We are leaving northwest Indiana as soon as we finish loading the car. Heading down 65 to Kentucky for the night We enjoy the journey as well as the destination but hoping for decent roads today and for the rest of our journey to port Canaveral. Safe Journeys to all! Planes are halted (Southwest our typical choice) until noon at Midway because of backup from yesterday. Glad we are driving!

Thats a long time to be sitting there like that. Was there an accident on the road or something? That happened to me and a friend about a year ago. We hit traffic at like 2am and sat there forever!

There was an accident near Jacksonville. I really was surprised by all the traffic though. Once we got past Jacksonville there was still a ton of traffic- stop and go all the way to our resort!

Construction on 75 in Georgia just before Vienna exit 113 to 104 traffic down to two lanes luckily traffic was light
Cheapest gas in Georgia $3.18
Traffic going south on 75 continues to be low all the way thru Florida cheapest gas in Florida $3.33
Check in was fast room was ready off to the magic kingdom with a warm jacket only a high of 50 today but it sure beats 4 days of snow

Taking 57 to 24 to 75 January 3 2014
Left Chicago at 7 am we decided to take 57 verses 65 because of the lake affect snow the traffic was slow moving at 50 miles per hr mainly because of visibility until Kankakee than we were moving steady at 65 miles per hr very light traffic the sun was shining by the time we hit Effingham we seen four cars and a semi a ditch due to ice no salt on roads brought speeds down to 45 miles per hour with one lane open until exit 166 by exit 150 everything was smooth sailing until Salem cones were up for construction one lane open until just before exit 103 cheapest gas was $3.19 in Illinois gas up before you leave Illinois gas in Kentucky is $3.39 at the state line
The bridges entering Kentucky were down to one lane just until the second bridge was crossed
Cheapest gas price in Kentucky was $3.19
Tennessee expecting to break a 18 year record with a cold front on Sunday with 3 inches of snow expected in Nashville
Cheapest gas price in Tennessee was $3.02
Stopping in dalton ga for the night it's pretty cold here too

2nd bridge? You didn't take 57 all the way down to the Wickliffe/Cairo crossing, did you?

Minus two degrees below zero at the Jersey Shore! :scared1:

We wish we were on the road to WDW. Tomorrow, the weather in Lake Buena Vista is supposed to reach 81-degrees.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Not sure I meant the two bridges you cross as you enter the state of Kentucky

If you crossed on I24 into Paducah, there's just one bridge (crosses the Ohio). If you stayed on 57 all the way into Missouri, you would cross 2 bridges one right after the other - first the Mississippi, and then as soon as you get off that one, you jump on a second bridge to cross the Ohio. And then you would take back roads about 20 miles into Paducah. If you did the latter, you can chop off some time on the way home by staying on 24 until it ends about an hour South of Mt Vernon, IL.

We took 57 thanks for the help we will try it on the way home

well, my favorite cast member is home!!!! we picked her up at philly international this morning. she was all bundled up!!! :rotfl: thank you all for your support. she had a great time and met a lot of great people from all over the world. she did learn one thing, people are nuts!!!!! working for the mouse was great but there are some people who are very interesting. Disney cast members are a special group of people and I have a new respect for everyone of them. I never realized what they put up with.
today was Bs first flight. she said it was okay but she would rather drive!!!! THATS MY GIRL!!!!! she said what a pain in the butt! start the day magical express dropped them off two hours before there flight. the pre check in didn't work so they had to wait in line to check in. if it wasn't for a nice lady ahead of them, they would have missed there flight. got on the plane and the guy next to her was snoring, drooling and sniffling the entire flight. she said she would fly again but would rather drive. the two hour flight (what all the flyers talk about) starts out at 4:30 am. get ready and get your stuff to bell service. on the bus, the plane, ride home total time was 10 hours from door to door. I can drive it in 15. so that's it. thanks again!!!!!

Hello fellow road travelers! We are driving down to Disney in April, this will be our second trip driving down. My DH works nights (sleeps days) so this helps us on the drive down, he will sleep all day, I will pack, kids will be in school and then we head out around 6pm and he drives through the night. We will take 95 down since we know the route very well as I have family in Maryland and we drive there a few times a year. My concern is this, last year we took a Disney cruse which got us back into port on Sunday. Unfortunately, we didn't do a lot of research (our research consisted of looking at this site the day before we left) for the drive home and we were somewhere in the Carolina's when we decided (VERY last minute, literally) to take "the truckers route". We got a little lost because we couldn't remember what exactly the route was even though I had it written down and we had a map. Anyway...to make this long story short, we cut across I think somewhere in SC, went through VA up near Roanoke and over to CT, and since there was no traffic (we were driving home Sunday) we went straight through, which was rough, I was going on almost 24 hours with no sleep! Well this year our ship doesn't get in until Monday (we will probably be on the road by 8am) and my DH doesn't want to take the other route because it didn't seem any faster/easier. I don't want to drive 95 the whole way home because it will be all traffic. Has anyone ever driven north along 95 on a weekday? I am not as concerned from Florida up until about MD, we are definitely going to stay overnight somewhere, it is the MD north that I am concerned about. Going through PA, NJ, CT, MA is where the worst of the Tuesday traffic will be. Any suggestions??

THANKS!!!

Hey!! This will be our second time driving down but its been quite awhile since then. Im hoping you guys could help me out a bit with suggestions.

We will be leaving on a Friday night after DH gets out of work...so really Saturday around 1am. It will be two of us driving and my DD who's 1. I am hoping she will sleep most of the night making the first half of the drive a bit easier.

Coming back is my concern...Im thinking of leaving on Saturday...just not sure what would be best time to leave WDW. It will be three of us driving back since by other DD will be driving back with us.

We plan on driving straight through both times...just stopping for gas, food, & diaper changes lol.

What time is best to leave WDW and avoid the traffic up by DC?? We are planning on 95 both ways just because it seems easier....

Please help...I am a lil nervous about making the drive during the winter and with a baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That would make for a really aggravating drive.

Glad you made it home okay and sorry you are sick. Is it a cold or stomach?? I have a bad cold maybe we picked it up at Fort Wilderness.

Welcome back to the real world Briana!!

hey Sharon!!!!! now that B is home and has unpacked and put away everyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyything she has bought and collected the last eight months of her life that we piled up for her, she has something for you!! if you would pm me an address that you would like me to send this to and I will get them out for you later this week. I would keep them but they don't look good on me. :lmao: let me know!!!!! :thumbsup2

Hey everyone! I pop in here every so often and check things out. This will be our third time making the drive from Buffalo to Disney. The route is pretty well set and is the usual one that you would expect, but now I have a question. We usually travel in early October so we miss any snow. I am not worried much about the flat drives with snow because well I am from Buffalo, but what about the mountains and hills of West Virginia? Should we find an alternate route or will we be ok? We leave on Jan. 24th if that helps! Thanks!

I would keep an eye on the weather and have a shovel. blankets etc.. in the car. we were just down and in the winter months, I tend to stay along the coast as long as I can.( i81/i66/17/i95) I stay out of the mountains as much as I can. over the years have gotten snow, ice, wind, fog in the mountains and just choose to stay away. I also watch the weather and will change my travel days if I have to. we got lucky this past trip, sunny on the way down and sunny on the way home missing storms. we leave home and wdw at 1-2am which gives us a real good head start and miss a lot of traffic.

I was just gonna ask this since I'm heading down on the 15th.

the 15th is in the middle of the week. 17 on a Saturday can get backed up but you will be ok mid week. there are some schools and local traffic but we hit it on a Friday around 4pm and there was nothing. even i95 wasn't bad. I thought for sure we would be crawling but we stayed outside of Richmond and left Saturday morning at 1am to finish the drive.

Sounds good thanks. Plan is to leave NEPA at 1am and if the weather cooperates drive straight thru. Its been about 3 years since I did the 17 route but I'm worried about the mountains and ice.
