For a great steak - Shula's, Capital Grille, or Morton's... or something else?

Though we're on the DxDDP on our upcoming May trip, we were thinking of splurging and paying OOP for a great high end steak dinner, and we were thinking of doing either Shula's, the Capital Grille, or Morton's (we're dining at Yachtsman at an earlier point during our stay). We've eaten at our local Morton's once, and we found it quite tasty, but we were wondering if anyone has dined at all three and might be able to compare and contrast the restaurants? Or maybe someone can point us in the direction of an Orlando area steakhouse that's even better than those previously mentioned.

Any and all opinions would be most appreciated! Thanks! :goodvibes

I haven't personally eaten at all 3, but FWIW one of my very good friends is a steak fanatic. His favorite, by FAR, is Capital Grille. I have eaten at the Capital, and it is always fantastic. I highly recommend it.

Sounds good! We are favoring Capital Grille, basically because of the sauteed prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella and heirloom tomato appetizer, and the lobster mac and cheese side. All the Shula's pics I've seen look quite good, but it's menu is practically a carbon copy of Morton's (not that that's a bad thing), and we were leaning towards trying something a little different. But if the steaks at any one place tower over the steaks at any other place, well, then, that's the place we'll ultimately go with.

They're all good - and you won't be disappointed with any of them! But, Shula's is our personal favorite! :lovestruc And, you wouldn't have to move your car! It's a very nice walk over to the Dolphin from the Y&BC! :)

I've never eaten at CG- but between Shula's and Morton's I much prefer Shula's. I don't really know what the difference is since you are right essentially the menu is the same- I just prefer the food at Shula's. THey also have the most incredible cheesecake with caramal drizzle for dessert (so maybe that is it!).

Morton's is the most absurdly priced of the 3.

I really like Capital Grill and Ruth Chris Steakhouse myself. I prefer the side dishes at CG, they have better choices, but then again I go for the beef not the veggies!

Yachtsman is pretty good, but not as incredible as CG or RCS nor as pricey.

Del Frisco won the critics choice award for Best Steakhouse in Orlando this year.

I really like The Palm at the Hard Rock.

Between the three you've mentioned I like Morton's the least, I have loved all of my Shula's experiences EXCEPT in Orlando, that said they have a new manager who promised me when I met him that things have changed (I will try them this weekend if I can). Cap. Grille is a great chain but I've heard absoutely nothing about the one in O-town (which can't be good).

After all is said and done, I like the atmosphere and total dining experience at Hard Rock best but I still think (any) Ruths' Chris is ABSOUTELY the best steak choice.

Our vote of the three is Shula's
great steak...good atmosphere...wonderful drinks

Mortons is way too loud for a steak house IMO....but their crab cake app. is excellent....but for the size you of steak it is overpriced…wine is overpriced as well

The Cap. Grille is a good steak...but i dont care for the service in O'town...most of their business comes from conventions...so they aren’t really trying to make it memorable...overall was a blah experience

As for Del Frisco....if you like sitting on top of your neighbor it’s a great steak...but they shoved way too many tables in that place...and you cant cut your steak without bumping elbows with your neighbors

Also have to add Old Hickory at Gaylord palms is our favorite in O’town ….great steak, fun atmosphere and wonderful cheese selections

Shula's for location.
Capital Grille for food! You will love the lobster mac and cheese. The fried calamari is awesome! They cook pan fry it with hot cherry peppers. :thumbsup2

Morton's sometimes has specials like 2 for $99 (2 double cut filets, choice of shrimp, scallops or crab each, 2 salads, 2 side dishes, and 2 desserts). This would be a great deal. Sign up for emails at their site. Way too much food though.

That appetizer is absolutely fall on the floor amazing. My wife considered ordering two last time and no steak at all :rotfl: . The lobster bisque at the Capital is not to be missed if you like lobster :cloud9:

All are good options, but I agree with some that Mortons is over priced for the quality which seems to have gone down in recent years. Another great option is the original Charley's steakhouse on 17-92 down by the Florida Mall. They have amazing steaks (the 20oz filet is to die for:worship: ), but make sure you go to the ORIGINAL, not the locations on I-Drive etc. Same brand, but I believe these are franchises and the steaks are no where near as good in my opinion. Someone else mentioned Del Frisco's, which also is great. Charley's is about 20 minutes from WDW, Del Friscos would be more like 30-40 depending on how you hit I-4 traffic....

:thumbsup2 Capital Grille's Lobster Mac'n Cheese is killer!! This is the best side ever. By all means have a steak if you have to. They have the best steaks, too but I could just fill up on the Lobster Mac. Morton's would be my close second choice. Didn't care for Shula's at all. We all found the steaks kind of tasteless. I'm sure this is a personal preference type of thing. Could be a Pats fan type of thing, too. :)

I have another vote for Charley's steakhouse. We have been there several times and the steaks are always fantastic. My DH enjoys the 20 oz filet!

Thanks for the info. :)

I bolded the part about Ruth's Chris because we ate at the one in Sarasota the last time we were in Florida, and while it definitely wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't the best steak we'd ever had, either. I guess it's just that I really don't care for the chain's signature way to serve a steak (i.e., brought to the table on a sizzling plate fresh from the oven). I'm of the school of thought that the perfect steak needs to rest 10-15 minutes after being taken off the heat, and NOT be served piping hot. But different strokes for different folks, and you know what they say about opinions. So, you know, take mine with a sizable granule of salt. ;)

Hmm. I was just checking out Del Frisco's website, and they don't have an Orlando location listed. I wonder what's up with that?

The location is technically in Winter Park:thumbsup2

Well if the first website was the first one that popped up, then thats the one I would have clicked too, so its not just you:thumbsup2

I've had Del Frisco's in NYC and it was definitely a great steak. I've also had Morton's and while it was good, it was kind of overpriced.

The best steak I've ever had at WDW was at Shula's (and at last count, I've had some sort of beef steak at about ten different restaurants on property).
