What is the speed limit on the different parts of 95? Up here it is 55 and only 65 when we get to 495 in Delaware. We plan on going no more than 5 over the limit but it would be nice to know how fast that will be.

:lmao: pay no attention to those signs.:lmao: but trooper, the red and white signs say 95!!! you will hit mostly 65. it goes to 70 in some spots. :thumbsup2 see you at okw in december!! were in a town and country and its well marked.

We leave in 8 days and will be driving straight through from RI to FL. We will be driving down with 5 kids and iI will be sharing the driving with 1 other adult. I know I will not be able to sleep while someone else drives so plan to stay up. Hopefully i will nap, but am prepared not to. We are leaving at 4 pm and hope to switch drivers every 5 hours. We figure those will be 30 min breaks and we know there will be bathroom stops along the way as well. We hope to get to Disney by 2-3pm on Saturday.

I've made that same straight through trip once before and I leave in the morning for our second. On thing to think about for your planning: Driving five hours in one sitting is no problem at 4:00 in the afternoon. Asking someone to start a five hour shift at 3:00 am is a different story. I think most others I've seen talking about driving over night limit it to 2 to 2 1/2 hours per shift over night.

leave in 6 hours....I need a nap.

but doing 5-15 over the limit is easy everywhere but Georgia. dont speed in Georgia.

In Florida when you get south of i10, you get run over if you dont drive 90. speeds of 100 happen a lot, just to keep up with traffic.

3 hours! Van's all packed, in-laws took the dog, friend came by for the key to let herself in to care for our kitties and fish. Just have to wait for dh to head home from work, pick the kids up early at school and for the 2 kids I'm babysitting to leave! Their Dad better be on time..I want to be out the door at 3:00!

Remember: there are sections of I-95 and I-4 in which the stated traffic speed drops by 5 to 10 MPH, especially in FL. You may think you are driving at just a few miles per hour over the limit and then, suddenly, you are driving over 10 miles per hour above the speed limit.

Cue the opening music to Cops.

"Watcha gonna do when they come for you...." :woohoo:

That's actually the reason we keep the GPS going during the whole trip. Otherwise, who needs help for 95 to I-4 for 1,000 miles?? :rotfl: It updates speed limits on the display so we don't make a mistake. Another job for the navigator!!!

I was surprised when I turned my new GPS on and saw the little speed limit sign on the screen. I don't know when they started doing that, but I had never seen it. Convenient.

I leave in 5 hours. It barely broke above 70 all week long until I removed the AC from the window. It's freakin 80+ in the bedroom. Busted my tail all day long today and I'm freakin tired, but there's no chance of sleeping in a sauna for a bed. It's not excitement at all bothering me to keep me from sleeping. It's the stupid hot house.

Awaiting someone to post the Youtube link for Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55," the unofficial anthem for this thread.

Oh, this brings back B_A_D memories. I had a friend follow me to the beach (Dewey Beach, DE) one time and she would not go 55 mph ... meaning, she kept her car at 48-52 mph. :confused3

We couldn't believe it. She was actually a driving hazard on the road. So my DH calls her the "I can't drive 55" girl"

Attention GPS users: Does anyone utilize the doppler weather feature on your GPS unit (if available)?

Driving over 1,000 miles one way (and many hours in the dark) to WDW covers lots of weather change areas. It seems that a GPS with such a feature would prrovide important traveling info.

We live just a few minutes away for Rte 78 so we'll be picking that up and taking it the 78-81-77-26-95 way!;)
Gonna stay over somewhere a little past Roanoke, VA depending on how tired we get when driving. :thumbsup2
My dh has to work til 2p.m. and I babysit til 3p.m. on Friday, so we're planning to leave no later than 3:15. We're packing up the van tonight!:goodvibes

Hope it all worked out and you are having safe travels.

Just make sure you aren't backing out of the garage via the Clark Griswald way! :lmao:

I have plans for a photo slideshow DVD to create for the grandmas. I plan to start out with my daughter filming a video of me backing out of the garage with some boxes piled up on the roof rack, hehe.

I'm also trying to figure out how to mount the camera tripod on the hood of the car so I can pile everyone up inside and take a photo of us all sleeping while driving down the road.

Packing up my luggage tonight after the last load of laundry and packing up the car tomorrow! Whoohoo!

I bet your family photo albums are a trip to look through. Have a safe trip.

We drive and are leaving tomorrow from st. louis. 16 hours from STL, and 1,018 miles each way for 2,036 RT

We time our trip to leave at 7pm after we have a nice dinner at home.

We put the kids, 8 and 3 in their PJ's, and leave. They watch a movie or two and fall asleep. My wife will drive from STL to nashville while I rest, then around 11pm in nashville, I take over and drive all night.

We make it to ocala florida around 7am, and stop for breakfast, at cracker barrel and allow everyone to stretch and rest. After we eat, it's a nice 4 hours to WDW. We usually get there around 1pm.

Driving through the night has many advantages. The kids sleep, so they dont get bored or on their or our nerves. traffic is very light. we go through downtown atlanta at 1am. And the trucks on i75 are not an issue.

I know not everyone can drive all night, but if you can, it works great.

Happy travels!

Safe travels to all!

We leave in 31 hours or so...maybe I'll see some of you on the road!:rotfl:

You should be on your way, have a safe trip.

dont get that cops song in your head! get this one in your head!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mehbMnHWac:lmao:

I played it while reading through the thread. Gives it a new perspective. Lots a memories of watching those movies with my father. :)

We still have a ways to go before our trip, thanks everyone on hre for making the wait more tolerable.

Does anyone have any current hotels to recommend in Brunswick/Kingsland area that are clean but not super expensive?
thanks!
