"For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only!" (IV)

We're going to drive 1200 miles each way in November. We flew last month and my Wife said on the way back "I bought you that nice car, we need to drive it more". Is there a category for 'highest horsepower car on a 2000 mile round trip'? 600 HP means I will get to know the gas stations down 75!

im guessing that's not in a minivan. :lmao: just be careful you don't get in the cat. for the most speeding tickets. :lmao:

We're driving from Michigan... again. My husband hates to fly so we drove last April and will be doing it again this May. Last year we took 2 days going down, stopped in KY and then drove to Atlanta, visited the GA Aquarium and then drove a couple more hours and finished it the third day.
This year we're driving to Chattanooga and visiting the TN Aquarium, and then driving a few more hours and will hopefully have only 2 or 3 hours the day we arrive at Disney.

It really isn't so bad if you break it up and take your time. The drive home always sucks though.

We are heading out on our first drive in less than a week from Chicago :) I'm nervous about how DD will handle it because she's not the greatest in the car - AND she doesn't know where our final destination is. As far as she knows, we're visiting my mom in Valdosta for their birthdays (2 days apart).

My plan is to leave around 7 Saturday night and get just south of Louisville before we stop, then finish the drive to Valdosta the next day. We will spend the night in Valdosta and take my mom out for a birthday brunch before we head to Orlando. I'm not in any hurry to get to WDW as we aren't planning on parks until the following day.

from chicago....you are an extra 4 hours from us in st. louis.....

We do this, and have since the kids were babies.

Leave at 5pm, with the kids in their pajamas and their bellies full. They fall asleep by 9pm or so. The wife and I drive all night long.

We hit atlanta around 2am, and the florida line at sun up.

We stop in ocala florida around 7am and wake the kids with breakfast at cracker barrel. After a long breakfast, we the have 3 hours or so to get to disney, which happens around 11-12. Its about 17 hours for us this way to go 1,008 miles door to door.

from chicago, you could do the same thing, just leave around 1pm.

driving all night, the kids sleep 80% of the ride, and have no time to get crabby.

I'm getting nervous / excited about our trip (2222 miles!) this summer. It will be me, DD18, DD16, her BF18, DFriend16 and her BF18 and DFriend17. A great group of kids, but still... DH is flying down a few days into the trip (smart man!). We plan to drive straight through with this many drivers. I work night shift, so I will take that part of the drive. DD18 is an experienced highway and city driver so she will be fine. DD16 only has her permit now but will be licensed by the time we go. She has had plenty of highway experience already but minimal city driving. She'll have some by the trip though. And I trust DD's BF to drive my car. He's probably a better driver than my own kids!

We will be driving from western PA and likely taking 81 / 77 / 95. We've never driven down before, always flew but I wanted my kids to have the experience of driving at least once. I think it gives a better perspective of distances and you get to see the countryside.

Just wanted to join in the thread with people who have already done this, to convince myself I'm not crazy.

On our first road trip we found out that my then 4 yo got car sick. We quickly found out that it happened when he was watching movies on DVD player.
So bring some bags w you just in case, and lots of cleaning wipes.
Sounds like a great b -day surprise. Where are you coming from?

No, but it is a Station Wagon! I'm pretty careful especially through Ohio.

Guessing CTSV wagon, or S6

I have been doing the drive from st louis for over 20 years now. In all kinds of cars. The only place that I wont speed is the 450 miles that is the state of georgia on I75.

When you hit the florida line, if you are not going 90, you get ran over.

and it don't matter how fast your driving in florida, there is still someone passing you. :rotfl2:

my wife laughs, speed limit is 70, im around 80 - 82 if I got a runner.
I will say to my wife "ok, im doing 82" and she waits and someone will come flying by me in the left lane like im standing still. :lmao:

its hard for us northerners to drive the speed limit on those flat, wide , no pot hole interstates in the south. :lmao:

With manual trans. I'm going to have to get a set of all-seasons for it as I need to get through whatever lies between Michigan and Florida in November.

I hear you. We got it so we could do more road trips. But now I'm like "That means I have to leave it in strange parking lots. Overnight. OUTSIDE!!!"

the resort parking lots (not valet) are in most cases huge and you can find a spot wider or at the end or by an island. I also look for a non rental, not beat up car to park next to. my wife shakes her head at me but that is why my car don't look like it went thru a hammer mill.

Not sure what route you'll take into Chattanooga, but we come through Nashville and Chattanooga is where it flips to Eastern time. We almost missed getting I
into the aquarium one time because they close fairly early and we made the mistake of thinking it was Central time there. We really enjoy it, still need to do the one in Atlanta.

Interesting license plate. Story?

yes, I am a car guy. Just not at the level anymore. props to you for driving the car and not having a garage queen.

I had a new c4 corvette back in the 90's and my buddies said I put too many miles on too fast. I bought the car to enjoy, and enjoy I did.

Now a days, I roll a '13 SHO and the wife has a "14 explorer Sport. Both have been tweaked with some go fast parts making them 400+hp cars.

Just enough to have fun, but still be drivable. Getting ready to take the Ex Sport from ST. Louis to Disney in 3 weeks. 1008 miles door to door.

Good times.

The popular I-81 was closed for about 15 miles (around mm 89-104 or so) today because of ice, according to one TV report!

All the best to the PA and NY drivers who utilize this interstate on the way to WDW. :thumbsup2
