Curious as to what your strategy will be for the drive home?

With all due respect, we prefer not to answer such a question at this time. We just got here a few days ago! ;)

BTW: Bad bus accident near EPCOt this afternoon. There's a thead on the incident on the Theme Parks board.

Just wondering if you drive to the DL visits? We did 2 times from NJ and curious!

Our return-from-WDW drives usually begin at around 9 a.m. of the day of departure. Our goal is either Emporia or Petersburg, VA.

Our two DL travels were done via air. We've driven to San Antonio, TX twice, and can only imagine a continuing drive to Anaheim, CA.

[Our next drive will be later on today: EPCOT!] :thumbsup2

All the best.

Have fun in EPCOT!!! A cross country trip is the best especially with DL in the middle of it!! We've done it 6 times!

Indeed, we had fun at EPCOT tonight (we drove from the GF to the BC). Mo'Rockin and Off Kilter were first rate, as usual.

Now then: you good folks have done six round trips to DL!?! You need to start a thread titled: "For 6,000+ mile round-trip drivers only!" :worship:

I'm glad you had a great time in EPCOT! How's the weather? We visited in Feb during a VERY chilly, wet time but had fun!

As far as DL, we did drive cross country 6 times, however, DL was only in 2 of the trips! Still a lot of miles. Most of the trips were 6000-8000 miles in all. Many National Parks were visited! A lot of fun.

The weather has improved greatly over the last couple of days. Saturday was sunny and pleasant in the low 70s; Sunday was rainy (heavy downpours in the afternoon with a frightening lightning strike!); Monday was cloudy and cool (mid 60's); Tuesday was cool and sunny (upper 60's); but today's forecast suggests temps in the mid-70's; tomorrow should be even warmer. The sun is shining through our window right now.

Let's see...it's time for some Mickey Waffles. :cool1:

the 70s are great for WDW!! Have fun. I did read about the lightning strike, very dangerous. Glad the sun is shining-here in NJ as well again!

All of this Epcot talking and now I'm getting sad. No Epcot this year because of the little one, but maybe next year. Hubby wants to just do AK and MK.

Question...if we leave around 7pm from northern NJ (near NYC) with minimal short stops (stopping for sure at the Maryland House and maybe one more stop at Petersburg, VA) where will that put us around 12 hours later?

Unexpected weather and traffic notwithstanding, you should be able to reach SC.

All the best.

We drove to HS this morning. As we entered the "Film" parking lot it appeared that we would either end up being directed to the closest parking spot near the tram or the farthest away.

Yup: we started a new row, all the way back in the farthest space! We knew that when we got the closest spot at HS one day last December (we even took a photo of the rare experienced location!) our luck would run out.

And it did! :rotfl2:

No more driving tonight for these "For 2,000+ mile round-trip drivers only" participants. We're taking a launch to the MK and then a cruiser to Fort Wilderness!

All the best.:thumbsup2

For everyone that drives a little older car, what do you do before you leave ??? We are driving a 2005 Freestyle with 74K miles, pay a mechanic to give it a quick look over or not?

We drive a 03 Durango and tow our TT from NEPA. I am a fanatic about maintenance year round, but before our big trips to Disney, I always have my mechanic give it a once over and change the fluids. With 74,000 miles you shouldn't have a probelm unless you have been very negilgent on your PM's

An oil change is the #1 essential. But make sure those tires are properly inflated.

All the best.

We always do a total check - brakes, fluids, belts, etc. We DON'T tell them that we are leaving on a long trip, because we don't want them to see us as easy pickins. ;) Last summer, we had to get new tires and an alignment for $850 2 days before our trip. There went our pocket money, but we decided safety on the road was more important than some extra souvenirs and snacks.

It's definitely worth it for peace of mind on the road.

i agree with the rest of them. we have an 06 town and country with 15k on it. (its been to wdw 6 times and its about 2200 miles round trip so you know how often it leaves our garage:lmao:) change the fluids check belts brakes and tires and check your oil when you get there. :thumbsup2

I have kind of a related question. I ended up trading in my '07 Yaris for a '10 Corolla and am leaving for Disney in like 16 days. Jokes about sticking gas pedals aside, should I take it in for a once over before my trip? It only has about 250 miles on it, just not sure how much I trust the dealer.
