :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 this is a great first time report on DL!!!! It is on my must do list for sure!
I am so sad that the hotel was making you sick. I can't stand staying in places like that..but i suppose if it was for a chance to see Cpt. Sparrow..then i would suffer through. You guys are troopers for sure :)
