Driving on 95N near Fredericksburg Virginia now, traffic on 95S has been really bad for miles now. Good luck to anyone headed that way from points north!

do dahhhh...... do dahhhhhh........ :rotfl:

thanks for the report! that is most likely the worse part of the entire trip. that's why I try to avoid that area. im going to hit in in September but I it will be on a Wednesday morning about 5:30am so im hoping there wont be much going on.
have a safe trip home! :thumbsup2

Noob here....I have driven to Fla a bunch of times but never to Disney. Especially driving a Motorhome and kids aboard. (insert headache).
Besides getting out of NY more specifically off LI, is there a sticky on tips for when we hit route 4 coming into town? Any help is appreciated. Especially leave times from NY.:goodvibes
i4.... stay away from Orlando at rush hour. which way are you heading down?
Thinking about driving to WDW from CT in February 2015. Will be bringing our two grandsons 7 & 14. Wondering how it will go in our 2014 Fusion. Just not sure they will have enough room in the back of this car. We stepped down from Taurus to Fusion last month. I like the car, but not sure about the space. I am looking at 10 hours each day. I expect to head out 84 west to 81 South connecting to 95 in South Carolina.

Anyway, just wondering how it will go with the boys. I know the way down will be best, as they will be excited about where we are heading. The way home may be a long trip though.

Thanks for "listening".

pack lite!!! have them bring what makes them happy. video games, books, what ever keeps them going. have mom and dad keep them up the night before and they will sleep most of the way. when dd hit high school age, she would stay awake and wake us up to leave, we would get into the van and she would sleep most of the way only waking up to use the restroom and eat. now that we are older, we don't eat or drink because we would have to use the restroom. :lmao:

Hi all!! loving all the trips continueing to read and learn, hope everyone has a great Sunday so looking forward to our September trip :dance3:

Jumping on board...... I posted yesterday about our trip and didn't know about this thread.

We are heading towards Disney on Aug. 7th from south of Baltimore. I-95 is a few min. from our house. We can't get on the road until 1 or 1:30 on Thursday Aug. 7th. Hoping to avoid traffic around D.C. :scared1: We plan on stopping in S.C. for the night...would like to drive until around 10:00. I made a reservation in Florence.....but if the traffic is not bad....I feel like we can push it to at least Santee, S.C. Anyone else think we can make it there??? Thanks for any tips!!!

did you make it home dd? hi bc !

Just got home a couple of hours ago. Yesterday wasn't too bad until we got close to Fredericksburg. We stopped overnight in Alexandria bc we were doing so well. After we called the hotel, that's when the traffic started. If it wasn't for that bit of traffic passed Richmond, it started around spotsylvania ( love that name lol). We would have got to the hotel in 13 hours, but instead it was closer to 14.
Today on the other hand was smooth sailing. The only traffic we had was in CT bc of rain. Wasn't bad, made it home in 7 hours.

Can someone please tell me why lots of i95 has only 2 lanes????!!!!! UGH!! There would be a lot less traffic.

glad you made it home safely!!!! to answer your question......... im guessing for the same reason it is around the Lehigh valley. they build, build and build. homes, schools and shopping centers. when there done, they start building more. now, we are the warehouse capital of the world. being one hour from philly, one hour to new York city and some land left, we are now building warehouses faster then you can blink. the only part nobody seems to think about is where are all these cars and trucks going to go? you cant add lanes to the major highway running through the lv because over the years, business and homes were built up against the highway leaving no room for expansion. they built a new highway, i78 which is like a bypass, which is good for getting around the lv area which is mostly nj,ny ct and mass drivers. the only bad part is the business are built off the highway that has no room for expansion. the trucks and traffic have to use that highway. the "bypass" serves no purpose for the expanding area. the entire area is turning into a parking lot. it is like a four lane i95 in Richmond at rush hour.

I- am- assuming 95 all the way down from NY? Any better ideas?

The closer east you are, I-95 is the "best" way to go until exit 260B in FL, which takes you to to I-4. NW NJ folks and many in the PA crowd prefer kicking off their drive on I-81.

The important thing is avoiding metro areas during rush hour and that primarily means to avoid the greater DC area, especially northern VA. Passing that area after 11 p.m. is best, at least that's our experience after 32 drives to WDW since 2002.

All the best. :thumbsup2

hang in there, there are people on this thread that can help you from your area more then I can. I don't use i95 in the north. I use 78/81/77/26/95/4 or I will go 78/81/66/17/95/4.
they can give you times when to leave and which is the best way out of the northeast. :thumbsup2

Just an FYI for anyone planning to drive on I84 from the PA/NY boarder in either direction. The is a MAJOR construction project going on for miles through there with a bridge re-build. It really looks like it will be a multi year project but I don't know it for certain. We went through there today but got off at the first exit so we didn't have to head west up the one lane hill (not sure how many miles it goes but I think its at least a few) with all the various trucks and cars.

So unless your going to travel through there at night I would try to avoid that route if its in your travel plans.

heck, I wouldn't stop at all!!! :lmao: pending on traffic and rest stops, its possible you can make santee at a reasonable hour. :thumbsup2

What time to leave LI to avoid NY and DC traffic? I would figure 9 pm would do?

If you are on the road by 1, and not planning on making any excursions off the highway, except for gas, you should be able to make Santee. Pure driving is 6 1/2 hours from Baltimore to Florence at the speed limit. Add in a gas stop, a couple rest stops, and a brief eating stop, and your in Santee by 10! :wizard:

Howdy!

Our countdown continues. Soon, but not soon enough.

Regular gas down a bit to $3.39.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Hopefully your gas prices will keep dropping. I pass at least a dozen stations each day, and a couple weeks back one dropped to 3.31. Now three others are down that low too. I saw one along Route 73 on Saturday that was 3.23, and that was a Wawa so same price for cash or credit.

That seems like an appropriate time.

Good luck.

All the best. :thumbsup2

9pm is good except for Friday evening when it is jammed with people going places for the weekend.

Thanks you two. Let me do this backwards......would like to arrive at fort wilderness in our RV by about 6-7am on Sat Dec 20th. (we have reservation for that day). Im thinking of leaving thurs evening for a less stressful ride down. I still want to miss the traffic jams and if we have a few hours to kill on Friday, what is worth stopping for right close to 95 for a couple hours? :goodvibes
Thanks for all your help.
