"For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only!" (IV)

We are attempting our first Disney road trip in December. A little over a 1000 miles one way from Texas to Disney World!

For the ride there I'm planning on driving straight through during the night so the trip with three boys in the back will hopefully be a restless and non-complaining one. lol.

my plan is to wake them up in Gainsville FL for a Krispy Kreme donut breakfast before the last few hours of the trip to Disney.

Adding to our I-95/I-4 list: the Domino Sugar plant in Baltimore, the model log cabin homes, the log cabin antique store, passing important historical/film locations, the LPGA overpass, fruit stand billboards, the Jacksonville and Orlando skylines, and the first I-4 Disney road sign.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Yeah, the LPGA Overpass is cool -- makes me want to go visit! Two of my other favorites are "local" to my unpopular route: Driving across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel late at night and having no one in front or back as far as I can see...and then after trekking across the "bottom" of Virginia on Rt. 58, seeing the entrance to I-95 at Emporia, which seems to appear out of thin air. Of course, I have pictures of neither of these things as my dh is always doing his job at that time, which is snoozing like a mad-man! :thumbsup2

I drove down from central CT with my cousin on Oct 6th and we drove back home arriving yesterday (Oct 13th). I leave again on Oct 30th with my daughter, son-in-law and grandson (this time driving straight thru) for vacation thru Nov 11th!! My daughter thinks I'm crazy that I was willing to do 2 trips in such a short period of time but that's what great about retirement!

Little Pee-Dee River, the construction equipment place that sets up cool vignettes on their front lawn, South of the Border when it's dark so it looks creepy, the first palm tree. We have little "Yay" moments.

all good points! :thumbsup2

there is a case dealer on i95 that always has a back hoe or a dump truck sitting out on an island in front of there building. its on the north bound side. get a kick out of that every time.

I'll do a few from I-75/Florida Turnpike....Jellico Mountain, Atlanta skyline, Disney signs as far north as Atlanta, the Macon "Bypass to Florida," the first Spanish moss, the Florida Welcome Station, getting on the Turnpike.

And one that I miss. The first Florida exit off I-75, there used to be a gas station (I think it was Texaco) in red and white stripes. I think it was called 'Candyland," or something like it. The gas station is either gone, or it was painted over.

You too. Don't you leave this week?

Keep the parks warm (but not hot) for us. We'll be right behind you. :wave2:

:thumbsup2 never seen them but I bet there just as cool. :thumbsup2

your under two weeks today!! :worship:

BC, wouldn't this break crusingkat's record for shortest period between trips? (17 days)

How much extra traffic would there be Thanksgiving night/BLACKFRIDAY? I just realized this might make things a little worse for us. We plan on driving through the night from Binghamton, NY area. Leaving after Thanksgiving dinner. Looking to leave by 6 hopefully, 7 at the latest.

Hopefully we will have another mild winter like last year. I am over at my sister's right now in SW MI, she lives in Stevensville and my mom lives in St. Joe. We went 2 years ago in Feb but flew, I didn't want to chance the weather.
Good Luck with the drive coming up and have fun. We live in St. Joe but between trips to Meijer and Culver's:) we spend a fair amount of time in Stevensville.

We left on thanksgiving night last year around 7pm. The first few hours were a little stressful with holiday traffic, but it got better. I would do it again.

Actually, I think highway traffic should be very light! There will be local black friday traffic but not long distance highway traffic.

I always wanted to drive it myself. its a lot different driving by yourself then driving the entire way with a passenger. I can do it, just wondered if I could do it straight thru?

anyone else bragging???? :rotfl:

bc, you can toss your hat in!!

That's what worries me driving it alone and not making it straight thru, I do all the driving but I have a passenger to annoy lol

Solo driver the previous 29 round-trip drives. And that same driver will be initiating another WDW round-trip drive late Thursday night.

Oh, no hat to toss in...just a Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier coonskin cap! ;)

Prices for regular down another two cents to $3.21 (another gas station nearby is down to $3.19).

All the best. :thumbsup2

Northeast NJ, gas is ranging from $2.96 to $3.19. Most around $3.15

Wow, gas below $3! The best I saw was 3.07 and that was a cash price only. Most are 3.15-3.17. Keep on dropping!
